FAGE 0% Recipes, Anyone?

Quote  |  Reply

So I bought some of this and well, the taste is a bit too sour for my liking, I mean I could force myself to eat it but was wondering if anyone had any good recipes using it, (other than just with fruit, which i've tried, not bad, but could be better...) any way, all recipes are welcome, main course, to snacks, to desserts!~ Ready set Go!

I use it in stead of sour cream. It goes well as a sauce for fish burritos with some dijorn mustard, and wasabi. I also make the sauce for my hamburgers: Fage 0, dijorn mustard, and adobo sauce.

UD

Greek tzatziki sauce  (there are many recipe variation for this)

All ingredients are to taste

Greek style yogurt
chopped, peeled, seeded cucumber
finely chopped onion or scallion
finely minced garlic
minced fresh parsley
minced fresh mint
lemon juice
oregano
salt & pepper

Mix well and refrigerate for an hour before serving.  Use as a topping or dressing for salads or with grilled meats.

I love to make smoothies with it.

1/2 cup Fage, 1/2 cup skim milk and one cup frozen berries or other frozen fruit.  I also toss in a packet of splenda. Blend and enjoy.

You can also dump it into some cheese cloth and suspend over a jar or bowl and put in the fridge.  This drains all the liquid out and leaves you with a healthy, lowfat spread.  Add whatever herbs and spices that you like for a savory spread, or add some sweetener and a flavoring such as almond, cherry, etc. for your english muffins.  Fage is great for this because you need a yogurt that is not made with gelatin to make a successful spread.

i would suggest opting for the 2% over 0%. I personally think the 0% is way tangier and not as creamy as the 2%, and the difference in calories is miniscule. 1 cup of 2% has 130 calories in it i believe, and its WAY better!!!

what I do is generally spoon in some fruit preserves in the yogurt, with some splenda.

i just tried the organic cherry preserves from trader joes last night and its safe to say that was THE MOST amazing thing i'd ever had. way better tasting than the german chocolate birthday cake sitting in my microwave. hahaha :)

Fage is also really good with honey =]

what the heck if FAGE? like a yogurt or something? ive never seen it

Fage is a brand of Greek yogurt.

I like to mix mine with 2-3 Tbsp of some kind of fruit preserves.  Look for the kind that has no pectin--it will mix better (the pectin is what causes it to gel up) and the flavor will be more intense, because the thickening comes almost entirely from cooking the preserves long enough to remove most of the water.  Honey or maple syrup work well, too, but make sure not to add too much.

In the summertime, I like Fage with grilled fruit.  Pineapple and strawberries (on a skewer) can be grilled directly.  Stone fruits (peaches, nectarines) are particularly good when coated in a mixture of brown sugar and lemon before grilling.

I also like to use Fage as a marinade for fish or meat.  There are lots of ways you can do this--experiment!  One nice mixture is Fage plus mustard--I like Dijon, but you can use what tastes best to you.  I mix half mustard and half yogurt, coat a peice of salmon in the mixture, and bake.  Serve with lots of the yogurt-mustard mixture, as a sauce.  Indian spices might also be nice for faux tandoori chicken or fish.

Fage yogurt also works well as a dip for veggies or chips.  Buy or make one of those little spice packets that you're supposed to mix with sour cream and/or mayonnaise, and mix it in with the yogurt instead.

I just tried the 0% for the first time and it is so awesome! I did not think it would be so creamy. I ate it with a banana and it was so filling that I forgot all about that cupcake I was craving! Amazing...I also recently tried another brand of Greek Yogurt called The Greek Gods and this one was even better I would venture to say. Slightly less creamy but tangy and wonderful. It might be more similar to what your used to...

Green Pea Soup with Yogurt
6 to 8 servings

1 leek, white part only, washed well and finely chopped
1/2 cup celery, finely chopped
1 Tbs butter
2 cups frozen peas, thawed
2 cups vegetable broth
Salt and pepper to taste
Plain Greek style yogurt to taste

Saute the leeks and celery in the butter.  Add the broth to the pot and bring to a boil.  Add the peas and cook for just a minutes.  Allow to cool off a little.  Put into a blender and puree until smooth and bright green.  Taste and season.  Heat and serve with a generous swirl of yogurt.

i eat my fage 0% with .25 cup Kashi GoLean cereal, fresh blueberries, sliced strawberries and a light drizzle of honey! yum!

i eat this almost daily.

the best fage recipes i have found are at theworldaccorgingtoeggface.com.  you won't be dissapointed

just to let you know that by using yogurt in baking, you kill the friendly bacteria that are in the yogurt. Unless you just care about the protein which is different.

I like to mix a tbsp of agave nectar (but you could use a couple of splenda sachets or whatever) and a tsp of vanilla extract to make a vanilla type greek yoghurt. particularly good with a spoonful of peanut butter, strawberries, and a crumbled digestive biscuit (graham cracker.) Cheesecake anyone? ;-) And for those of you counting calories - if you use the splenda option and minus the PB, 140 calories (add 60 for a tsp of PB)

Other than that I find it great mixed into oats just as they finish cooking - does wonders for texture and volume.

Actually 2% has 150 Calories. Still difference is not that big, but people here freak out about splenda packets having 4 Calories. Undecided

they have recipes on their website too

i knew it was somewhere along those lines but wasn't exactly sure. anyways that is considered "miniscule" to me since i dont really freak out/count my calories obsessively. nonetheless, they are both great but 2% is more satisfying to me :)
