Fat Burning Supplements

Quote  |  Reply

I am just bewildered by all the products out there that are supposed to help me burn off this fat.  I'd like to add a fat burner to my routine but don't know what to choose.  All I can find on the web are ads but real reviews are hard to come by.  Can you tell me what has worked for you?

can you say "scam"?

read the fine print.  every one of them wll tell you that you'll burn fat with appropriate diet and exercise.  you don't need the pills; you need the lifestyle.

If fat burners worked, no one would be fat.  In other words if we could just take a pill and it made a difference we'd all be doing it.  Learn how to eat right, exercise, and the weight will take care of itself.

I don't believe in them. I don't even believe in most vitamin supplements. Not that they should never be used, there are medical conditions and people who are lacking in certain areas that may benefit but for a normal healthy person it is best to get your nutrition from food. You can eat correctly to aid your body in burning calories and fat more efficiently. Clean/balanced eating is key. Building muscle and doing cardio that gets your heart rate up are the successful ways to burn fat and calories. The more muscle you have the more calories and fat you burn. So lift hard and heavy 3 days a week. Try some HIIT 2 days a week and other heart pumping cardio 4 days a week.

There are studies that have been done that show the health benefits of hot peppers and some studies suggest they aid in weight loss and help to speed your metabolism. Not sure if that is true but I do believe in the health benefits of hot peppers. I eat them raw in my salad at lunch. There is a chemical in hot peppers called Capsaicin. The hotter the pepper the more Capsaicin it has.

Capsaicin has been shown useful in treating heart disease, arthritis and other types of inflammation, stomach disorders, blood disorders, weight loss. Studies are currently being done on the effectiveness of Capsaicin and treating/preventing some types of cancer.

Omega is also a very good supplement. You can get this naturally from foods like tuna, salmon, fish, nuts, soybeans, squash, olive oil and leafy green vegetables. If you eat salad it is a good idea to use olive oil because it has been shown that adding some good fats to your vegetables help the body to better absorb all of the nutrients in the foods.

Drinking water is also beneficial in weight/fat loss. Also helps to break down your food and  help it to digest better.

So there is no magic pill or supplement that will burn the fat off of your body but your diet and how you exercise will work. None of it can be done without will power and commitment and making a life style change. "Diets" don't work. Changing your diet does.

Lifting weights.

"Fat burners"  Should be used more as aids.. maybe tools....  to help you along the way.  Some are better then others, some are safer then others. All, will only work as well as you do.

I work at a health food store , something like a GNC.  If there was a magic pill out there, I would be skinny.

Some slimming pills contain harmful/drugs but the majority of them on the market are safe and very helpful for slimming. You have to look around for the ones that have very few ingredients. The best one that I have tried is the Sida Cordifolia - it works as an appetite suppressant. I was eating a lot less then what I do normally. I lost quite a few inches during the full course. But you have to be careful of what you chose to use lol x

Sida Cordifolia is basically a caffeine pill with a fancy name.  It might work, probably does, but make sure you know what you are putting into your body.  The best appetite suppressent is a well rounded, whole food diet, that will make you feel fuller, longer and reduce or eliminate undeniable cravings for sugar, salt, white flour etc.   As a lifelong food junkie, I can attest to this first hand.

CLA has helped me. (by about 5 pounds) Right now I am taking slimquick( but I never take the full dose as I am sensetive to caffiene)I've lost 4 pounds in the last week(with diet and exercise of course) But there are alot of natural fat burners. Anything spicy helps. I hear green algae and seaweed are good for the metabolism.

Here are some reviews I found if you are intent on using a supplement:

There are some substances that have been shown to have an affect on the metabolism at high doses (hot peppers, green tea, etc) but the effect is tiny and unless your actively trying to throw money away they aren't close to being worth it.

Say you eat right and exercise for a year and lose 50lbs, if you had been taking all these 'natural fat burners' for the entire time your weight loss might have been 1 or 2% higher (meaning an extra 0.5 - 1 pound).

Waste of money.  They don't really burn fat.  They give you more energy to push harder.  If you need an extra boost drink coffee before you workout.

I agree. When I did my "cut" cycle I was gunning for the energy to keep up with all the cardio/Hiit. I took NitroPump by Met-Rx. I found it helped keep me pumped and energized when my food intake was so low and my carbs were depleted. I needed the boost. Espresso w/ a little milk does the trick too. Another thing I looked into and found helped was a mix of these: T3 Thryoid support, Chromium, Alpha Lipoic Acid, and Cinnamon. Helped me drop about 15 lbs and close to 5% body fat in 6 weeks (obviously, it's only a temp weight loss for show/photos)

I don't think appetite supressants are so good... idk, something fishy about that. Water loss isn't right either so beware of diuretics.

Lastly, good luck :)
