fast metabolism

Quote  |  Reply

i see the skinniest girls at burger king scoffing burger sets followed with sundaes. that's got to be 2000 calories in one meal.

do you know anyone who eats a lot of junk food and is still skinny? and not in their teens?

Yup, i saw something on TV about people with hypermetablisms a while ago. One guy on it had to eat huge amounts a day (and he was still super skinny!)...pretty much had to just continue to eat all day in order to get enough.

But, its not that bad for most people....it has a really wide range.

Sure. They also tend to be hyper active. So it's the combination of things. OTOH they often risk ending up skinny fat. Skinny fat [healthy weight but with a belly] can actually be more dangerous then just being over weight.
My husband has a really fast metabolism. He has to eat a lot to Maintain weight, and it's really hard for him to gain. He's not really really skinny, 6'0 at 160 lbs. but he could definately stand to gain some. But I know it's his metabolism cause he had to go in for outpatient surgery one time. They gave him a percasit (no clue how to spell that) and vicatin (that either! hahaha). Anyway they gave him that to kind of numb him up before they gave him local anesthetic, but neither of them worked. The dr said that his metabolism is so fast that it pushed the pain killers through his system before they got a chance to work. He has the same problem at the dentist. They've actually given him fillings before without pain killers! yuck yuck yuck.
omg I always wanted to have a HIGH metabolism but no being able to take pain killers, or taking them and them not working is worse for me!!!

I get really bad migraines once in a while so I need my Tylenol.  O guess every one pros and cons
my stepdad eats about 3,000 cals a day and is very trim, 6' @ 165 lbs -- and he eats a lot of sugar too... yesterday his 'diet' included 4 little debbie snack cakes and 6 homemade chocolate chip cookies (so it's not all healthy calories either)

and my bf has a very fast metabolism -- he hasn't been eating enough and he's losing weight even though he doesn't want to -- he's lost 20 lbs since last Christmas and is down to 145 lbs @ 6' and he's very muscular so I think his body fat % might be getting dangerously low.  We've been trying to fatten him up, but it's slow going.

Such people do exist.

Such people are the minority because it's amazing that their ancestors survived food shortages in the past.
i have a girlfriend that has weighed 110 pounds since i can remember (we are now in our late twenties) and she can eat literally anything she wants however she is in the bathroom 20 minutes later lol! i think some people are just born skinny. in my case, if i look at a brownie it goes directly to my bum!

Yes, it's totally true. All the men and women from my father's side of the family have speedy fast metabolism's. These people range from 20 to 70 years old,and have stayed slender over the year's without doing anything special. Luckily I've inherited it too!

Another drawback to that metabolism- some change with pregnancy. they then have a horrible time changing their habits.  My mother was one- she was dosed so much with cod liver oil she could easily swallow it without making a face.

absolutely - my husband is 6'1" and almost 155 lbs if he's lucky - he's 35 and hasn't changed his pants size since he was 16.  If he goes too long without eating something (just a few hours, really), he gets the shakes, because the food just speeds right on through.  I think he would have to eat more food then there's time in the day to eat it just to gain weight.  And yes, as soon as he finishes eating, he's in the bathroom within 10-15 min.  Food goes in-food goes out!  I'm so jealous, my metabolism is sooo sluggish, sometimes with things taking 2 or more days just to go through my system, and it's so incredibly easy for me to gain weight.  I have 10 lbs to lose and have been working on it since the beginning of the year, if that's any indication!  grrrrr.......
MY BROTHER!!!  It's just not fair.  The boy...he's 24 can't gain weight to save his life.  I think he's 5'8" maybe 5'7" and around 155 pounds.  He eats everything in sight but nothing.  Grrr...he graduated from the Coast Guard about 2 years ago and then the Rescue Swimmer School (think of the Guardian...Ashton Kutcher) about a year or so ago.  He had to gain weight for that so he worked out like crazy and ate everything.  He's bigger BUT it's all muscle!  Just not fair.  :)
My husband has a realllly fast metabolism. He can eat whatever he wants (he eats a TON), and not gain a pound. He is 5'9 and 150, and he really wants to gain some weight but he never does, no matter how much he eats. He is also really active though, plays baseball and works in a hospital ER and is on his feet the whole 12 hour shift...so maybe that also contributes to his fast metabolism.
I want to kill these people with fast metabolisms. Seriously, its so annoying counting calories and stuff when you see people just carelessly stuffing their faces with the things you'd love to be eating.

If I eat one slice of pizza I get love handles and my ass jiggles for a week. Its just not fair.
My sister used to eat a whole thing of cut and bake pillsbury chocolate chip cookies everyday after school (she ate lunch and dinner too, and a lot of snacks such as honey mustard pretzels with cream cheese) and was 106 pounds (maybe 5'3, size 0-4 jeans)...

She moved around a lot, but still. At that time my family ate mostly take-out dinners or TV dinners. So, I believe she had very fast metabolism.
I have at least 3 friends who have a really fast metabolism. They're all teens but if you see their family and how they eat, you will see it's not just from hard work and eating right.

One of my friends is about 5'3", 100 lbs and does absolutely nothing; nada, zip, not a thing to keep her weight maintained. She eats a bucketload of crap like soda, pizza, chips, candy, you name it. But regardless of it all, she stays very thin. I have to admit it's annoying lol because whenever we go out to eat I'm trying to watch what I eat and she devours anything on the menu. At least it's nice to know that I have her mile time beat by at least 4 minutes. Haha... She is also a "skinny-fat" girlie. If you poke her in the arm, your finger would go in at least 3/4 of an inch. No kidding. So hopefully she'll realize in due time that just because she's thin doesn't necessarily mean she's healthy.

I used to eat probably 2,000+ calories a day, and all the wrong foods

(I've always loved veggies&nbs p;and fruits, though, so  at least I had that).

And yet I never have  ;weighed more than 105 lb s. And I have muscle tone.

I've been told I do  have a very high metaboli tic rate.

My dad does, too. Some say that very highstrung people have this tendency.

I'm sure it has slowed&nb sp;a bit since I'm eating  a lot less, but I&n bsp;doubt it will become  problematic.

I can still occassionally  ;cheat on weekends/outings wit h friends, etc, and not&n bsp;gain anything (other than& nbsp;24 hours of water we ight perhaps)

here i was wondering if some girls were just bulimic.

My hubby is one of those he is 5'11" and weights 160. He can eat 5 pieces of pizza in a sitting...or 2 qudoba burritos if he is really hungry. He dosent work out and only occasionally goes on walks. It's so frustrating because he has no understanding for what it's like to be overweight!!!!

My husband is another one.  He can eat, eat and eat and not gain weight.  He does work out 2 - 3 times a week.  For breakfast he has 1200 calories alone.  At dinner he stops eating because he is full and 10 minutes later he is looking for dessert.  He hates not being able to gain weight.  If he misses one meal he loses weight and gets upset.

He will be 50 next month.  His Dad keeps telling him someday he will gain weight just like he did.

oh god i have such a bad attitude towards skinny people with fast metabolisms

i get so angry about it

about 5 of my friends have BMIs of 17.5 or lower and are as sskinny as hell.

it hurts so much to watch them slip into size 6 topshop skinny jeans - about szie 4 us and topshop has extremely small sizes, so about size 2 i would say. and eat mcdonalds.

it is so unfair i could cry and yet they get pissed off with people for being jealous of them, which is fair but even so they have no idea what it feels like.

i obviously feel for people with abnormally fast metabolisms and who have big trouble and health problems but the skinny teenagers who just meander through life eating what they want i dont.

Yeah, people who can eat mass quantities of delicous foods are pretty annoying. I have 3 very dear girlfriends who are like this. God bless them all, I love them very much but I have to really calm myself down when one of them will harass me with a piece of 3000 calorie coffee cake so that I have to kindly say "no" fifty times. Meanwhile they scarf it down and stay ultra-thin always.

I may not be fat, but I have to agonize over caloric intake to stay at a normal weight. My body responds to weight gain quickly and easily. Haven't we all dreamed of being one of these people who never thinks twice about not eating whatever their heart desires? Rest assured, while these people can stay skinny without trying, the vast majority of us gain weight without trying.
