Fast heartbeat after eating?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi guys, hope you're well.

I wandered if anyone else gets a noticeable increase in heart rate - like after you've gone up the stairs fast (!) after eating?

I mostly notice it after breakfast (no coffee btw) and it lasts about 1 hour.

Any idea why this is? x

I experienced this while I was in IP at the hospital. I noticed after I had finished eating (or during), my heart rate would be extra high. I found that it mostly would happen to me after bedtime snack or after I had eaten super fast due to being rushed (which I ate like all the time).

Eating, digesting and converting food to energy all requires a little effort on the part of the body.  Generates warmth, raises the heart-rate, affects blood-pressure a little... .all kinds of things happen.  Try to eat in a relaxed way, take it steadily and don't overload your digestion with too much rich food.

And, of course, if you continue to get palpitations then talk to your doctor about it.

I have had that when my metabolism was speeding up. I can remember dripping from sweat too during the day even not just at night. Of course it is important to not brush something off so if you notice it becoming severe or something different I would go in for a gp apt.

I get that now especially if I have bigger meals so now I do 6 small meals each day and it helps and protein also makes the body work harder.

I get like this almost every time I eat a meal.  It's been like that my whole life.  My heart races and my hands shake and I get hot a sweaty.  It's pretty much a normal thing for me.  Do you remember when it first started happening to you?

I have experienced this i think it is normal. but if you are worried please see your doctor perhaps have an ecg

Okay thanks everyone! I'm not worried, it always goes back to normal after a little while and I don't feel like I'm having palpitations. So I guess it's normal and what I thought it might be - my body working a bit to digest it ect.

I know I have lung disease which makes your heart have to work a bit harder anyway as I get tired more easily with low oxygen levels ect. So it makes sense I think! x
