What Fashion Do You Hate?
Ok, at the mo there are tons of different fashions, a lot of stuff 're-hashed' from the past etc.
What is the one (or more) thing that is in style at present that you think is just awful?
Piercings I'm more favorable about, even ones in places other than your earlobes. On the right person, a tiny nose stud or eyebrow peircing can look pretty, and even lots of piercings can look right on the right person. But I don't care for the new trend, where it's like some big circle or something and you have to poke a huge hole in your lobe. And I think tongue studs are ludicrous and make the wearer look cheap and trampy.
Regarding fashions others have mentioned:
Crocs - frankly, tattoos are a thousand times worse than crocs, in my book... and I would never be caught dead in crocs. The only people who should wear them are 1) children 2) nurses and other professionals on their feet all the time and 3) people over 80 who are in nursing homes. With that said, I am compassionate for those of us who have foot problems such as bunions... so this is not the worst fashion faux pas in my book.
Skinny jeans - look great on the right figure. I have a pair, because I'm a hipless wonder. :-) I hate acid-washed jeans and mom jeans more than skinny jeans. In particular I hate the type of jeans that are white-washed on the butt... reminds me of, ahem, baboon butts.
Capris - the vast majority of people don't look good in these, or they don't pay enough attention to fit and choose the wrong pair. Also I can't stand it when people wear a 3/4 sleeve shirt with capris - looks like their clothing has shrunk!
Animal prints - my DH also hates this, but a little can be nice, and it is a classic that actually never goes out of style. I have animal print mules that are so cute with an all-black outfit. A skinny belt, a small clutch bag works too.
Overpriced handbags - I don't mind paying money for quality, but I refuse to pay money to wear someone's logos. For example, I do love the quality of Coach bags and own some leather ones, but I do not like the Coach print bags with the logo all over them. I also can't stand the oversize bags - I'm petite these look ridiculous on me. And I don't like bags with so much hardware and bling the bag weighs a ton without anything in it!! Otherwise, you can get really cute, inexpensive bags at Target. :-)
Shoulder pads - what were we thinking??? Please say no!!
Empire waist shirts - I like this as a refreshing change of pace from the belly-baring, muffin-top years. Again, it's about fit. You want one that isn't too baggy.
Camo - just say no... unless you're under 18.
Flip-flops - fine for the beach, but nowhere else.
Skirts or shorts with tights - agree about the tights with shorts (Lord Fauntleroy look?), but skirts with tights looks nice to me. And it's practical in cold weather.
Plaid - is big this fall. But it is like animal prints - a little goes a long way. And it is all about scale too. I have a pair of plaid wool slacks in muted beige/browny tones that hits just the right note, and a plaid scarf. That's about it for me.
I don't have a problem with anyone that's stylish right now, I just know what looks good on me and what doesn't. e.g. Skinny jeans - They look TERRIBLE on me, however, some of my friends look great in them.
People just need to learn that just because something is trendy right now... doesn't mean you have to wear it or should wear it.
Fashion and clothes should make you look good! Buy stuff that flatters your shape and size!
Men wearing girls jeans
Why? there are mens jeans around, Don't advertise the fact you can fit your package into a pair of jeans aimed at fitting 14 year old girls. Its not attractive, its off putting and quite frankly you look stupid. Take the eyeliner off too while your at it. ---Yep, I agree, not so into the whole EMO thing.
The reintroduction of the 80's vest last fall was nightmarish. Another confusing item: ankle boots. How do they work? I am completely befuddled by them ---I've always hated these too. I think they're awful, particularly when embellished by studs, metal rings, or chain. Ew.
But what drives me absolutly crazy is the FLIPPED COLLAR. ---Popped collars actually raise my blood pressure. The worst offender I ever saw was a guy, about 18 years old, who had on TWO polo shirts, one pink and one baby blue, both with popped collars. It was offensive.
One infraction I didn't see mentioned in the thread at all is the tight, long knit top worn with a wide belt over it. This never fails to make even the slenderest woman look like she has a poochy belly. The other type of belt you typically see over a long shirt is the gold chain or gold lame belt. Ugh!
Skinny jeans look so much better.
And I hate when guys wear pants that are way too big.
Girl jeans or skinny jeans on guys are orgasmicly hot.
Huge round earrings that are bigger than your head.. earrings just aren't meant to be that big..
Kids that walk around school wearing fake tails and cat ear headband things.. you're not a cat and you will NEVER be one.
Also something that bugged me when it was in style.. those shawl things.. I can't stand them, they are just hideous IMO.
i've never seen guys wearing girl jeans but that must look pretty silly.
I don't like men who wear pants so large and that fall so low that their underwear are visible. And honestly, when they wear their baggy pants falling very low, it make me think that it looks as if they had pooped in their pants!
In (young) women/girls, I don't like when thongs are visible (very tacky) or when their cheeks are visible because they wear a skirt waaayyy too short (yes, i've seen that). Also the bras and tank tops so tight that their boobs look like they're going to pop out anytime. It's very prostitute-like if you want my opinion. And I see that a lot.
Otherwise, I hate capri pants. Who ever thought it would look good on anyone who's not tall and skinny? And even then I find it ridiculous.
and yes I hate seeing overtight bras too....
CROCS are a sin against fashion. im sorry everytime i see them i want to shove a pencil in those stupid holes....
CROCS have to be the winner! Of course those pants that look like they have a wet or nasty diaper in them because they are hanging so low are pretty bad too!
i'm still confused about the whole 'men wearing girl pants' trend. i never saw anyone wear them. do you mean guys that just wear really tight skinny jeans? the emo look? or is there something else that i'm missing? anyone care to post links/pics? because the thought of men even doing this blows my mind away. it's just so disgusting...
I'm a fan of flared jeans actually, I think they look good on gals with bigger hips... kinda balances things out.
as for that shirtless sleeves thing that purespark posted, my aunt totally gave me one of those for Christmas a couple years back. I remember thinking "and.. where's the rest of it" they were actually semi-popular a few years back when i was in highschool.
crocs
shrugs - those stupid half shirt things
ANYTHING sequins! Did anyone have to experience those huge bags with sequins all over it?
turtlenecks
shoulder pads
hiking boots worn anywhere except outside
baggy jeans on guys where their boxers show
guys who wear their boots untied
trucker hats
huge holiday earings or pins
huge ass sweaters
uggs!! Oh my god!!!! GRRRRR
horizontal stripes
not a big fan of the 'gangsta' look either
And the guys in girls jeans isn't that bad... maybe i'm just biased because most of my guy friends wear girls' jeans.
But I totally agree with the crocs. bleh.
I can't think of anything else right now but I'm sure something'll come up.
