Being fat is keeping me from NOT being fat..

lol I had a job interview today somewhat near my apartment so I thought I'd get the exercise and walk. Anyway I was wearing a skirt and walked a mile-ish and because it was hot and my thighs are chubby they rubbed together the entire time so I have awful blisters/rash/chafing/burn that's so painful I can barely walk let alone work out as much as I planned. And I'm sure it'll be this way for a few days! I was doing so well with my exercise. :( Any ideas for cardio that doesn't require, umm...my legs? Or atleast something that will allow my legs to not touch one another. lol

cycling!

try a spandex undergarment like biker shorts.....I'm not even lying as goofus as it sounds....WARNING....biker shorts do cause camel toes so i suggest wearing them under some jogging shorts!.....I did it and it worked wonders on the rubbing and rash thingy

I agree with jarredwayne.  They have some very cute ones at the Sports Authority.  I just bought some that are pink and black.  I would recommend a pair that goes to the knee or just above.  One of my pairs hit me mid thigh and they ride up while exercising which bugs me to extremes!

At places like REI they sell stuff that you rub on your thighs that stop chaffing.  My friend who hikes buys it and swears by it... but I have never actually used it.  Runners put vaseline on their thighs but I don't think I would like the feel of that.

Baby powder will help with the rash you already have.  I use to have enormous boobs and they would chaff there in the summer from the heat and moisture... and baby powder was a savior.

Thanks guys, good suggestions. Now I'm wondering what will help it heal most quickly. I just put aloe vera gel on it since it's the only thing I have around and it is burnlike, figure it can't hurt. You get strange looks having to waddle around with your legs spread widely. :/

I love the title of your thread! That place you went to for an interview - were they looking to hire a philosopher by any chance? =p

This stuff rocks, Monistat Soothing Care Chafing Relief: http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pi d=139254&catid=26832

There's some stuff called bodyglide that goes on like a deodorant stick to prevent chaffing. I don't think it does much after the fact though, but it may help for future reference. I think you can get it at most sporting goods stores. Bicycle-type shorts also work like a charm.

The most helpful product I've ever encountered is MONISTAT® Soothing Care™ Chafing Relief Powder-Gel.  It is a dream in a bottle especially for "Chub Rub"!

if you wear some spanx type thing (or even cut some hose to above your knee, they will not rub together and you won't feel them while you heal.  I tend to just use powder to keep it smooth.

Thanks guys, definitely buying the Monistat Chafing Relief stuff tonight, it heals as well as prevents? And I will NOT be walking another mile and a half in a skirt(or heels for that matter)again anytime soon, lol. Not until there's no more chub to rub!

Try Goldbond.  They make a cream and a powder.

I also love this stuff it makes any chafing feel so much better!! If you have a body ball you could do abs on it, some weights, and maybe push ups?

You might try diaper rash ointment on the chaffed area. I've used it in the past, and found relief.

Tea Tree oil will heal your burns and blisters.  Now..I will warn you it burns but it helps heal burns quickly. Plus TTO is a medicine cabinet in a bottle so you can use for your burn, blisters, warts, fungus, dandruff, acne, ect.

omg...i used to get that really bad when i wore my school uniform...i had to start wearing tights..even in summer :o/

i used to wear very baggy wide leg jeans to cover up my big thighs...but when i walked along for a bit they would all bunch up around the crotch!!

i have lost a bit now and i wear slimmer fitting jeans, my thighs are still touching and the denim wears away very quickly though!!

just keep at it, the more you move in your cycle shorts the less it will be a problem :)

I purchased a pair of Spanx (shorts style) about 5 1/2 years ago.  They were $25 and have held up well.  I continue to use the same pair whenever I wear a skirt and they work perfect to avoid the rubbing issue.  Target now also sells something similar; I think the brand name is "Assets".

Yeah that sucks!  I had that same problem when I started, and one of my goals was to have my thighs not touch anymore.  Maybe try riding a bike till your thighs have time to heal.

Best of luck with the job interview!!!!  If you get it, I suggest you walk every day.  It does wonders for your mental health ;)  I lived in Boston for years and walked to and from work every day - about 4 miles round trip.  The time on the way home gave me time to shift from work mode to not lesure mode ;) It was a job at an insurance company so I had to dress up.  When I wore skirts I always wore something under it - hose or biking shorts.  You can always take them off when you get to work.  As far as the shoes go, I just brought the dress shoes in a bag and wore sneakers walking.  I'm now up in the suburbs teaching, The city I teach in isn't necessarily the safest place to walk at 5:30 in the morning so I tend to walk much and really miss it!!
