So this past month I have really fallen off the wagon.  I've been eating all the wrong things for me and have only exercised like twice.  I've gained about 5 lbs back and I'm so upset about it.  I'm feeling like such a failure right now.  I'm trying to get my mind back in it, but I've just been so depressed lately about things in my life that haven't been going right....I don't know what to do.

So you screwed up...it's okay. Chances are your body needed that break...how restrictive have you been before? What were your methods?

Today (or tomorrow the latest) get back on track. remember to keep plenty of fiber and protein handy and lots of healthy snacks near by (when you plan ahead you avoid the bingeing.

Start working out again. Enough witht the whinning and get your butt back in the gym. Even if you're eating healthy but at your regualar burn level (burn 2000, eat 2000...) if you workout after the month of slacking, chances are you'll still burn.

I took a break from cutting back on cals but continued to workout and feel fine. Next time you feel overwhelmed, take either a day off and eat less or eat more and work harder.

Okay, enough tough love...now quit feeling sorry fo yourself and get back in gear! (Okay now enough tough love for real!)

Nothing but love!

Me too! I was doing so well for the first 3 weeks of May...then into June I just fell apart. A few stressful situations and I was thrown off the healthy track I was on. I'm trying to get back there but like you I'm upset about it. Sometimes I hate how some numbers on a scale can make me feel so bad about myself...

How about together we pull up our socks and kick some butt (our own butt of course!). I always find support the biggest help (along with the number on the scale going down) for motivation!

I think if we just take the past as an education towards the future we can just carry on. I read somewhere that when you falter just pick yourself up and go forward.

I believe in you and I believe that you can carry on with your good lifestyle changes from today.

Draw a line under it and start fresh, perhaps?  A good diet can go some way towards alleviating low moods so, even if you can't fix the things in your life that are going wrong, you could find you're better able to cope if you fix the food.

I find it helps to sit down with a piece of paper and a pencil and just simply sketch out a nice menu for the next day or three....  Get the food right first, don't bother counting the calories.   Good-sized meals, plenty of fruit and veg, you know the kind of thing.

After you've got more onto an even keel with 'healthy eating' you should be feeling more positive, more energetic and you'll probably feel like exercising. Then have a look at the calories.... see if they're OK.

Take it gently.... 5lbs is nothing really.  Good luck

Thanks for that advice....I needed to hear all of it, even the tough love lol.  Before I fell off I was just eating right and exercising 3-4 times a week and only drinking water instead of juice and soda.  It had become kinda easy and then other stuff in my life started falling apart and I guess I kinda fell apart and it's just hitting me today that I've let myself go.  I need to just snap out of it I know...I guess if everything else that's out of my control isn't going right, I can at least make something that is in my control go right....

"I guess if everything else that's out of my control isn't going right, I can at least make something that is in my control go right...."

That's a great attitude! And you'll see that when you get control of even just that, other tthings will fall into place too!

I've been doing the same thing.  I just lost all motivation to go to the gym and then started eating crap at night like I used to do before I started this whole being healthy and exercising thing.  But this week I decided enough was enough and went to the gym.  Doing that definitely helped me want to eat better too because what's the point of doing all the running and weight lifting if I'm just going to eat sweets as soon as I get home and put all the cals right back on?  So good luck getting back on track!  I'm right there with you.

Ok, so I just took my first step and went on Exercise TV on demand and did an aerobics workout.  I got a really good sweat in, was some intense cardio, and I actually feel a little better...and it does make me want to not eat unhealthy food.  Ok, time for my ab workout and then I can officially be proud of myself for the day.  Lord, please help me continue all the way to the 50lb mark...20lbs to go!  Thank you guys for slapping some sense into me.  I can't let myself go back to where I was before, no matter what's going on in my life.

Messing up is so normal. I mess up my eating goals almost daily. For the last few nights, I've totally pigged out. And I feel like crap. But you just have to say to yourself, "Tomorrow is a new day and I can make a fresh start."
So that is what I did today. Sometimes I think that I get off course because I restrict myself too much - I kind of go to an extreme. So eventually I compensate for that I stuff myself when I am not even hungry.

I've gone through periods where I didn't eat healthy or exercise for months. But I just got back on track by reminding myself how much better I felt when I did things the right way.

Being healthy when you've been unhealthy is a cyclical experience. I try to keep in mind that I know I will fall off the wagon occassionally. And I also know that I gotta get back on that wagon and keep on truckin :) Never give up!

I totally fell off the bandwagon recently so I completely share your frustrations. However, I keep two things in mind throughout this journey. For one, I refuse to beat myself up over losing weight (I have come too far for that crap), and number two, remember that each day is a new day. I wish you nothing but the best. I am sure you can do it!

I have started a new group, check it out!

It is called - Daily Movement

This group is about getting healthy and having fun doing it.  I am open to ideas from others, and what they are doing to motivate them selves for themselves.  What are you doing each day to move your muscles?  To make yourself feel pretty and happy.  This is not a group that allows us to put our selves down, whine and complain. Self pity is self sabotage. We are just average people doing and average job of enjoying a healthy and happy life.  If you got out of bed this morning, you already started moving your muscles to feel better.  If you brushed your teeth and combed your hair, you already moved your muscles.  If you put some music on and danced as you made a good healthy breakfast, you moved your muscles and made a good choice based on good nutritional needs.  Lets start from were we are today.  Let’s not strive to be perfect.  Share what you did today to get healthy!  When, was your last check-up or saw the dentist?  There are all kinds of resources out there regardless of cost.  Regardless of not having insurance.  I’d be glad to share them.  Perhaps you have suggestions. I am not a professional.  I have real issues just as average people do.

I hope you’ll join me to the road to good health and discovering a fun and personalized way to do it!

Kathy

Check out my profile!  Been were you at many times.  I found when something becomes such hard work, and guilt is involed.  That sets us up to fail!

Every little success builds self confidence, but we over look them constantly.  We only acknowledge big successes, then we give our selves credit.  Setbacks are normal and part of everyday life.  It is easier to reach our goals when we acknowlege they we are average and put forth our best efforts.  What good things did you do today for yourself.  When I wake in the morning I ask my self what do I want to do with this one day, then be realistic, objective and optimistic!

We all fall off the wagon at times...When i fall off I just start over again like its day 1....Start by keeping track of your calories and exercise a couple days of week...You'll be surprised on how good you feel because you're being proactive again....
