Face or Body? Which would you choose?

Quote  |  Reply

Lets say you're healthy and fine, at an okay BMI (mid to upper range of your healthy weight), but you still have some cellulite that bugs you, maybe even a little muffin top going on, but at this weight, your face is looking its best.

If you were to lose more fat you'd have an amazing and fit looking bikini body, but then your face would start to look gaunt, less beautiful, older even, compared to if you were 10 pounds heavier.

Would you choose to have an average body with a great face, or a great body with a face that doesn't look its best? Or would you go for something inbetween?

Hi! It's a toughie, but I would choose the face!

the muffin-top and legs could potentially be improved with exercise, rather than weightloss.

Plus, eveyone sees your face, if you dress well, very feww people would notice the little bits that needs tightening. Just think of all those pictures!

growantree, I agree with you...I'd try to see how much more I can lose before my face starts to get gaunt (I actually love having chubby cheeks lol), and I'd stop as soon as it starts to show...I have a few friends who are faced with this dilemma...most of them very pear shaped, some slightly overweight, others at a good BMI already...they can't seem to lose the extra 'hip-piness' without sacrificing their face getting gaunt.

FACE!   You can dress to cover body flaws.

Reminds me of a situation -some years ago I had just moved to Florida. I was in line at a grocery store behind a woman dressed in short shorts, halter top(couldn't see her face) who had a great body! and beautiful long, blonde, wavy hair.  I was starting to feel jealous...when she turned around..I almost dropped my teeth! her face was OLD and wrinkled! What a shock!

As you get older, that little bit of padding in your face will be welcomed.

When my mum started losing weight she said she didn't want to lose too much for that precise reason. And I absolutely agree with her. Once you hit a certain age your face needs a bit of plumpness to remain looking youthful. And you can't have it all (even Madonna looks awful without all the help, like a piece of grizzle!).

And remember, guys won't be looking at your hips or slight muffin top when they first speak to you, they'll be looking at your face, and I know they'd rather tolerate a gorgeous bird on their arm with a little more curvature than an old, scrawny hag!

That's true...although I do see it on young women in their twenties too, my sister and mom are like that, they have delicate, oval faces and actually look beautiful when they're heavier, and their faces start too look skinny when they lose weight...I don't get gaunt though I have enough fat on my face to last me awhile lol....I prefer my face fuller for some reason...when I lose weight, my cheekbones and jawline take on a sharper, more angular look, it's supposed to be a stronger, more sophisticated kind of look I suppose...but then people start comparing me to sandra bullock (I do think she's gorgeous though)...and that's when I'd really start missing my chubby cheeks, they've sorta been a trademark of mine....hehe....

There's a lady at my gym who's like that too!! I swear she has the best body in our gym, totally cellulite free, tight body etc...but her face is all gaunt and wrinkled...no idea how old she is...her face and body are about 20-30 decades apart from each other, but dammn I admire how dedicated she is with her fitness program.

I would definitely prefer the face...the most beautiful person I know is probably "softer" than I am, but the way she dresses, you could never tell.  And her face is so so stunning, I would way rather look like her than the girl with the amazing body but average face.

But for me, I'm quite glad my cheeks have slimmed down...my face is naturally round, so when I had the added weight on my cheeks, I looked like a chipmunk, and also about two years younger...not a good thing when you're only eighteen!

I'd also choose the face, since I much prefer the youthful look. Besides I don't dress provocatively, so noone but my bf would ever see my body, and he already likes it.

This actually scares the crap out of me.  I'm 32 and I have another 32 pounds to lose (I'm down 8), and I'm not infrequently mistaken for a teenager.  I have a fairly round face, and so far I'm happy with the weight I've lost in my face.  The double chin is nearly gone.  But I have this fear that once all the extra fat is gone from my face, I'll start to look my age, and will therefore never look like I'm in my twenties.  Aside from a brief period when I was 17-18 after being ill, I have never been at a healthy weight, and I sometimes wonder if the reason I look so much younger than I am is because of the fat in my face.  It's not enough of a reason to stop losing weight, but it's depressing to think about.  Guess I'll just have to cross my fingers.

This is a tough question, especially if the numbers on the scale drive your motivation. I have lost a lot of weight recently, and it definitely shows in my face, although I'm still not happy with the way my body looks or the way my clothes fit. In fact, my cousin told me recently that she thought my face looked better when I weighed a little more. But since we can't spot-reduce, we cna't gain 5lbs and tell it where we want it to go.

your question reminded me with my post a year ago.

If it's just between pretty face/10 pounds extra and not-so-pretty-face/hot body, then i'd rather pretty face and an extra 10 pounds

If it was between morbidly obese/pretty face and hot body/not-so-pretty face...I'll go with that

according to some survey I saw somewhere (yes, i sound super reliable, haha)..but it said that most men prefered a hot body/butter-face to cute face/ok body..

I was a little surprised sicne all guys pretend to first notice women's eyes or smile or wtv... pssh!

Face because that is the first thing men look at to see weither it attracts them.

goodness...I'd think the above would be true for one night stands, or hormonally charged male teens. Most men do tell me they'd prefer a pretty face then a hot body in a relationship, since they'll be looking at her face all the time...and having a not-so-great body can always be fixed with dim lighting while making love, anyone can look beautiful by candlelight lol, it's romantic too.

lol...I know what you mean...I look more my age (twenties) when I start losing weight, but when I'm a little heavier I get asked which high school I go to, and I enjoy getting suprised looks when I tell them I'm 24...I'll miss that alot. Don't worry about about your face! I'm sure you'll look just fine :) if you're really worried about looking too different on your face, then stay in the mid-higher range of your healthy BMI.

cool...some pretty interesting responses in there...but I bet you stilll look good even after losing weight :) all those veges and fruits ppl tend to consume while dieting do wonders for skin.

I once voiced concerns about my weight to an Egyptian guy-friend of mine, and he said, "We have a saying, that 'all women look the same in the dark.'"

I had to laugh.  I've been much more accepting of my body, no matter what stage it's at, ever since.

my best friend has always been scrawny (5`8, 120) and gorgeous: fine features, big violet elizabeth-taylor eyes, dark hair (not a grey in sight), alabaster skin, perfect, white teeth, total audrey-hepburn body.  we`re both 41 now, though, and it`s at the point where the low weight is aging her faster than necessary.  makes me sad.

but i know that for her, 130 feels like 150 does on me.  i dunno that it`s so easy to retrain ourselves to accept a different body.

I'd rather have a nice face and a bit of chub on my body.

But since my face is below average no matter WHAT weight I'm at, I'll take being thin instead. But if I thought a little fat would improve my face, I'd go that route.

I havent yet achieve my ripped abs yet but my face is already gaunt. I need to re-evaluating things because I do like people with fuller face.
