Weight Loss
Moderators: duke3522, devilish_patsy, topanga1485, nycgirl, spoiled_candy, cmillington, coach_k How fast do you lose weight on your plan?
When I first started to lose weight I was 164 and I lost my first 8
pounds literally within two weeks, which I feel was beneficial and kept
me motivated. However, when I first lost the weight I was not
extremely active and now I am wondering why its taken me about a
month and a half to lose 7 more pounds when I am going to the gym
almost ever day (which I didnt use to do). I try to eat
frequently and stay low cal and I know I burn at least 300- 400
calories at the gym a night, so whats up with this slow weight loss??
Is this normal?? Or should I be changing something in my plan? How fast are you losing yor weight now thats you have been on your diet/ exercise plan for awhile?

So.. you've lost 7 lbs. in 6 weeks? Believe it or not, that's pretty
typical for women. That's why this site advertises that 1 - 2 (average
1.5) lbs. per week is healthy.
It's hard work, but it sounds like you're on the right track!
Be patient!

yeah, the first few pounds usually just FALL off, and then your loss stabilizes at a slower pace. You're also exchanging some fat for muscle. Have you measured yourself?
how many calories are you taking in daily? if you're at too much of a deficit (outgo more than income), your body won't let go of the weight.
I agree, I average 1-2 pounds a week also.
Sorry, but no quick fix here, just tried and true methods that take time and a lifetime commitment

If you haven't exercised for a long time your body needs time to adjust. You might be gaining muscle which could be off-setting the fat loss. Stick with it though because it will pay off. I went through the same thing and my measurements were going up around my legs! But now I can tell I've turned the corner.
It took about six weeks after I started working out to regulate I think.

First 2-3 weeks I lost a bunch. I think my first week 5lbs fell
off of me. I was astonished. Then it started leveling out
to nearly 2lbs per week then 1.5 lb per week, then more like 1lb per
week. But right now I'm on this lovely plateau.
/sigh
After my last plateaus I was still only 1lb per week. It actually flattened out rather quickly. Just be thrilled if you can keep the scale going in the right direction even if it does stall out on you. Even if the numbers by your toes aren't telling you the happy news, there's positive results somewhere!

I've been here for 2.5 months. In the first two months, I averaged 3 lbs a week... and I have lost NOTHING this entire month. Total plateau. It really depends on way too many factors to compare it to anyone else.
I've been averaging just under 2lbs a week. However I haven't been necessarily dropping 2 pounds every week. The beginning I droped quite a bit quickly, much of it I'm sure was water and other junk as my body cleansed itself when I was no longer abusing it with continous junk, and it suddenly found it self alot more active.
<P>
Some weeks I might drop 2 or 3 pounds or such. Other weeks I might not drop more than a few ounces. Keep in mind also depending on when / how you weigh yourself, some of the weight is also the water you've drank that hasn't passed thru yet, food that is still in digestion etc. .Don't go soley by the scale, also go by how you feel, how your clothes fit, how your appearance changes. Even in weeks where the scale doesn't move, I can feel other changes, that keep me motivated.
I find it easiest to start with a long term goal, and then break it down into shorter easy to manage goals. Some days my only goals is that I will not touch the chips or desserts at the office potluck. Other times it is to move another size with in a monthly period or so.
Every couplel of weeks or so, I try on smaller clothes to see how they are fitting better. AS they fit better it gives me more encourangement. If you can afford it, everytime you feel your clothes start to get looser or bigger, treat yourself to something newer and smaller. To keep that fitting, or make it bigger on you, can also be a goal. It feels good to treat yourself to someting other than food as a reward. I've found Aquamassage is great for me, but what ever you like that makes you feel good and doesnt' blow your budget will work.

I've been averaging 3/4 pound a week. So far I've lost 17 pounds in 24 weeks. This is without any exercise at all. I'm hoping to up this to 1 pound a week by attendng a pulmonary rehab class 3 times a week for 18 sessions. Then I should be strong enough to try some water aerobics or water walking.
it's because muscle wieghs more then fat. you probbaly lost like 15 lbs of fat and gained 8 of muslce. not even kidding. leik I usualy weigh 123, but when I do track/xc I gain 6 lbs. it's all muscle I sware. now you might think, well screw muscle, but with more muscle you'll have a faster metabolism and burn fat more easily. for a good runner the really good inshape, thin looking wieght for someone liek 5'7 is 150ish. for an out of shape person it would be less. trust me, it works. PLUS, dont' alwasy look at the scale to guage your progress, look at how you look and feel in cloths and in the mirror. measurements also help! good luck with the exercise!

46lbs over 11 weeks = 4.18 a week. I walk 2.5 to 5 miles a day and eat between 1350 and 1750 average a week.
Barbaraallen is right...muscle weighs more....judge by how your clothes fit...not by what the scale says....keep doing what your doing....in time you might not weigh what you thought you would but I bet you will be trim, in shape and healthy!
