My extremely slow start to being a vegan

Thanks to everyone who posted to my other topics!!

So after long thought and consideration, I really do believe my motivation to becoming was more because of weight loss than love of animals.

i do care about animals! So I'm sticking with being a vegetarian, and I will take vegan choices when I have the opportunity ( I just purchased almond breeze, I hardly eat cheese, and I'm cutting down on eggs)

But also, I have  a lot of unhealthy eating habits (slight ED) and being a Vegan would not be a helpful thing for me right now. Basically, I'm a vegetarian who eats honey, and products that contain milk and eggs. I'm also living at home, which makes it hard when I can not really afford to constantly go out and buy my own bread that does not contain honey when there is whole wheat bread home that my mom bought lol

But since I do love animals, I'm making efforts to try to cut down my animal product consumption! Hopefully, when I'm healthier and living on my own, i can make a good healthy vegan lifestyle.

any little bit of effort helps! just cutting down on animal products with helps. (almond breeze is delicious!)

if being a full vegan will bring back ED tendencies, then just stick with what you are doing!

good luck!

I think this has a potential for trouble.

Try using agave nectar instead of honey.  You can buy it in many grocery stores and for sure in health food stores.  It has a similar taste (good!) and is 60 calories per tbsp.  Also, it won't cause a spike in your blood sugar.

In baking, I use 1 tbsp. soy flour + 1 tbsp. water in place of eggs.  Great results, you won't taste the soy, and it's cheaper.  No cholesterol, either.  You can use this in most recipes where it calls for eggs.  For recipes like quiches, etc., you can use tofu.  Look up recipes on the 'net for seasonings, etc.

There is a cheese substitute branded 'Follow Your Heart' that has EXCELLENT tasting 'cheeses' in many flavors.  I'd recommend them when you need something cheesy.

Hope that helps you in your quest.

I went from a 27-year O/L vegetarian to vegan 3 yrs. ago, and have never looked back.

sounds like you are making a healthy choice for yourself. i'm thinking about the same kind of thing right now as well. i was anorexic and bulimic for many years so restricting food groups completely is clearly not a good choice for me. however, i'm just going to look at it as adding in more vegan foods WITHOUT restricting a food that i really want to have. i feel more relaxed about it that way. best of luck!
