Failures, an essential evil?

Quote  |  Reply

Hey, I just had a funny theory I shared with someone and thought I'd use it as an opportunity to make my first calorie count post.

I am currently trying to get in shape for the police physical fitness test. I start way back in March at 245, and am 194.5 as of last week. My ultimate goal is 185 (I'm 6'2'' and 21 year old male, in case anyone wondered.)

Anyway, I had a theory that in weight loss and in life my greatest failures always lead to my greatest successes. When ever I'd stonewall with my weight, I'd get really frustrated and totally cheat on my diet and skip a few days at the gym. But than I'd realize I just need to stick to it, and I'd come back with a raised bar and try harder than ever.  And every once in awhile, on a smaller scale, I would cheat in some way and then step it up the next day, and stay stepped up.

So in a sense, my own personal failures are what keep me going. I just thought I'd share that thought, and see if anyone else felt the same way.

that happens with me too.. i think i've gotten to a stage now though where i stay 'stepped up' for longer and have way less bad days so yeah turning this into a lifestyle is a process not an event. Failures do have a purpose, I totally agree!
Think more people need to have your positive attitude. So many people get derailed as they have one doughnut and therefore give up, saying that they are weak willed and destined to failure. I figure as long as your are eating healthier and getting more excerise than you were previously youve achieved something. It may take longer than hoped but dedication and focus will get you to your goal
I've had similar experiences. Part of it, for me, was coming to grips with the fact that slipping up once in a while isn't going to ruin the diet. Kind of relaxed me about the whole thing and put it into perspective.
