Family pregnant with 19th kid...

Quote  |  Reply

This is SICKENING!! the Duggar family announced today that they're expecting their 19th child. The mother is 42. She's also refusing to get prenatal testing because she said she does not worry about health risks.

Now, I'm religious. I go to church. But the Duggar family is completely mixed up in thinking that God intends for them to have NINETEEN FREAKING KIDS.

Ahhh it just makes me so angry. :/

Wait, I thought that it was Josh & Anna, the two kids who just got married that were having a kid?  The Duggar mom just had another baby... what is going on with these people?

They aren't just religious.. they are posessed by something.  Honestly.. I mean, they seem like great, friendly people who love their kids more than anything.. but come on.  Sarah Palin is the perfect example.. if you have a baby when you're old, it could very well to turn out, for lack of better word, retarded.

...They're having kids like catholics O_o (and I'm not being judgemental, I'm a catholic). I'm french canadian and up until a few decades ago, it wasn't just that God wanted you to have as many kids as possible. It was considered the WORST sin if you in any way tried to prevent a woman from getting pregnant.  So families having 15-20, sometimes even more, kids was just normal. Loads of families had 15 kids and up.

But these were other times. They're living kind of backwards.

On the other hands, they're not in debt, they don't depend on government help and they can provide for all their kids...so I say they can pretty much do as they wish. Would I have as many kids and would I raise them the way they raise theirs? No, but that's me.  The number of kids they have is of no incidence to anyone else, and all their kids are healthy.

Er how about "birth defects" or "Down's Syndrome" or anything that is not "retarded"? ffs

It's just a word. It doesn't make any sense to get upset over a word.

Yes it does make sense to be upset over a word. Words have meaning. In some cases, very insulting, very off-base meanings.

Not all types of mental retardation can be covered with 'down's syndrome.' Mental retardation is still considered a diagnosis, and when you conjugate it, you end up with mentally 'retarded.' I don't think katesorad was attempting to offend all people with mental retardation.

While this is not a life style choice I would make for myself, they are supporting themselves, they do not rely on handouts, so surely it's up to them how many children they have? The only reservation I have is that the older children help bring up htelittle ones lets hope that's not at the cost of theirown child hood.

There is a religious family in the Highlands of Scotland who have 21 kids

there is gossip that she has had more but i don't know how true that is.

I personally think that is too many kids but if they are supporting the children, on their own with no public assistance and the children are well cared for then it is their business.  As far as prenatal testing goes that is her choice. She would not abort either way so why pay for it?

Kate, yeah Josh and Ana are expecting as well. And the Duggar parents have an 8 month old right now :/

Emilie, I'm Catholic! I actually come from a pretty conservative Catholic family...got lots of priests in my family :) Anyway, most Catholics I know probably have an average of 3 kids. I think maybe my grandparent's generation was encouraged to have as many babies as possible, but I don't think that's the case anymore. I can think of one Catholic family I know who has 7 kids, and they're actually considered a little off. I'm not judging someone who has 7 kids, but yeah, I am judging the Duggars for having 19 kids!!!

jc,

Why does this make you mad? Like others posted, they are self-sufficient. That is their choice.  I went to high school with some kids that's parents had 17, and that's right here in Missouri.

Yea, we all think it's weird and stuff.  But it really is their choice.

My question just is, "Does the mother ever get dressed?" :P

^lol.

Question, how is the mothers health? I cant remember but I think I saw a picture of the whole family in the news and the mother looked awful. Much older than she really is. But I guess she may look at it as a self sacrifice to God or something. To bring all these children into the world must be taking a toll on herself. Like what if she dies giving birth or something drastic like that. Now the father will probably start to lean on the older ones to care for the young ones if thats not already happening which im pretty sure it is.

I'm more curious if she would just like a zipper put in......well, nevermind.

Do I think it's crazy? Absolutely. Would I ever do it? Heavens no! But really, is it bothering me? No. Am I having to support or take care of them? No. Are they expecting handouts of any type or on any government support? Nope.  So while I may not get it or care to ever do anything like that, realistically it doesn't bother me.  The children are supported, well care for, educated and seem to truly care for each other.  More power to her and her family for being able to do it and make for happy, healthy, polite children.

I would never die my hair blond, but I have nothing against them...LOL

I'm gonna take a stand here and just say what I think...

It DOES bother me that someone chose 19 kids. Even if they are financially supporting them, there is no way you can tell me that these people were able to show the care and attention that young kids deserved when they had another 18 kids running around. How are they paying for their college anyway, if any of them want to go? They must be freaking loaded.

And on top of that, this might seem farfetched, but I don't really think it is. We are having a serious population problem in the world and people popping out as many kids as possible just isn't helping XD.

Bottom line, I think it's irresponsible to society and their children. Sorry, but that's just what I think

Gross.

No, it doesn't make sense to let a word rally your emotions to the point that you get upset.  Accidently putting a nail through your thumb with a nail gun is a good reason to get upset, but a word is not.

I don't think it would be a big deal if they wanted to have 19 kids and could support them and live OUT of the media spotlight. But no, just like John and Kate, they are selling their family. I wonder what God thinks about that? ;p

jc,

It makes me angry because I think it's wrong and selfish on the parent's part. How can a parent give each child the love and attention they need, when they have 19 kids? sure, they might be able to financially support them, but money is not the only thing to consider here. I'd much rather grow up not having enough money than growing up without attention from my parents.

It also makes me frustrated (not angry) because I think the Duggars are wrongly interpreting God's will. Of course I'm not God so there's a great chance I'm completely off-base, but this is just my personal opinion. I personally don't think God would want someone to have that many children. I also don't think God would want someone to keep consciously trying to get pregnant after you hit a certain age. I don't think this Duggar lady is going to stop until she hits menopause. She's 42 right now, so there's a good chance she won't start showing signs of pre-menopause until around 50. At the rate she's going, she could easily have 5 more kids between now and then. I know some people have oops babies in their 40s, or perhaps someone was trying to get pregnant for a long time and wasn't able to conceive until later in life. But I think someone who already had 18 kids is irresponsible in trying to get pregnant after the age of 40. Just my personal opinion.

I wasn't trying to offend any type of retardation, no.  Like someone else pointed out, there are more types of retardation other than Down's Syndrome.  Certain deformities can also be in this category, etc.  The word retarded has a certain dictionary definition, but the changing of language has made it turn into a very negative term, which I don't use it as.  I hardly ever use it, rather, because I have known, and been good friends with people who had several forms of retardation.  I didn't view them any differently other than the fact that sometimes they needed a little extra help to get things done, which isn't even a big issue.. sometimes I need extra help too.

I can't believe Josh & Anna are also expecting and so is this Duggar lady.  This is really sad.  They seem like incredible parents and just really great people, but how many kids is too many?  You have to know when to stop.  I mean, they seem SO nice, it's ridiculous, but I don't know why they want to keep reproducing.  The biggest thing is that if she keeps having kids, she may not make it to their college graduation, or to see their children, etc.  I think part of having children is getting to see them grow and succeed.. My mom had her last baby when she was 35, and she had worries that 35 was even pushing it.
