I was supply teaching in a classroom today and I fainted... not once... but twice.  Like in quick succession.  All I really remember is feeling disoriented, woozy, chest pain then being on the floor. 


I was so embarrassed.  I can't even tell you how much.  I'm in a school of people who I don't know and then this embarrassing thing happens.  The walk in clinic doctor said I probably fainted because I had cut my hand shortly before I fainted.  But I have had other injuries in the past much MUCH worse then a tiny tiny cut on my finger.  That doesn't make sense.


I've been exercising, eating 1600 calories a day which is more then enough.  There was no reason for this to happen.  That scares me.  I am freaked out thinking that something could have happened to the kids.  If the assistant wasn't there, I don't know what would have happened.

Maybe you should just go to the doctor.

To start with, have you seen your own doctor? There are a lot of things that will cause a person to faint. Some are serious, some are trivial. Besides hunger, we have:

Low blood pressure

Low blood sugar

An ear infection

Stress

Being tired

Pregnancy

Nutritional imbalance

Heart problem

.........the list goes on. You should be more worried about yourself than the kids, harsh as that might sound. Go see your doctor and give him the details of this episode, how you felt right beforehand, whether you were conscious while you were falling or had other symptoms at the same time. A roaring in the ears, seeing spots of light, cold feeling in the extremities....

Really, don't let someone just tell you it was a cut on your finger if you know that's not it. Get it checked out. Most likely there is some mundane explanation, but wouldn't you feel better not being scared like this, hon?

You might have low blood sugar... I have a friend who's the exact opposite of a diabetic, and if she doesn't eat like every two hours, she faints. You might also be low on iron... take a vitamin/mineral supplement every day.

Have you eaten enough protein?  You might be getting enough calories, but if you only carbs and/or sugar, but not enough good fat and protein, then that could be something that you will need to change.  But, I agree with everyone who posted to your question.  GO SEE A DOCTOR!  It could be something far more serious than you think and I don't want you to be doing something that if you fainted again, it could cause serious harm or death to you or someone else.

 

I looked at your profile showing your BMI.  It's perfectly normal at a healthy weight.  What on earth are you doing to yourself?  From your journal entries, it sounds like you're on a starvation diet.  I hope I'm wrong and just misinterpreting what you said!

Get to the doctor and get a complete physical with bloodwork.  This could be anything from dehydration to skipped hearbeats, or worse.  You need to find out why you fainted, the sooner the better.

It's possible you may have just locked your knees. I see this all the time in my line of work. People stand upright for several minutes talking about whatever with their knees locked. Then when they go to step forward and pass out.

If you know that's not the case then you may want to see you doc.

I cut down my calories to around 1300-1500 but I think I've OD-ed on the exercise.

I've had severe dizziness for 2 days and blacked out in the supermarket just now at lunch.

I think I am hypoglycemic, and thought back and realised it might have been triggered by an over the top 2 1/2 hour cycle and run on sunday without water :-S I am a silly girl.

So I am recharging on sugars and carbs massively all day today and will keep on eating steadily with no cause for guilt! My body evidently is crying out for it.  I also intend to make sure I get veggies and protein in my dinner.

I would say, definitely, if you continue to feel weak - up your calories to maintenance and beyond!  Look at your food log (if you keep one) and see where you could be missing out on? Possibly up the carbs too if you are being strict there.

Also, drink plenty of water and if you still feel woozy go to the doctors in the next couple of days, I intend to if mine persists.

Have you had episodes like this before?  I tend to get low blood sugar.

It could be any one of the illnesses mentioned by Cardamon-tea, but let's just you start to feel better after recharging with a good, healthy dose of food, water and rest : )



I used to black out almost daily. Never had twice a day, but what I discovered is that my blood pressure was quite low and I wasn't eating enough for my activity level. Your body will begin to tell you signs right away if you need more nutrition.

I'd look strongly at your diet, plus go to your doctor to have a complete blood test done (I had low white blood cells and low blood platelets - due to stress), while being open and honest to your doctor. Don't wait for the doctor to bring up matters, you have to speak out. Because if you are at a healthy weight, they will assume it's "just nothing" and you need rest. I'd push the subject tho.

I mean, what if your assistant wasn't there. What if you were driving? Frown

I went to a walk-in doctor on the way home from work yesterday.  He was an idiot.  He told me I passed out because of the sight of blood.  But the cut on my hand was TINY and I'm really not someone who gets grossed out by things like this.  When I donate plasma watch them put the needle in without feeling sick at all.  I also ripped stiches open on my breasts years ago after having a surgery to remove a lump, and I didn't get sick.  So his explaination didn't make any sense at all.  I don't think my fainting was serious, but I just wish I had an explaination that made sense so I could prevent this from happening again.

I already had today booked for work.  I still don't feel 100%. 

I think 1600 calories is enoug for a day isn't it?  I'll never lose weight if I have to eat more then that. 

I see my own doctor tomorrow.  He is going to yell at me because he didn't want me to go on this diet to begin with.  Sigh.

I had something similar happen to me.  I didn't actually pass out but came very close.  Once my finger was squeezed in a printer and after releasing it was very close to blacking out (I quickly sat in a chair).   It didn't hurt but it was a shock. Like  you I was in unfamiliar territory (I was a temp at a big corporation)  Another time during vein surgery they were pricking my skin  with needles- it did not hurt at all, and I was not nervous and came very close again to passing out.  Each time it was like "what the hell is happening, I am fine."  My body did respond with a "jolt" each time though.  Maybe the body responds in one way when your brain says something different (like "no big deal, I'm fine")  Hope this helps, and I hope it doesn't happen to you again.  Good luck with your weight loss.

 

Well I went to my doctor today and he told me I fainted because of my diet.  :(


He says that although I'm near the top of my healthy weight range, that is what is healthy for my body.  He said the reason why they have the range is because different things are healthly for different people.  He said there is no reason why anyone should be 300 pounds or anything like that. 


Plus, since I'm trying to get pregnant I need to have a bit of extra weight on me at the begininng (within a healthy range) because many women lose weight in the first trimester. 

It totally wasn't the answer I was looking for but I trust him.  Sigh.  After much debate we agreed 2000 a day is fine with exercise.  Sigh.  Damn.  I guess I'd rather stay my weight and not faint.  It just sucks that other people can be my height and lighter and not have problems.
