Fat Thighs!Help?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi, I'm Sierra and I'm 5'2 1/2. I weigh 105 pounds. I've noticed that I wear a medium loosely (according to aeropostale) but a small fits nicely too. I have a little belly that sticks out slightly maybe an inch but summer always takes care of thatSmile. What I worry about is my thighs and legs. They seem to be covered in a fatty substance and sag and such. I still wear a 0-1 but it's troublesome seeing as I have the same top size as some of those "skinny girls" but look bigger because of my legs! Anyone know any exercise I could do to avoid and/or eliminate this?I don't own a mini trampoline, sorry to that, for its the only thing I know of. I've been doing some Denise Austin tapes (yes I'm not going to buy new ones) and I don't know if this will help or make them even fatter? Okay, that sounds dumb, but really I just want to know if any exercise/foods will help me lose the fat there especially? Because I also read you shouldn't focus on one part..

Ai! There is too much to do!

based on the tone of this post, you sound like a teenager.. a young teenager.

what you need to do is get off this site.. you obviously don't need to lose weight if you're already borderline underweight and too young to be dieting... and you are just creating problems and body confusion in your mind that doesn't really exist

if you fit into a size 0-1 there is no way in hell that you are fat, and some  "larger people" on this site will get rather annoyed and offended by this post...

as for your "fatness", it's primarily genetic... we all carry our weight differently. I'm like you and carry most of my weight through my hips and thighs, this is called being "pear-shaped", the most common and healthiest body types for a woman to be.. as opposed to being "apple shaped" (ie carry your weight in your midsection)

point is, no amount of dieting or excesize is going to change the way your body stores fat... typically the easiest place to gain weight, is the hardest to lose it.

this is how your body is shaped, you are just going to have to live with it

The last posters totally right..try wearing clothes that flatter your shape instead.  Wear flare jeans to balance out your thighs, stay away from skinny leg pants.

oh, from your recent posts it seems that you are 13 YEARS OLD

and want to get down to 90lbs?

imagine that.

look kid, this is how eating disorders start. Get off this site now, before you expose yourself to numerous pyschological and health problems.

you don't need to count calories

you don't need to lose weight

you are not fat

your only 13

your body is growing

respect the fact that you are becoming a woman, and will probably never be 90lbs again healthfully

...

why doesn't CC screen it's members?? I'm so sick of posts like these

I agree with Carmen 100 percent...you are heading down the wrong road, and nobody on CC is going to condone that. At your age you need to be gaining weight...unless you want to look like a small child for the rest of your life and never be able to have children? This is exactly how most eating disorders in teenagers start.

Here's the dealio sierra. Being 13, your body is going to grow. You're going to weigh more as you get taller and you get some curves. If I were you, I'd stop weighing yourself all together if you're actually concerned about it. You will probably never weigh 90 pounds and healthily maintain it as an adult.

Size 0-1 pants? I wear a size 10-14 pants (depending on brand.) And I don't even consider my thighs to be fat, just average ol' thighs. They're going to have fat on them. That's just the way thighs are. No one is looking at your thighs and saying "ZOMG BIGGEST THIGHS EVARRRR!!!" they probably just see them as regular proportional thighs.

I think what you need is self-esteem. CC does not help that very much at all. You don't need to lose any more weight. Eat healthy, listen to your body, exercise 30-60 minutes a day, get a book from the library on improving your self-esteem, and enjoy life. I wish someone would've given me that advice when I was 12-13.

I have the same problem. I am skinny in the stomach, and fat on the theighs. I know I am still growing and what not. As Bucketwithapurpose said.. people aren't saying XOMG BIGGEST THEIGHS EVAARRR! well, uh people make fun of me when I wear shorts.. so I really need some diet to at least lose a little fat in the spot, and that spot only. I wear a size 2-4 when most of my friends arent even in woman sizes yet... so I know some of these people are saying "You are just a kid" Well guess what? i don't care. i want to lose weight in my theighs, thats MY desicion. If you find a weightloss diet for this, could you let me know? Thanks.

Thank you for the only post that wasn't telling me to leave! I really just wanted to know an exercise...I guess some people have very strong opinions! Perhaps we can be buddys and try and help eachother! I guess ill just go to google and search there... I just trusted people here a bit more!

Hey, I have the same problem... the elliptical is my best friend ;) Also good are squats (hold light freeweights in each hand if you want), lunges (try doing them backwards, too), leg lifts, etc. Strength training and cardio machines that target your legs (think stair stepper) are great in general. Unfortunately, due to genetics, my legs haven't gotten any smaller - however they have toned up quite nicely :) Still working on it, though...

you know what little girls, I want YOU to go up to your parents right now and tell them all about your plans of losing 15lbs and dieting.

it is YOUR decision after all, right? well I am sure that they will be very pleased that you are being independent and responsible and are able to make such important decisions all on your own.

these posts arn't ignorant at all

Undecided

god, I hope you destroy your bodies, and have self esteem and self hatred issues for the rest of your lives...

when I was 13 I wished I could gain weight so that I could have boobs and be beaufitul like the rest of the pretty developed girls at my school

it's disgusting what the world is becoming

I don't know what the hell your problem is, but if you have one with us girls having a theigh dilemma, then stop returning to this thread. If you dont' care so damn much, and hope all the ignorant ****, then stop returning to this thread. I have so much to say to you that involves not returning to this thread. I am sorry, but you say this isn't ignorant, like what the hell, it is COMPLETELY. My parents know, and they think I shouldn't really be losing weight, I asked them honestly and they said a little bit, but only on the theighs. I agreed, and they said it was my choice. So why don't you get your **** facts straight before you start calling us little girl and some **** like that. Mind you business, and if you have such a problem stop looking at this thread. Alright? Okay.

my problem is constantly seeing all these young teenagers so influenced by the media and their peers that they resort to extreme dieting and exersize to lose the "fat" that is all in their head

you know what? I HAVE HAD EATING DISORDERS.. quite a few actually, and am still struggling to find balance. I don't normally respond to these posts because I find them TRIGGERING, but everyonce in a while one breaks through where I feel the need to say something.

because despite you saying that you are "not ignorant" you truly are. You are still so young, you don't know everything. You don't know what is good or bad for you. You have an idea, but yet your own ego interfers with your health.

I am still young, I don't know everything.. but I'm telling you what I do know. I know how eating disorders start, I know the signs, the symptoms... and becoming obsessed with tiny body "flaws" and subscribing to diet websites when there are no need to put up red flags in my eyes.

no one in their right mind would tell a 105lb 13 year old to lose weight... maybe if this girl was OVERWEIGHT, but she's not. She is creating problems and disorted images in her head, which just leads to low self esteem.

she doesn't need to lose weight, she doesn't need a weight loss "buddy". what she needs to do is get off this site, stop comparing herself to celebrities and 12 year old pre-adolescent girls, and except the fact that she is becoming a woman.

when you hit puberty you are going to gain some weight, you are going to get breasts and thighs and hips, it's called BEING A WOMAN. I'm sorry that you were not born to have the body of a 10 year old boy, but you are going to have to except it, and learn to respect your body for what it is and not what it isn't.

I am not the one with the problem.

stop with this psycho bantering and re-evaluate your priorites..

No, my issue is you responding to me. For you information, My BMI is only 1.5 off of being overweight for my age group, so I figure that I need to lose a little weight while I can before I get too old, and a little overweight that it's too hard to lose weight. So, my main problem is your respond to ME. I am not 105. I am 125. I find that a little overweight for my age, and I only want to lose 10 pounds. I mean really. It's not like I am rushing my goal and I want to do it within a day or two. I know that's impossible but I mean really. I am taking time. I put July 12th because that's my birthday, but honestly, I don't care if it takes years, I just want to get there.

Well, none of you may know this, but I have stated that 90 pounds is an unreachable weight. I'm not that idiotic, thank you. I will not have an eating disorder. It's not good because you just loose water weight and structural fat. What I worry about is that in the couple days I have gained 10 pounds. I emotionally eat, eat  more than I should, and barely exercise. Even my own mother told me that she thinks I eat too much! Both of my parents (especially my dad) want me to get involved in sports. I will be joining track in the fall. Now, this is obviously going to make my thighs bigger with muscle. I find this good, for thigh size doesn't matter, I just want to be healthy. I have an incredibly low metabolism for anything physical, but I have a high sitting metabolism.

I know I will become a woman. I get that. What I don't get is you saying, without knowing anything about me, that I have an eating disorder and will cause problems in the long run. I have been eating the right amount currently, 1500 calories a day. Actually, I don't know, I don't count calories. I just need more exercise. What problem with eating healthy and exercising is this?

Lastly, I just wanted an exercise that is good for thighs. Please respect that. I can't just trust any random site on the web, so if anyone wants to stop arguing and give me it I'll be glad to take it and leave. I have lots of fat and muscle, and my bmi is at the 73rd percentile. To be at risk of being underweight, your bmi must be below the 5th percentile. But I'm sure you all know that. I'm always wrong on here, and yelled at a lot.

Thank you, the_kats_meow, I will be sure to try that. My brother goes to a gym for basketball and my parents want me involved in something, so they suggested machines. Thank you for the advice.

Hi Sierrax,

It sounds to me that you are trying to be health conscious. Someone had mentioned good leg exercises that might help you (squats, lunges, leg lifts, etc.) Another exercise that might help you to tone your thighs is using an exercise ball. If you do crunches or leg lifts while lying on your back, try sqeezing an exercise ball between your knees and/or your ankles. This will help you tone your thighs as you work your abs. I suggest talking with your pediatrician about your goals, also it wouldn't hurt to speak with your gym teachers or if your parents can get you in touch with a personal trainer about the proper way to do the exercises so that you do not overly strain your body.

Just a word of caution that the more exercise you do, make sure you make up for it with increasing your calories (but with healthy foods, not junk.) I'm a mother of a 12 year old who is a little bit overweight, and I stress to her about making healthy decisions (I do not want her focusing on weight but on overall good healthy behaviors.) I think if you are more focused on just being healthy - and that means all aspects of your life with ensuring you get exercise, eating well balanced meals, and getting enough rest so that you do not overdue it, then you are headed on the right path to adulthood.

On a side note you mentioned you expect your thighs to get bigger when you take track in the fall...women's bodies do not bulk up in the same way men's bodies do.

if you look at the tools on CC you should be able to see that there is an excersise section and if you click on it you wil find all types of thing and excersises some even for thighs specifically.

The only reason people get so mad that young people, barely teenagers, are trying to lose weight is because there are way to many kids with eating disorders and they listen to other dumb kids about how teenagers should look. just make sure if you are going to excersise you are eating the proper ammount of food and not starving yourself. staying active is healthy but not if you arent getting the nutrition your body needs.

just keep your health in mind and not what you see in the mirror

keep in mind that this girl wants to weigh 90lbs...

careful of who you give 'advice' to

It's called "motivation". Imagine seeing yourself 20 pounds less. Doesn't that give you a want to go out, exercise, and just get fit? I have in the past stated " I know this is impossible, but it helps motivate me". Just like when people put their head on a morbidly obese person. I find that somewhat strange but that helps them exercise too apparently.

setting unrealistic goals isn't motivation.. it's detrimental and distorted.

when obese people imagine themselves smaller, their goal is usually a healthy weight within an attainable range. Obese people don't imagine themselves looking like a starved child in africa.. and neither should you.

I am the same about the same height and weight as you and I am perfectly happy here. I am thin, but no "omg gross" thin... when I was 90lbs I was disgustingly thin and everyone knew that I had eating and weight issues... do you want that?

I find it offensive and triggering when ignorant, nieve little girls like yourself post this BS...

we (ie me and you) are at low but healthy weights for our height, and we do not need to lose anymore. Sometimes I think that I am even too thin here as my ribs and hipbones still stick out, and I wear a size 0... I don't think that I am fat, and neither should you.

I workout to build muscle and lose fat.. not necessarily weight. Right now I wear the same sizes and have the same measurements, if not smaller measurements then I did when I was 10-15lbs lighter... muscle weighs more then fat but takes up less space.

but regardless, you shouldn't be trying to diet.. let your body grow, these should be some of the best years of your life. Go out and enjoy being young. I wasted so much of my own youth destroyed by self hating thoughts, and I hate to see others follow the same path I did.

Hey Sierrax,

I am a little concerned as others on this site have been that you are still growing and yet wish to lose weight.  I definitely understand the desire to look good, but one of the most important things I have learned on my journey to a healthier body is that looking good doesn't mean being skinny, and being skinny doesn't mean you look good. It's all about making healthy choices, like eating baked instead of fried chips, and going for a walk with your friends instead of watching TV.  Your body has a healthy weight that it needs to be at to function, and since your body is not yet fully physically mature, that healthy weight will change.  Food is fuel for your body; if you put healthy foods in, you will be healthy inside and out.

I do understand that setting a crazy goal that you know you'll never reach can help with motivation (having done it before), but that crazy goal might drive you crazy.  Instead, I would re-evaluate your goals and see what is best for your health.  I'm willing to bet that if you worked on eating a healthy diet that has enough calories to fuel bone and muscle development and are active at the same time, you will look and feel great.  I have learned that dieting and losing weight don't necessarily mean you will look great, and you certainly won't feel great if you become underweight.

I weigh around an average of 130 pounds, but because I am active and have an athletic body, people think I weigh a lot less.  It's also a lot easier to enjoy life when your body is fit, and instead of worrying about "Oh, no, I went 100 calories over what this diet recommends!" you will be able to say, "Well, I splurged a little today, but a good game of soccer will take care of that.  Besides, my muscles need calories!"

Sometimes I do worry that I'm not a size 5, but then it's important to remember that Hollywood is unrealistic in pretty much everything it endorses.

Anyhow, a lot of things will help tone up your thighs, which may not make them weigh any less but will make them look like they do.  Most activities that involve running work well, as does skateboarding, rollerblading, and horseback riding.  Yoga and martial arts work well, too.

In short, my words of wisdom to you are to be active, enjoy healthy meals, and enjoy life!  Smile
