I keep failing at this! ARG!

I am usually a pretty positive person when it comes to changing my diet. If I slip up, I just regain my focus and forget about the past.

However, I keep on slipping up. It's starting to drive me insane. I do really well during the week and drop pounds, but when Friday rolls around, I completely start eating like I did back when I was gaining weight. So those three days of the weekend (I guess I consider Friday a weekend, which is odd) I gain back all that I lost during the week.

It's starting to make me mad. Part of me is wondering if I'm even able to diet because apparently I don't have very strong willpower. I just want this SO bad. I want to be confident and proud of who I am. :( Any advice?

Hi Nicktastic,

I know I can slip too especially when it comes to dieting on the weekends.  But what I found which has been really helpful is joining challenges on CC.  They hold me responsible since I know I have to weigh-in a certain time during the week.  Also, just seeing how other people (in the challenges) are doing with their diets can be motivating at times.  It puts you up for a little competition as well (if you're the competitive type).  So browse around the games and challenges forum to see if there are any that interest you.  Good luck and be strong! We can do this and we will!
That is super frustrating, I deal with sometimes over-indulging on weekend, too!

If I beat myself up about it too much though, I find I have a tendancy to indulge even more..."damage is done, migh as well have another...." sort of thoughts, which ultimately doesn't help anything and I just feel worse.

So what I try to do now is give myself permission to enjoy myself, but to really slow down and savor every smell, taste, texture of whatever my indulgence is at the time. That way I am much more likely to be satisfied with just a square or two instead of the whole bar of chocolate, for example.

We Can Do It!!
Yep, it's a problem I've had and the number one reason I've never really had much success with dieting. However, I sat myself down and had a long talk with myself. You'd be surprised what can happen when you make yourself listen to you! I made some rules for myself...one drink only on the weekend. No sugar. No white flour. No excuses on the weekend. I actually wrote the rules down in my journal. You know what? It's working.

I know it's not easy, but maybe it's time you had that talk with yourself. Otherwise, what you're doing is sheer torture and you'll never be happy with yourself.

And keep in mind...this won't last forever, but you will have to make some life changes.

Good luck!

I totally recommend what everyone is saying above. Another thing.. If you are not against zig zagging. Maybe one weekend day can be your max calorie day and there ya go.

Just a thought/idea.

I find that it's easier to maintain control when I stick to routine (the weekdays) the weekends, if I'm out of routine, it's so easy to slip.

it seems like me and you were seperated at birth. hmmmm, what should we do?......i've tried NOT BUYING THE FOOD!.... bu that does not work for me. or you could make a mental image of yourslef when you HAVE lost weight. ummmm, or you could give yourself little treats everyday. like........a chocolate biscuit, or, a little sweetie. something you should NEVER do is, tell youself that your gonna start on monday. cos, belive me.....YOU WON'T!.

SHAHEEN, (hope this helps)
Beleive me, I know what your going thru!!! My tip is to distract yourself. Go shopping. Doll yourself up. Come onto this website. Also, crystal light is wonderful stuff!! (It's a no cal no sugar no carb no fat low sodium drink mix.)

nothing will help except discipling and strong will other than that as bad as it sounds nthing else will do.

so gl

Well, you can't cut all the tasty stuff out forever. I suggest having it every so often, so you don't crave it. I think there's someone on here who says she has a free day every two weeks. I might start trying this.

I have been pretty strict with myself for a while now. I went home over the weekend though and so had all the good food you could imagine. Today I came back afraid to check the weight. Well really I weigh in the morning but sometimes I do at night too just to see what to expect. Anyway I've dropped a good 2 pounds over the weekend alone. Just saying, occasionally enjoying yourself won't hurt anything.

If it gets really bad though, think about how much you'd hate to be right back at where you started. This works for me since I never ever want to be above 250 again in my life.

i say every friday you indulge yourself, you follow it with a night at the club and dance those cals away. hit a techno club and you'll leave there 10 pounds lighter :)

I used to be pretty bad about weekends, but then I changed my mentality. Before it was like: sweet! it's the weekend, I get to sit back and relax. Now it's: sweet! it's the weekend! Now I've got all this extra time to work out, go for long walks, and prepare my own healthy meals!

If you look at it that way, it's much easier. Watch out for drinking though.. but I totally agree with bloodsugarsexmagik, dancing really helps burn those cals ;)

Niktastic,

&nb sp;  I love the name. We are creatures of habit. We do exact-ally what we  are trained to do.  Example, why do 2 year old's go around yelling "No" ?? It is because that is all they hear from us as parents. We  follow them around  yelling no at them. If you want to stop repeating your Friday to Sunday eat fest, take a chapter from AA. Change the people you hang with, places you go and things you do on the weekends. You associate them with the one thing we all love on this site.. FOOD !!! If you change  the elbow bends mouth flies open routine just one of these days it will make a difference. Win one day then go for two and give in the other day. The secret to winning is losing every now and then. It keeps us sharp. Keep us posted you can do it..

I used to be just like you. I had to change my mentality instead of seeing the weekend as a restrictive time where everything was off limits I changed that around, if i wanted to have ice cream I would but I would buy the fat free or low cal if I wanted to go out to eat I would but I would choose the restaurant and foods ahead of time and made the best possible choices same goes if I wanted to go out dancing and drinking i found out what drinks were low cal. One more thing I used to do was since I knew the afternoon or night part was going to be the worse I ate very little throughout the day and saved my calories for later that night. Hope this helps. I have been were you are at and at times it feels like you are stuck there but dont think that way look for alternatives to whatever is getting in the way of your weight loss and give a little extra effort
