Where does the fat come off first? Second, and last?

Quote  |  Reply

Newbie here.  I'm not overweight, but the typical person looking to lose 10 pounds as I've reached 40 years of age and in a years time went from a weight of 122 to 132.  I want to lose the 10 pounds and maybe a few extra to put me back to the weight of my 20s about 118.

I have a bit of tummy fat (it's more on the hip area), muffin top but nothing major.  I have a bit of back fat/bra fat, that's very slight, and only noticeable with say a work-out top that's a tight fit.

My boobs, I'd love to lose a bit.  In the last 5 years they've seemed to get a bit larger, and I'm not into it.

Question?  Where does fat come off first.  I've read so much about the fat burning off from 1200 calorie diets and lots of exercise, but not much reading about the fat and how it comes off.

Is it gradual, and does the fat come off all areas of the body at the same time.  Or is it more likely that the fat reserves are burned off in the tummy area first, then the back area, then the bust area?  Is there any rhyme or reason to where the fat comes off first?  Have studies been done to see where people tend to lose the fat first when dieting and exercising, or is it a crap shoot and some people lose it in the waist first while others lose it in the chest?

THank

I lost 20 lbs. off my bottom half almost exclusively to go from a slight pear to an hourglass. That's where I gain and that's where I lose. My top half really never changes: I remain a 32C/XS regardless (though at 5' 3 1/2" I've never weighed more than 129, so I don't know what might happen at a higher weight).

It all depends on the individual.

Fat deposits are like the FIFO LIFO method of accounting:

Last  In First Out.

Edit: It's been awhile since I took accounting.

That's not the way it has ever been for me. I gain from the waist down and lose from the waist down (though, as I say, I've never gained enough to end up larger all over). I don't think there are any hard and fast rules about how weight is lost. Top down, bottom up, first on/last off, last on/first off, all-over loss.... None of these are absolutes.

I was taught in high school health class that the fat would come off first from the last place you put it on.  It was during the lesson about how you can't really spot reduce.

As for me, I've never exclusively gained in one spot or exclusively lost in one spot.  My arms, ass, thighs, hips, belly, breasts, back, fingers, and every other part of my body seems to gain and lose together.

I already lost about 25 pounds and it seemed to come off my butt and chin (now I have a smaller double chin.)  I haven't noticed anywhere else yet.  But from what I've heard, I'm afraid of losing my boobs!  I like them just the way they are.
