Facebook Connect available on Calorie Count

We are excited to announce that we just launched Facebook Connect on our site! We also included very strong privacy controls, and you have to opt in in order to use this product. Here is a quick overview of the new features:

- You can now find out if any of your Facebook friends are also Calorie Count members (you can also opt out of that if you want to use other features but don't want your Facebook friends to find you here).

- You can export a variety of your actions on Calorie Count over to Facebook. For example, you can share your journal, forum posts, blog comments, groups that you joined, and much more. If you start using this feature, we make sure to show you a preview of everything that we'll export, and ask for your approval each and every time.

- We also released a new Friends page (one of the subnav tabs under the Community tab), that will make it easy to manage your existing friends on Calorie Count and the new ones from Facebook.

- You can also invite your Facebook friends to join our site, import your Facebook picture, bio, and much more.

Get started by simply accepting the invitation on your My Account page, and let us know if there's anything that we can improve!

Igor...when I did this link up and then clicked on my journal entry from Facebook, I could then open up all the other entries...will everyone on Facebook be able to do the same?  If so...how do you DELINK??!!

Your private journal posts will stay private and noone will be able to see them (unless you hand-select people from your friends list and give them special permissions).

Those journal posts that you choose to make public will be accessible by Calorie Count users (which has always been the case) and your Facebook friends (the latter is only the case if all of these conditions apply: 1.) you opt-into Facebook Connect, then 2.) leave the checkbox checked to export to Facebook while publishing your post, and finally, 3.) check our preview of the exported item and confirm that you also want to post it on Facebook).

So, to answer your question, the privacy of your posts is not compromised. However, unlinking your accounts is also very easy and can be done on your Account Settings page (My Account/Account Settings).

Thank you Igor!  In that case, it's a very cool function!

Thanks Igor!  Very cool!

hasn't it already been on facebook for a very long time?

We have had a Facebook fan page for a while (which we just recently revamped and started using daily), but the Facebook Connect functionality is a new tool that allows you to interact with Facebook from within Calorie Count.

Ok.  I'm going to try the facebook connection.  I was worried about privacy issues.  I'll try it for a few days and ask my daughter for feedback (she got me started on CC and has an account but isn't active).

Have you thought of putting your calorie count site into Japanese?  I live in Japan, and Japanese people are ballooning in weight these days.

Thanks for creating this site.  It has changed my perceptions of life in wonderful weighs (oops ways).
