Favorite Book? Or author?
There's a thread on here about most-hated books. In an attempt to be more optimistic, here's a thread about favorite books.
I'll start! My favorite book is Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami. At the moment, he is my favorite author.
(But as far as escapist pleasure goes, I love Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke. And I've read all of the Lord of the Rings books about six times.)
Lots of my favorites are already listed (esp. Jane Austen and Tolkien and Robertson Davies). One of my favorites that no one mentioned is anything by Ursula K. LeGuin with the Left Hand of Darkness and the Earthsea trilogy up towards the top.
J.K. Rowling, all Harry Potter books.
Plus these two incredibly good, fan written, Harry Potter novel.

The Stand is my favorie SK book of all time. My favorite book over al is a tie betwen "Earth Abides" by George Stewart and "Kingdom of the Walls" by Robert Silverberg>
