So i've noticed that most fat-free foods have a lot of additives in it whereas the regular version is made with natural ingredients only (e.g. fat-free cottage cheese vs. regular cottage cheese). if i am going to eat the same portion of these foods regardless, which version do you guys think would be a healthier choice?
I try to get low-fat options because I think it's a nice balance. But when given only full fat or fat free choices I usually pick fat free for things like yogurt or cheese because I would rather get my fat from peanut butter or something else I love or eat more of so I want the full delicious taste.

Actually fat-free cottage cheese is very good...shouldn't be any artificial additives in it at all, just skim milk. I like fat-free yogurt, though it has artificial sweeteners in it. Best diet food, though, is natural...lean protein, fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, and plenty of water.
My choice is for low-fat (as long as it doesn't have too much junk in it) or else regular full-fat but in a smaller portion. Fat-free salad dressings are vile. And I can't even imagine what fat-free sour cream would be like!
many fat free things still have a lot of sugar and/or calories. i'm guessing if you are trying to lose weight, you should take that in account. personally, i've always gone with whatever is more natural and gone with a small portion of it. but my focus was on clean eating, not losing weight. i just happened to lose weight as a result.
I tend to eat items with under five ingredients, if processed and store bought.
This is because I inhale enough chemicals in the air from my city. I don't need to eat them as well.
If you have cardiac issues, high cholesterol and/or high triglycerides and your doctor has told you to eat a "low-fat diet" ... by all means, you should do so. (This is my case, by the way.)
Otherwise, you have the freedom to choose full fat, low fat, or fat free food items ... depending on taste and availability ... as long as they fit into your overall healthy eating plan. The nice thing about low fat and non-fat foods is that they are often lower in calorie than their full-fat counterparts, leaving you more calories to "spend" elsewhere. In some cases, the tastes are pretty comparable ... in other cases, the fat free stuff can be downright .... ummm .... "challenging" to enjoy.
That being said, there's really no reason to be drinking Whole Milk these days (unless you have a bonafide medical reason to do so ... or you are seeking to gain/regain weight), when 2%, 1% and skim milk are so readily available. And low-fat salad dressings are getting better and better. I will say, though, that while reduced or low fat cheese isn't bad, some of the fat free cheeses are pretty unappealing, LOL!
Be sure and read labels. Some foods with reduced fat have either increased sugar or increased sodium ... if this matters for your diet, be careful and choose wisely.

I always choose low fat or full fat, never fat free. To me, fat free things are not filling. i can eat a huge quantity of fat free yogurt and not be full, but one little cup of full fat satisfies me. Also, it tastes better so you need less to satisfy a craving.

I usually do low fat as I am only eating 1200 calories a day.....but somethings I would rather not eat then eat fat free or low fat...and If that's the case I just usually don't eat it!
My choice is regular. I'd rather have smaller portions of something that is very tasty and satisfying than larger portions of something less satisfying.
When it comes to milk I have full, I don't eat cheese but I tend to prefer low-fat yogurt and I eat soy icecream just because of my tastes. I generally won't eat fat-free stuff because I don't feel right about how fake it is.
Milk fat free, everything else low fat (if it is mostly pure)
Many Fat free items have junk in them (and lots of sodium) that actually makes it harder for your body to process. I have also read on-line that many artificial sweetners actually tend to stick to you, because your body does not know what to do with them. Think about it, back in the olden days when people lived off the land and only ate from nature, they were all slim 
Besides my body can't tolerate artificial sweetners, I also go by the ingredient rule if you can't pronounce it, or don't know what it is don't buy it.
For me it all depends on what I've tried and liked.
I like low fat sour cream so I go with that. I don't mind some of the FF dressings but their sodium is crazy so I go with the lite instead in most cases. With cheeses, I've tried many of the FF and don't really care for them solo but can tolerate them in sandwiches. I am learning to limit portions of full fat. I found one particular yogurt I like that is FF, otherwise I'd forgo the yogurt.
Except for skim milk - I'll do regular before fat free- usually they add sugars and stuff to foods to make it taste better when they cut the fat out. Sometimes the fat free stuff will actually have more calories too so be sure to read the labels. Also like what was said earlier fat in foods helps keep you feeling fuller.
