Favorite bars (not for drinking hahaha)
So one of my big things when it comes to eating are bars...there are so many out there, they are quick to grab on the go, are tasty, and on the lower end as far as cals are concerned....
so what are your favorite granola/cereal/energy/other bars to eat?
I personally love Luna Bars before agood workout and I don't know why, but I am a HUGE fan of cereal bars like NutriGrain bars or Kashi's newer soft cereal bars for 110 calories....
when I want more of a dessert thing I like Kudos bars yum and also those pop tart to go one'
Used to love the Pria chocolate/pb bars, but the local store started stocking only the vile vanilla ones so I've ditched those.
Now I usually pop a Fiber One choc+pb bar for breakfast, with a bit of tea. Not a huge brekkie eater, but I've started forcing myself to eat something before I do resistance training so I don't feel like I'm going to hurl halfway through my deadlifts. ![]()
I have a thing for Soyjoys. They seem to have a bad reputation, and their stats really aren't all that impressive. I just have a soft spot in my heart for them! They make me happier than any other bar.
The first time I had it was years ago, they gave them to us after finishing a 5k - my first 5k ever. So maybe that's why they're special.
Chocolate Peppermint Stick Luna Bars and strawberry & vanilla Special K bars!<33!
I tried some of the other Luna Bars but I thought they were kinda nasty. =/ The chocolate raspberry one was a huge disappointment. =[ hahah
I only eat LUNA for desserts. Clif, and Safeway and most others have too much sugar in them... anything over 5g and I put it back. lol. I like Universal Nutritions CarbRite Bars... taste amazing and I have no worries about sugar intake (zero sugars). Close in price to LUNA at $15.95/box of 12 (when I get em online anyhow). I also love the pure protein bars in chocoPB and the mini Met-Rx bars in choc chunk. :) Yum!

LMAO! They are totally nutritionally void as far as healthy protein type bars go but I know what you mean... I buy them just for "the cause" lol...
Oh yeah - and South Beach Meal Replacement bars are DELICIOUS. Even the snack bars are tasty. WAY less sugar than Luna or Cliff bars.
My favourite at the moment ould have to be the Alpen Light chocolate and orange bars, they taste just like terrys chocolate orange and are a fab pick at under 70kcals per bar
These are my favorites:
Luna bars-blueberry crumble, choc. peppermint stick, nuts n' cranberry, strawberry crumble, dulce de leche, and chocolate cookie.
Pure Protein bars-peanut butter, chocolate chip, chocolate deluxe
Clif Z bars-blueberry
Kashi crunchy bars
Quaker True delights-coconut banana
South beach-cinnamon raisin, chocolate

Me too.. I like South Beach Meal bars, my favorites are Chocolate Fudge and Cinnamon Creme.. definitely less sugar but high in proteins so it gives more energy. Has anyone tried their new bars the Mocha and S'mores? It's their new fiber bars, they have more fiber than most fiber bars out there and no high fructose corn syrup. worth to try.. :)

Snickers are hard to beat.
word. the snickers protein bars are to die for. i eat one almost every day, usually right after the gym. i like that they’re not only tasty but they're sturdy and attackable. i don't feel like i'm eating a pre-pressed portion of rabbit food. you can really sink your teeth into them. *drool*
my emergency go-to bars are the 90 calorie oatmeal raisin quaker chewy granola bars. i'm hypoglycemic so i always have a couple in my purse in case i get dangerously hungry.
I love eating bars for a snack, and I'm thinking about trying to make my own as perhaps an even healthier alternative (at least I know for sure what I put into it!)
Anyone have any good recipes?
ahh i love bars! i at least have one everyday. my favorite brands are clif and lara. some of the kashi and luna ones are pretty good too. the best lara bars (in my opinon) are cinnamon roll, banana bread, pecan pie, and apple pie. the jocolate chocolate one was pretty good too. the best clif flavors are the mojo ones (including the dipped ones), maple nut, pumpkin spice, and gingerbread. i heard they just came out with a new one too! it's white chocolate macademia nut or something like that. i want to try it!
jessuschrist-- i've heard of people making their own larabars. larabars basically only have a few ingredients so they're easy to copy. you should try to look up recipies for those. :)
[edit]- actually, i'm going to post some that i just found---
Sort of like lara bars (there are more recipes on this site if you look at the categories on the left)
I agree with littlemalynda here that a lot of people like bars like Clif and Luna, and while they may market themselves as healthy, the first ingredient is usually SUGAR. Of course it's not called that. It's usually something like organic brown rice syrup or something, but its just really a lot of extra sugar, 20 some grams for Clif bars, not that much fiber at all (for the calories), and not even that much protein (10 g is nothing!). I too only eat them for dessert/treat.
My favorite bars are GNU bars-- they are a good size, only 130 to 140 calories and 50% of your daily fiber, no added sugar at all!
Not my LUNA bars. I just grabbed one out of my desk drawer and the first ingredient is "proprietary protein blend" - which translates to mean soy (with some oats, rice flour and cocoa mixed in).
But still, check out how much sugar is in it. It's definitely more of a dessert-- all the icing on the top too. It also has very little fiber. My bread has more fiber than Luna bars.

I BOW DOWN TO YOU. I love raw fruit/nut/oat bars, and have been looking for recipes because they cost too much to buy regularly as nice they are. So seriously, THANKYOU. XD

Soy as in "isolated soy protein" which is actually not so healthy for you. Real, good-quality soy protein would come in the form of whole soy (I'm not reffering to SoyJoy here!) such as edamame, tempeh, or fermented tofu.
Sugar is pretty promenient in Luna bars; sorry to say. Doesn't matter if it's in the form of "brown rice syrup" or "high fructose corn syrup". Both are sugar and neither are nessessary.

I make my own "Lara Bars" too! They can be pricey sometimes, so it's nice to have the same product made at home for nearly a fraction of the cost.

About 12 g sugar per bar. Given that it's fine to consume up to 30 g added sugar (i.e. not fruit, milk, etc.) per day, I don't see that as a problem. I eat them for the protein, the yummy dessertness and because they're almost the only bar that leaves me feeling full/satisfied. I get a ton of fibre from the rest of my diet so that part really doesn't concern me.
It all comes down to personal taste, and what you're looking to get from a bar. Luna bars work for me; Lara bars don't. Lara bars work for you; Luna bars don't. So, we each enjoy what we enjoy and leave the alternative at the store for someone else to enjoy. Deal? ![]()

Haha ok. I don't really like Lara bars though.
Yeah I know. I am kind of a freak in the way that EVERYTHING I eat has to have the most fiber/protein and least sugar, blah blah blah for the least calories. I read labels like mad.
