I recently lost a half stone and I can tell you that I was waiting untill almost the last week untill I saw weight coming off my legs and bum, but apparently everyone looses from different places at different times.

One thing that was suggested to me after I had lost the weight, which I wished I had tried was to wrap black plastic bags around your legs and bum when your exercising and also try wearing a pair of shorts or hot pants under your training clothes; its obviously more uncomfortable but apparently the idea is to make your bum and thighs hotter while exercising and sweat more from that area. Then the weught should come off faster.

Like I said I havnt tried it, it was suggested to me, but its worth a go!

Good Luck xxx

Umm...definitely don't try exercising with plastic bags wrapped around you. Yes it will make you sweat more, but you will not burn any more fat. In fact, it is slightly dangerous since it puts you at risk of dehydration and hyperthermia.

A safe rate of weight loss is around 1% of your body weight/week. So, if you weigh 150 lbs (for example), you will not lose more than 1.5 lbs/week at the most.

Bingegirl, how long until you are going oversees, and what are your stats? (height, weight, age, level of activity, etc)

Unfortunately, we don't get to pick where the fat is taken from when our bodies burn it.  Your body will get rid of fat in the order it deems is best, not the order you necessarily want it to.  But, as annoying as that is, take heart that you have a healthy body shape.  It sounds like you're pear shaped -- you store fat in your thighs, hips, and butt, which puts you at a lower risk for things like heart disease and type II diabetes.

Start jogging! It took me about a month before I noticed anything at all, but then I could see a difference on the scale every morning, which just motivated me to continue. And I lost a lot of it from the thighs.

It is also a great way to see a new country/city and you don't have to work so hard, just start with 20 min slow jogging and increase when you feel ready for it. Don't forget the Ipod.

If you are going to Europe you are likely to lose quite a bit from just adapting the eating habits and have great healthy food.

Good luck!

i definately second the jogging idea. i have found that its the most effective form of cardio for decreasing body fat% relatively quickly.

also i would suggest weighted squats. while this definately won't help make the area "smaller" it will help lift your butt and give it more definition.

well Im 162 cm/5'4" and I weigh around 52kg/115lbs i want to get down to 46-48kg/106lbs

that already sounds like a relatively low weight for you. because of this i suspect that the reason you are unhappy with your body stems more from lack of muscle tone rather than the number of the scales. perhaps skinny fat? if so weight lifting is definately the way forward for you. lift 3-4 times a week, 8-10 reps, 3 sets on each exercise, heavy as you can lift.

I appreciate your reply and I can see why you may think that but actually its quite the opposite since the begining of the year I've been doing cardio to lose weight and consequently gained alot of muscle on my legs so if you have any suggestions to slim down that would be really good. thanks for replying to my forumSmile
