Just thought I would drop a line and say hello. Fairly new to this site. I'm 42 and have been so wrapped up in being a single parent, I completely lost sight of taking care of myself. I think many parents do this. This site seems great. So nice to have others on a similar journey to share the road with. Stop by and say hi sometime. I always welcome friends. ;o)

Hi Lisa
I am fairly new here too been using the site about 5 weeks and find it really helps. I am 41 and have an 11 year old who thinks she is 18 most of the time.
I am doing ok so far lost 13lbs at the moment so am really pleased. Welcome along
Nikki
I too am a single parent ...of 4! 1 boy and 1 girl are married and parents themselves..(.2 grandaughters, 1 grandson). At home is Tyler who is 18 and is autistic as well as mentally retarded,so, he`s like a really big (6 ft 4 in..180 lbs), 7 year old....and Tanya, 16, also alittle delayed.
I will be 49 in 1 week and am tring to drop 20 to 30 lbs. At work we have a `Biggest Loser` contest...winner wins $300.00 at years end. I WANT TO WIN!!!Problem...I`ve never dieted before...sure I needed to,but, I was busy raising my kids!! I understand the idea of dieting...count calories and have more going out than coming in.
I try to stay within 1200 to 1300 cals a day, walk outside(2 to 3 miles), or on the treadmill(1 mile) and have just started doing sit ups, push ups, and jumping jacks....which I can do for only 10 t0 15 mins so far. I am happy to say I have lost 3.6 lbs so far(week 2)
What I don`t know is if I should exercise daily or skip every 3ed day? Also, what`s a good sack lunch? After work snack?
Any help would be much appreciated.....I don`t know for sure what I`m doing....
Good for you! You've got me beat on the sit ups, push ups and jumping jacks. Actually on the walking too. I'm just not motivated at all lately. I've been trying to educate myself more on some of my health issues I have right now.
Anyway, I would look on this site and maybe even the Biggest Loser site for suggestions on things to eat. Turkey is always good for lunch meat. Fresh fruit is terrific. Salads are always awesome (mix in some chicken or something for protein). After work snack, hmmm, maybe a handful of nuts (walnuts or almonds) or an apple cut up with some nut butter (peanut, almond or cashew). Oh! You should check out the Hungry Girl site. I think it's www.hungrygirl.com. She has AWESOME suggestions!! You can sign up for her daily newsletter. You can tell them I referred you. Lisa Gibson or lisag80123. Best of luck and if you have any questions, shoot me a message.
Thanks
Lisa
Welcome Home Lisa! I've been here since I think May I started my Journey April 17th and I've lost a total of 35 lbs!! I just now broke 200 I jumped on the scale this morning and it said 198.5. I haven't been below 200 in years. I'm a recent single mom myself. Husband left because he's having a midlife crisis of sorts and wants a hot, skinny wife. Well he's getting one only it's going to be an ex wife. You can't love me as I am you won't get the chance when I'm the "ideal" weight. But I've found a new man who does like me for who I am. I'm hoping the next few months brings love into the picture, only time can tell.
The only down side I see to loosing weight is having to buy different clothes every few months. I went from a 22 down to a loose 16 right now. I have 14's left in my closet from years ago will have to dig them out. After that I'll have to dig threw my sisters closet then on to my daughters closet! Will be nice to be able to trade clothes with my daughter (she's 20). And the fact that I can run after my 4 year old grandson without having to stop for breathe! My goal is 135 lbs by Feb 14 2010 it's my gift to myself. A gift of health and happiness. What more could a woman want?
Enjoy your time here. Take full advantage of the tools. They do work. And get out and move :)
Hugs
Bea
