Fage 0% Yogurt

Quote  |  Reply
so i was at trader joes today, and saw this fage yogurt that SO MANY ppl talk about. so i decided to try it. it said fage greek yogurt, and right next to it, i saw trader joes 0% greek yogurt. it was cheaper so i just bought that. i bought it, opened up, and tried some.

it tasted SOOOO bad, to me at least. it was tangy, sour, and just yucky. so i was wondering if this tastes the same as fage 0% greek yogurt. and if it does, why does everyone like it so much.?

It is pretty close in taste to the Fage brand. It is a unique taste and most people eat it with other things mixed in. I am an advocate of it (low sugar, high protein and filled with bacteria) and a lot of my friends weren't too thrilled initially. Adding things like berries, sweetners for some and cereal helped. Also, some people like eating it in place of high fat things like sour cream and adding it to recipes.
azndude110290,

I agree with  you completely.  The fage 0% is SOOO much better than the Trader Joe's stuff.  If you really want some good greek yogurt, spend the extra for the fage - don't bother with the TJ's brand.

trader joes brand is just as good as fage

you need to add sweetner to it, like honey

heres how i use it, put some in a bowl, about 3/4cup or so of the yogurt( a third of the trader joes container)

spread it out, drizzle about a tablespoon of honey all over it, more if you can deal with the calories

then add on top your berry of choice, i like strawberries or thawed frozen cherries

if the berries are really sour, like in the case of blackberries, i might add a little more honey

if you dont add sweetner of any type  , yes it will be just like sour cream, which i hate

but doing the greek yogurt in this   way i have eaten it every day since feb for lunch, and i still wont touch sour cream
I still think Fage is better. Its thicker and has more flavor without adding sweetener. Its thicker b/c they drain more of the liquid. Fage yogurt is only 5.3oz, while TJ's is the standard 6 oz.

haha.  it's definitely an acquired taste.  i haven't tried the trader joe's greek yogurt, but i have a fage 2% for snack every afternoon...i usually mix in 1/2 cup of kashi golean crunch, and sometimes strawberries, raspberries or blueberries.  it's freakin yummy!

once for a special treat, i tried it with cashews and chocolate chips.  i wouldn't recommend it...it was gross.

Plain yogurt, Fage in particular, grosses me out. I know it's supposed to be really good for you, but I'll take my fat-free, processed, over-sugared Yoplait any day. =P

If you don't have a problem with artificial sweeteners, a couple of packets of equal and a teaspoon of vanilla make Fage incredibly yummy (especially if you mix with a little Kashi cereal or All Bran for added texture).  It's little creamier than the TJ version, so I spend a little extra on it.

One tip I took from Hungry Girl:  a few table spoons of sugar free maple syrup (35 cals per quarter cup) - oh wow, was that good!  I'm thinking of adding some pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice to the syrup next time....  :-)

Fage 0% has more sugar than TJ Greek yogurt 0%.
Its just lactose, its not bad for you.

Do you normally eat plain yogurt?  Do you like, for instance Dannon plain?  If so, then you'd like Fage because it's so much creamier and thicker.  It doesn't separate like regular yogurt.

But if, like me, you don't eat plain yogurt, then you'll want to flavor your plain yogurt, as many have suggested.  I put in a little fruit spread which adds about 50 calories, or I add fruit and granola for breakfast.

I use Fage 0% in place of yogurt or sour cream in recipes.  I find that it's wonderful on a baked potato with some fresh chives added, instead of sour cream and chives.  It's great with chili and can be made into good, creamy salad dressing.

omg I was introduced to Greek yogurt this year at school and it is AMAZING. Yes-it can be odd on its own--my fav is spreading it on wheat toast with cinnomin and sugar---it almost actsl ike a cream cheese. It's deeeelish and very great for a breakfast w/ protein and fiber:)

It does have a taste that takes a little acquiring on it's own....however, there are some delicious mix ins that makes it taste very similar to a rich, creamy flavored yogurt.

I like to add some smuckers sugar free blackberry or strawberry jam...add 2Tbsp of that to one of the small containers of fage and you've got yourself a delicious, protein packed 100 calorie snack!  Also, you can add in 1/4 cup of smuckers sugar free syrup which makes for a very nice 100 calorie after-dinner snack :)

Try playing around with add-ins.  i would recommend finding sweet things other than just artificial sweeteners...that way you can at least get some nutrients out of it.  Fruit basically tends to be a very good add in

I definitely prefer Fage's. However I do find that fage's isn't like the yogurt you'd expect, it's closer to sour cream. I love sour cream flavor, and I think it goes great with berries and equal! :)
How does Greek yogurt compare in flavor with regular plain yogurt? Because I'm fine with the taste of plain yogurt, and I mix my cereal with it all the time. And the idea of a creamier, lower-sugar yogurt thrills me.

Greek yogurt is tangier, and less sweet tasting. It's like sour cream. I like it, and I would recommend it just for a try, see what you think. Just expect something closer to sour cream (rich and tangy, not sweet).

I don't really like it plain, but topped with Original Fiber One cereal it is delicious, and really healthy. I like to have 1/2 cup of fage with 1/2 cup of cereal, and some sort of fruit. It is also really filling

Chobani 0% is the best! 15 grams of PROTEIN!!! I add cinnamon and a little bit of sugar free maple syrup. Or splenda and cinnamon and nutmeg...( tastes like pumpkin pie spice) Also a tsp of fruit spread, with some sliced strawberries is great to!
