Fasting! Help please!
So I will be fasting tonight and tomorrow. I ate dinner right before sundown and now, only a few hours later, I am absolutely ravenous. I'll be able to handle tonight, I'm going to go to sleep before I can eat anything, but tomorrow I think I'm going to need help. When I'm told that I can't eat, it's pretty much all I want to do.
Technically I'm not supposed to drink water, chew gum, brush my teeth, any of that, but I don't think I'll completely follow through with that. I do plan on brushing my teeth (but only once in the morning).
Right now my plan is to stay in the gym or the shower for most of the day because these are the only non food related places I can think of.
Any other suggestions to make my fast successful?
Reason: Moved from Weight Loss to Health & Support forum, thanks.
Are you fasting for religious reasons??
Back in the day, when I attended a penecostal church, all of the teens fasted together for 48 hours. You ARE allowed to drink water, chew gum, && brush your teeth. If you don't eat for that long of a time, you're breath WILL smell very bad. If you dont drink water, then you'll get dehydrated.
But if your religion doesn't allow you to do any of those things to help your breath, then I'd suggest avoid talking to people. You said you're going to brush your teeth, so that's not a problem. The only other piece of advice I have, is to get LOTS of sleep. The more time you spend sleeping, the less time you're thinking about food.
GOOD LUCK!
Happy Yom Kippur, everyone. My friend is also fasting. I'd say, wherever you are, take something to occupy your time with. Do something that requires a lot of work... unless you're not allowed to do work 'cause it's a day of rest... I'm not quite sure what the restrictions are. Anyway, just keep yourself busy, and if you could, do it with a friend, maybe? I'm sorry if I sound horribly ignorant, I just don't know anything about religious restrictions.
Hey! I am fasting right now for Yom Kippur also. I just try and keep my mind off of the food and think about the break the fast dinner that is just around the corner!! If I were you I probably wouldnt stay in the gym all day because then you will just become very thirsty and probably even more hungry.
If you must, drink some water. Good luck and L'Shana Tova!!!!
I fasted for about 5 days and trust me, the gym is the last place you wanna be.. It will only make you hungrier because you're doing more exercise. You can get quite weak after the first day so i suggest having a lot of rest!
I was at temple all evening, and today I'll be at temple all day. It definitely helps take your mind off the fast when you're busy praying. Plus, it's very unlikely anyone's going to whip out a hamburger and start chowing down in front of you, because they're all fasting too. Go to services! They're fun. :)
