Am I the only one on the planet?

I just might be.

I do not have it and I have no interest in getting one.

No more facebook for me once my in laws started spying on me!

I have myspace, but none of my in laws know how to use it and I do not have a single photo or even mention them on that page. So it wouldnt even matter.

Did you friend them?  My most satisfying moment on Facebook was rejecting my mother-in-laws friend request.  It was great.   I let her request sit for a month too before rejecting it.  Laughing

Well no you aren't the only person on the planet not participating on Facebook, but you are missing out on some laughs.  I love to see the stupid crap that some of my friends post up :)

A mild form of entertainment is my take on Facebook, someplace I nip onto from time to time to see what's up.

I don't have it either.  But then, I am old....

Pssst. I also don't twitter.

 ditto...nor do I have/had my space...

no interest either

I like young people who don't have facebook/whatever. It makes me feel like I ain't the only person who has their head screwed on straight :)

People who use Facebook don't have their heads screwed on straight?

I'm confused. I didn't realized staying in touch with friends/family who don't live near you and being able to see pictures of important things going on in their lives was crazy....

It's all good if you don't feel the need to join, but for people who live away from home it's awesome. Has absolutely nothing to do with the "bandwagon".

I agree. Speaking as someone that's lived thousands of miles away from my family/friends. ( On several occasions. ) It made keeping in touch and updated on important things easier. Plus: After moving all of my new friends had a way to stay in touch too. It broadens your network of real life friends. Friends/Family: I may've otherwise would've grown distant from. Or: Completely lost contact.

I think kids who spend a large chunk of their time trying to make themselves appear to have an awesomely wild social life are pretty lame, yeah. I understand that it is supposed to be a social networking tool, but for the younger generation it is mostly a tool to broadcast their silly little calendar plans and pictures of them with beer bottles in their hands. It definitely is a trend...hence "jumping on the bandwagon."

Kids mostly aren't using it to keep in touch with family/friends. They are using it as a self-marketing medium. I don't understand how you think I'm the one who is crazy for not wanting to waste time on the computer and showing the world every detail of my personal life.
Sorry you people feel the need to be so closely involved in peoples' lives.

And anyway, isn't this a healthy living website? Isn't sitting in front of a computer all day considered unhealthy? Generally, people get sucked into Facebook, etc. and waste lots of their time there.

I spend a majority of my day sitting in front of my computer and I'm currently the healthiest I've been in my life.  :P

Doesn't really matter what you do with your downtime activity wise, what matters is that you spend some time up and exercising.  If you exercise 5 days a week it doesn't matter a squat diddly if you spent 4 hours a day on facebook.  Not that I do, just saying.  :P

yes to facebook - I like to keep up on photos my kids and friends post.

yes to myspace - originally to check up on my kids when they were teens but now to check in with my sis once in a while.

no to twitter - seems a bit self-centered to assume anyone gives a damn what I might be doing at 15 minute intervals throughout the day. :)

Everybody should give a damn about what I'm doing, I'm awesome.  >:O

Oh and about twitter: http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2008/4/23/

I have a FB but not the others. I think FB is great for keeping up with friends and family who are long distance. And for me that's a lot of people as I live very far away from where I grew up, I have one brother in Argentina, and the rest of my family is spread out all over the country. It's also been cool for re-connecting with people I haven't talked to in a long time. And a lot of my co-workers who I've never met in person, it's neat to "meet" them on FB and get a better feel for what their personalities are like, see their photos, etc. (I work for a large company that's spread out over the US and much of the company is work at home).

No Facebook, myspace or twitter.  I have better things to do!

I don't Facebook, Myspace, or Youtube.  Oh and of course no "twittering".  I actually live out in what I like to call "reality".  Seriously, I hate all those sites-- it's just egos gone wild.

That's a generalization. That is not the only stereotypical assumption fed the masses either. There are a lot of people on both sides of the spectrum in all actuality. Anything can be taken to an unhealthy extreme that's the reality. A healthy lifestyle doesn't void all things with negative potential: Electronic games/computers/the internet/cell phones/liquor/sweets/carbs/tv-movies/ etc. There is a healthy way to go about enjoying all of the above.

There are also options to keep your personal page hidden. As well as hide certain personal information on the page from friends. There is even a way to keep your blogs private. That way people have to be given access to view things. Even with access they still may not be able to view every detail. Some parents monitior their childrens accounts/settings too. In addition to having time caps on their use of certain things.

btw:nbrugger never claimed/said you or anyone else was crazy. They were simply stating their view that it's not crazy to keep in touch with friends/family. They said they like to share photos with their irl  friends/family. They understand that some other people feel the same. The things you see as silly may not be to someone else and their friends/family. They could mark very important/meaningful things in their life. It doesn't take over their life to view important photos of speical events, etc. People can view photos etc and move on with the rest of their day. Crazy was suggested in your post above marked with italics. Not nbruggers. They were only trying to rationalize a concept with you. That's all. It's a shame that was a waste of time. :)

I didn't realize that people have such ... strong... opinions about facebook, myspace, etc users.   Wow.

I understand that I was making a general stereotypical assumption because that is the group I personally am talking about. I am not talking about the people who use it as a convenient way to keep in touch with family across the country. I'm talking about the 16 year old kids who use it to display their slightly inappropriate pictues and create a false image of themselves.

You can explain away all the options of privacy on the website. I still have no interest in it and that is all my post was stating.

Right. That could have been your response to nbrugger. That would've been far more productive than the melodramatic approach.

"I don't understand how you think I'm the one who is crazy for not wanting to waste time on the computer and showing the world every detail of my personal life. Sorry you people feel the need to be so closely involved in peoples' lives.

The options weren't listed to give you any interest. They were given so you could understand the concept. The concept that some people use it differently as suggested. That's all. The only thing nbrugger was saying is that they/others aren't crazy for using it. Period.  As you'd implied unintentionally or otherwise. You just went off on a side tangent taking offense. As if people were calling you crazy, Lol. In reality that was never implied. You simply weren't clear on your detailed stance. It's ironic/hilarious you took such offense, imo Since you like to make the implication on others.

You can follow businesses, celebrities, etc. I follow Michael Ian Black. His updates are hilarious. Also, The Onion. I might also have some Star Trek people on there I dunno. Rainn Wilson just posts about his kids and stuff. I thought he'd be more entertaining.

I also have my son on my Facebook friend's list MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Ha! The Onion would be pretty funny.

I remember you! Your hair cut and color looks awesome on you! WOW! You really look like Kristin Cavallari from the MTV show Laguna Beach! Nice to see you again!
