If I can go SLOW enough, about 1.3 miles, possibly more.
I can run 2.5 miles without stopping for sure.  I havent ran in a couple of weeks and hope it cools down enough to run some this week at night.  Take it easy and go SLOW!  when neeners had me go for my first mile, I felt like I could walk faster than I was going!  Keep your arms still, dont swing them alot.  YOU CAN DO IT!
hey rahanna... don't be surprised at how quickly your mileage can add up... i started in january and can run 15 miles without stopping! i haven't tried running farther yet, but one of these days, when the temperatures drop i will! my normal runs are anywhere from 4-9 miles, my regular long runs are 12-13 miles... and i should tell you that when i started running in january, i could barely run a few minutes, let alone a few miles! slow and steady turns into long distance running before you know it!

just a tip: don't try to run fast, just slow, barely above a walk... you'll last longer! speed is not your goal right now, time spent running should be!

good luck today!
omg slappy you push me..

2.5 miles... wow....damn I dont even know if I can go 1 mile..... :)

so slappy.. that's great.
NOW! wait a minute!  I started at the end of April so it took me a while to get just this far!  try for a mile and dont give up.  Im serious!  Just act like you are running with a 3 year old, baby steps.  Just think this.....The slower you go, the further you go.  Right Meljo??
When I first started out, I couldn't go more than 10 mins without
starting (this was about 5 years ago or so), and that 10 mins was no
longer than a little over a half-mile. It was HARD! And I hurt a LOT.
And I really wondered how people ever enjoyed doing something so
painful. But for me, getting to 3 miles without stopping was the big
obstacle, and after that, it just got easier and easier. So I hope you
stick with it--it will become natural and effortless soon enough. Good
luck!
Rahana, the only way to fail at running is to psych yourself out of trying.

I DO Think you should be smart and be running in the morning or in air conditioning, especially with this heat, but... you can do it.

Abby, I'm 270 and I can make the house shake when I walk and *I* can do a mile. You darn well CAN do a mile and if you can't do it right now, I bet you could within a month or so.
yes! slow is the key! i should have also said that when i started running, i ran everyday... so my mileage may have increased a little quicker than some. but GO SLOW!
damn you guys got my psych now. :)I ran for a while last week without stopping but I didnt check it to see how far I could go.

lol .. you make the house shake. I highly doubt that literally but ok :)

I will take advice of not running to fast and keeping hands at my side.
I started two weeks ago and just hit 3 miles on saturday. I am a slow runner and average a 11:30 mile. I found if I pace myself at this speed I can go further, when I first started I did a 10 minute mile, but that was the furthest I could run.

Pace yourself, trust me.........

good luck
awe, c'mon rahana....can't I answer that question?????  PLEEEEZZZEEE?????

Don't forget, we're gonna run the 10K/5K or 1 mile walk in Vegas in November....get ready!
Well, I can't run, I can jog for about 30 minutes without stopping.  I need to work on maybe jogging faster.
nope neeners you're not in this one. You're way above where I want to be. :)

Rahana, check this out if you havent already.  There are alot of girls in the NYC area, wasnt sure who would be closest to you.  Its free and maybe you can find someone to run with?  Maybe meet a friend!!!
leydic, 30 minutes witout stopping is awesome! i wouldn't worry about speed, i would try to increase your distance...

i just read your profile, and you've come along way! good for you keeping that weight off!
I started in June and the furthest I've gone is 3.15 miles without stopping.  I have done intervals (run/walk/run/sprint/walk) for 4.75 miles and averaged 11.5minute per mile over that entire route including the walking.  I haven't tried all out running farther than that.  Even in yesterday morning's fish bowl humidity I was running at 10minute per mile.  I'm pretty sure I could go more than my 3.15 route.

Hopefully this humidity and heat moves out of here so I can put on more miles.  I want to run, not swim!
I started last week, and this morning I ran my entire 2 mile route without stopping. (it actually maps out to 2.37 miles including my brisk walk around my crescent for cooldown.)

mind you, I was doing alot of walking before I started to run. I don't run fast, but I get there. ^_^ I'm trying to make it more of a mileage thing anyway, though.
I just met my goal of running 5 miles straight (actually did 5.2).
You can do this, I started walking at the beginning of April, and you see how far I've come.....

Just take it slow and easy. You'll be running several miles in no time!
thanks for that link slappy. I signed up and hopefuly I can find someone close to me.

thanks guys I am going to try my luck tonight.
I started at the end of June, and my best so far has been 1 hour without stopping.  At best guess that was between 4 and 4.5 miles.  My normal is around 3 miles, going pretty slow.  When I push for speed I can only go about 1 mile before I die.  :)
