A health insurance provider in our state just granted children up to the age of 19 a totally free health insurance plan for two years....if they are undocumented.

A majority of people here have NO health insurance for their kids...citizens who were born here. They cannot afford it.

Wow.

Youre asking if its "fair" for sick kids to live?

...Nope, the fact that their parents snuck them into the US clearly takes away their right to life. Let them die.

...Although when it comes to frozen embryos OMG save them!

thaks, azirra.  now i don't have to say it.

A majority there?  Nationwide the uninsured including those without govt provided or private insurance runs about 15% of population.

Is this for low income family children denied healthcare insurance because of being undocumented? It would help to see a link with specifics - I didnt find anything for Colorado on this.

Well, I guess they have more rights than the kids who are poor and were born here. If they are going to take care of kids...they should take care off ALL the kids who need help. Not just a select group.

Chew on that.

Let's give monarch the benefit of a doubt.   If I'm reading her post correctly, she's asking if it's fair that other kids (those born in the U.S.) don't get that same opportunity for free health insurance as illegal aliens.  I don't know the legal ins and outs of health care and insurance, but I understand where she's coming from about some children getting insurance, and some not based on citizenship.

It's a shame that not everyone has the same opportunity to receive the best health care available.

This is a sensitive topic.  I defer to those who know the legalities of insurance and health care to respond about the facts and fairness. All I know is that no child should ever be turned away from getting the care they need.

I never talked of saving frozen embryos. I think I only argued that people had the right to be against stem cell research. DUH. But whatever snarky dig you can get in that has nothing to do with this subject...go right ahead. :)

without more information, it's a crap shoot trying to figure out what monarch means.

edit: come to think of it, even with more information....

There are PLENTY of children that have no health care insurance, medicaid or even the CHP plan because of income requirements. I am sure the numbers exceed 15% in our district. Too "rich" to get help, but too poor to afford to pay cash to go to the doctor. As a single mom, I was there myself. It was impossible to get help.

I am just wondering why some people have more rights than others. I wasn't trying to say that children should DIE. I am just saying that it should be an equal opportunity.

Yes. And you are the resident expert of everything. As we all know.

I'm glad someone is getting help, it would be nice if they did that for everyone though. :)

the difference, monarch, is that the parents of the "undocumented" child couldn't get insurance even if they could afford it.  and for those parents, owing a debt to a hospital could result in deportation or incarceration.  given the implications, it most definitely can mean the difference between life and death.

i'm not the resident expert of everything, but i try to be comprehensible.

Monarch, is this colorado your speaking of? Please provide some specifics on the situation youre addressing - its hard to discuss otherwise.

But for citizens, we must prove our income to show that we truly need the help. I think the sliding fee scale in this program that is normally applied for US citizens should also be applied to undocumented aliens. That would be fair. They are working here...supporting their families, and buying cars and houses.

I hope Mr.Obama digs in on a national heath plan. I really do.

Yeah. She isn't as snotty and rub-your-nose in the carpet..as some people.

okay.  well she doesn't mind sharing.

i don't understand why you would start a conversation about an issue and then decide to keep the issue a secret.

OK so as some know I don't live in the US but I can chip in because you can't stop me Laughing and we have similar problems here and do not agree with it!

Yes we have free health care at the point of service but we pay a compulsory stamp via our wage/salaries (insurance) yet the illegals come in here pay zilch and get the same health care as us...it's not on!

OP...So no I don't think it's right that they get this.

pg and monarch..... you two need to meet up and have a coffee Smile
