which gives me faster results? treadmill or workout DVD?
if i want to lose about 20 *or less* (I mean as much as I can) lbs in two months, which is a better thing to do i mean which will help me reach my goal faster?
do cardio with stationary bike and treadmill 6 days a week/
OR do cardio 3 days and strength training with workout DVDs 3 days?
calories i eat daily is around 1500-1900.
i am 190 lbs and i want to reach 170, female 5'7".
i do strength training workouts not cardio aerobics.
**excuse me i said *20 lbs or less* i said i want to lose as much as i can, i WISH i could lose 20lbs but i know it is impossible i read articles and forums on CC+ alot so i know that losing more than 2lbs a week is not healthy, my question wasn't how much i can i lose my question was which routine will help me better!!!
I think your weight loss goal is a bit unrealistic. Shoot for a pound a week and you won't get disappointed so easily if you aren't making your 2.5 pound a week goal.
Either plan will work for losing weight. The one that works best, is the one you enjoy the most and will stick to.
It sounds like you want to lose weight. Then you should stick with the treadmill. IT also depends on the workout DVD's you are doing. Some workout DVD's tone while others burn more calories.
20lbs in 2 months does seem inrealistic. Like Johnny said, aim for a pound a week and you will be happy when you see results!
I found lifting heavy weights works best for me! I may not have lost all of the "pounds" I wanted to but I lost inches which is more important to me.
In general, the most effective workout is the one you'll stick with. And it should be noted that it is possible to over exercise - I would recommend putting another rest day in there.
I agree with the other posters that your goal may be a bit to agressive. Why the rush?
i want to lose weight for an important meeting and i Wish to look thinner :( no not over exercise just 90 minutes but cardio or strenght trainig video
I'm no expert, but only one day per week of recoup time for your body may not be enough. And if I'm not mistaken, any progress that you make with a strength training video will be compromised if you alternate it with too much cardio. Some more experienced people with weight training can give you specifics on that.
If you really want to look thinner, have you considered acheiving that look with a really good outfit that accentuates your best features, and if needed, wear some figure control garments underneath, like spanx?
Of course, it's up to you, but if you're too agressive with goals, if your calorie deficit is too high, and if your body doesn't get enough recovery time, your efforts could be counterproductive.
Good luck!
Hi I'm not sure what DVDs your currently using, but I just started Chalean Extreme- by beachbody and I LOVE it so far. The idea is heavy weights with slow reps so that you increase muslce, and speed up your metabolism, even while your sleeping! Can't beat that.. Let me know if you'd like more info- Stephanie
i do hip hop abs by beachbody too. i also have turbo jam but didnt like it.
I vote treadmill for faster results! lol

Nobody at your meeting is going to notice whether you weigh 170 or 175. And either way, you'll be thinner than you are at 190. The maximum amount of weight you can reasonably lose (and keep off) is 1% of your weight a week. So, you could reasonably aim to lose 15 pounds in two months - but 20 is pushing it.
I vote strength training 3 days a week (as long as the DVD is having you lift as heavy as possible for 8-12 reps - not one of those "lift the 5 pound dumbbell 50 times" videos) with biking/walking/jogging on the other 3 days. As was noted, you don't want to overdo the cardio as your body can't maximize strength improvements (which increase your metabolism so are good!) and cardio improvements at the same time. Light cardio's still good though and will help burn calories. Maybe one or two days of "regular" cardio and one day where you just go for a nice long walk?
20 lbs. in two months isn't going to happen (healthily). It's only safe to lose about 1% of your weight each week, meaning the most you could lose is 1.9 lbs. this week, if you did lose that, next week you could lose about 1.8 lbs, and so on until you got to 170. Unless you were 250 lbs. right now, you can't lose 20 lbs. in two months...
So that said, to lose weight quicker, I would do cardio 6 days a week, and then a strength training dvd 3 times a week. You definitely don't want to just do straight cardio because you'll lose weight (a lot of muscle), but you won't be able to tell because you could end up "skinny fat"
Maybe on the three days you do the strength training dvd, you could do a little less cardio, lower intensity and for a shorter amount of time. To expedite your fat loss, you should also try High Intensity Interval Training (search it in google and you can find a good general HIIT work out, where you alternate between running super fast to running slow or walking)
I agree with the unrealistic expectations. But, to do the best you can, it really depends on what you want. While losing lbs will lower your weight, gaining muscle and losing fat will trim you down more overall. So, it's really up to you (although I'd personally go with toasty's suggestion). I would suggest definitely drinking 8-10 glasses of water a day to help get rid of the extra water weight and any bloating you might have. I've found I lose better doing that too. Just don't at all starve yourself. So not good for the body.
