~Fasting~

Quote  |  Reply

I've been doing alot of research online about fasting for health and weight management.  I wouldn't do anything extreme; like the ten day water fast....but i'm sure i could handle a one day a week water fast. I THINK.  Maybe i'm giving myself too much credit..lol.   Wondering if anyone else had tried this???

DON'T DO IT. I am a recovering anorexic, and believe me, it's not worth it to fast in any way shape or form, even just for a day. Try something less extreme like cutting back on sugary, calorie-packed drinks and eating low-calorie, filling foods (whole grains are your friend!) and lots of fruits and veggies.

I have to agree with coco. Water fasting is not something to do for weight loss. You will be hungry and have to eventually start eating again and whatever weight loss that may have happened will be gone once the body starts eating. My dad recently started bicycling around our block, has kept his calories the same 2,000 sum, and has lost 8 pounds in a week. He's overweight, though, so weight loss is his goal. I think if you feel the need to tighten up or even loose a pound (if needed, judging by your pic it's not) then exercise is the way to go.

Also coco is right: cutting out fast food, glucose (bad sugars) and soda is great. My mom cut out candy and lost a lot of weight by just replacing it with the good sugar in apples. I actually was slightly shocked when she told me that's how she lost weight: an apple instead of a candy bar.

I'm telling you: the emotional AND physical results of long "fasting" are no good.
