Weight Loss

Ive read in the past that all sorts of toxins are stored in fat, and as its lost those toxins are released.
Just wondering if this is true...and possibly contributing to my extra emoness lately.
Should I being doing something to counteract this? Usually get a massage like once a month and my massage therapist always reminds me to soak with epsom salts and baking powder to facilitate toxin elimination. But Im unclear on how in the world that could work!
I wouldnt consider doing any of those crazy fasts that aim for toxin elimination, but other ideas/thoughts on the subject would be appreciated!

That's a good question, Christy - I would be interested in an answer to it.
I have also read that there are fat-soluble toxins that can accumulate (just like there are fat-soluble vitamins, etc.) I assume, however, that once the fat (and whatever's in it) is released into the bloodstream for energy, the liver can take care of these things pretty well. But I am not an expert by any means.
Does anyone have a link that might shed light on this?

Trix is right in that the liver breaks down the fat (and any toxins in it) before it is released for energy.
One of the best things you can do to facilitate both the breaking down of fat, and elimination of toxins is to drink a lot of water. This takes the pressure off your liver, as if you're drinking enough water the kidneys are able to properly filter out toxins. If you don't get enough water, then your kidneys don't function at their optimum, and your liver ends up having to do their work as well, which results in less fat-breakdown.
This might be way off the mark, but it is what I've been told. So, yet another reason to drink lots of water!

I have been drinking green tea. I have told it helps detoxify our bodiees. I like it alot but it may all the water I drink with it is ehat helps the most. I drink two 16oz glasses of it a day on top of 64 oz of water.
Your fat only releases toxins if you've been exposed to toxins from your environment and/or foods.
I got this information from my doctor, as she just put me on a supplement to help support my liver for 'detox' reasons. But if you have medical concerns relating to your body's ability to function properly, you should definitely see a doctor yourself.
- Massage is a good way to help your body eliminate them and why they always tell you to drink a lot of water after a massage.
- Water exercise helps too, because of the pressure of the water. Other exercise will help also... anything that gets your lymphatic system going.
- Making sure that you wash your fruits and veggies well will help prevent toxins from getting into your body to begin with.
- Avoiding hormone-laden meat will help.
- Getting plenty of fiber and/or taking a spoonful of metamucil at bedtime will help eliminate whatever has been processed that day and is waiting in your gut for elimination (helps it not be reabsorbed).

People are on and on about toxins right now, detoxing, all that. It's the newest thing!
I wouldn't worry too much about toxins in your body. Unless you drink like a fish, eat nothing but processed foods, and shoot heroin every day, your body has been dealing with its own detoxing just fine. Your liver, kidneys, lungs, skin, lymphatic system, et al, do an excellent job of filtering you.
Definitely water, drink water. But don't stress too much. Culturally, we're all obcessed with water and detoxifying ourselves.
Slightly OT - I wonder why that is? Could it be that we, as humans, finally realize what a poisonous world we're living in?

Thanks for the answers everyone!
I dont drink anything other than water, and a ton of it! So thats good :)
And yes, I know green tea (especically taken 30 min before a workout) is supposed to help your body eliminate free radicals. I try to take other antioxident rich supplements (and real food).

Trillions of biochemical reactions go on in the body, anabolic (building up) and catabolic (breaking down) processes, and in many of the catabolic processes, molecules breakdown into components that are toxic in certain amounts to the human body. Lipolysis (breakdown of fat stored in fat cells) is not exempt from this, but that's what our liver, kidneys, and lower GI tract is for, to flush them out. Just drink a lot of water to help things along.
