Favorite Food for Bingin'

Blach - I just ate a WHOLE far of pickles following my tomato soup and grilled cheese dinner.

Argh.  Ever since I was a little kid, I've had this affinity for pickles!  Now I feel sick to my stomach.

Haha, anyone else ever do this kind of thing?

I'm also this way with celery and tomatoes.

I just can't get enough of 'em!

I have low blood pressure, so I guess the sodium is good for me.

By the way I HAD A BINGE EATING DISORDER and I lost my job and it RUINED MONTHS of my life!!!!!!!!!!

This post did not offend me, I do not feel I have to explain the true nature of the disorder to EVERY person who uses the word “ binge” I am not some police women who needs to go around making sure that every one knows how serious the disorder is!

Binge eating is a serious disorder, but some people chose to use the word binge to describe a “ blow out” when they eat extra cookies or a large packet of chips; the FACT is, we will NEVER be able to make sure EVERY ONE understands the true meaning of the word, so why bother getting offended when there will always be people who use the word binge in this context?

It is pointless getting caught up because we will never be able to educate every one about the true nature of binge eating, and there will ALWAYS be people who use the term in a way that binge eaters do not identify with.

... can we forget i said anything? i have smacked puppy syndrome now! xx

Hehe it’s ok Mashed Tatties!

I used to be REALLY sensitive , I felt I had to tell EVERY one who mentioned the word binge” what the true disorder was and to make sure EVERY ONE knew the difference and to not throw” the term around!

I was honestly so fired up about posts like this but now I have relaxed because I do not enjoy wasting my time making sure every one says everything correctly!

Some people find it comforting to share foods they have a weak spot for, I enjoy sharing and reading about the different foods we find it hard to control ourselves around!

Weather we ARE binge eaters who have the disorder, or weather we blow out on these foods, I do not care about HOW we over do it, it is the certain foods we “ have too much of” that I find interesting, not the nature of the way we do it!

it's no biggie mashed_tatties! :)

aww, don't have slapped puppy syndrome, we love you.

I can see how this could be offensive, but to me I didn't really view it as such and I read it in more of a more up-beat tone to it, yes? like it was more asking 'what could you live on if you could' sort of question.

no, i think its very disturbing that this child repeatedly posts about over eating zero calorie foods when she is underweight.  i dont think she truly realizes the state of her health and what she thinks is a good go at recovery may not be enough, i think this state of denial is not helping her recovery and that its unfortunate.  ofcourse i realize that she could read this and i hope she does.

cheers guys lol.. have any of you ever seen little britain? you can imagine how crazy i go in the 'fatfighters' sketch.. - 'THAT IS SO INSENSITIVE!!!' only kidding, but yeah, i need to lighten up.

agru are you talking about the OP?

yup

aah well i'm sending a big dose of good vibes out to all who are recovering/recovered from ANY sort of ED... <333333 Feel the love! lol xxx

Does everything have to be taken so seriously?

Is it necessary to take the authors predicament into account? If she wanted to have a laugh about the different foods we are weak for, does her own situation relevant?

Why should her position stop a perfectly fun thread about the foods we over do it on?

If you are concerned about this girls state of health, why can’t you message her privately and explain give her the dose of reality she may need?

A thread is a thread about a certain topic, the state of the authors health could be addressed outside the thread if it concerns you and you want to help her

agru.....i could not agree MORE..this thread is wrong and binging is a seriuos illness and its extemely worring that this poster keep writing these post all the time.. i too have noticed it!

mashed - don't feel bad. i started this.

I'm not going to take back my opinion either. Maybe I was oversenstive but the way it was titled, "Bingin'" really made it seem like it was a fun activity and not a serious horribly thing. Binging has basically ruined my life. Excuse me if I don't want to laugh about which foods I have had the most fun stuffing my face with.

I was also referring to the fact that the OP has done this more than once, and I honestly think it violates CC mission in the way that it promotes unhealthy behavior.

If she has the right to post it, I have the right to be offended by it and state my opinion. I think its wrong, it upset me and I'm darn well going to make sure the OP knows that isn't all fun and games.

I don't care if others aren't offended, but I am. This post is wrong, treating a serious disease like a joke and as I said before if this had something to do with starvation, there would have been an uproar. I'm tired of being told by friends and physcologists that I don't have an ED, because I don't starve, BED is lonely and unrecognized and I don't want to see that continued by treating it as a joke or fun pass times.

I agree that it can sometimes feel better to talk about mistakes made and share with others, but if she'd just titled this thread something different, like Favorite Food to Overindulge in then it would be fine.

But she didn't, and it's not. And I won't say that it's okay and apologize for saying what I had every right to say.

I usually don't really care about the threads here & don't get offended, but I agree that this post is ridiculous, if not offensive.
The OP legitimately thinks that was a binge, which is what's getting me the most. She probably consumed 100 calories MAX.
No. binges involve entire jars of peanut butter & cake & crackers & chocolate, etc. not pickles.

Mashed can take her opinion back, but I maintain that she was right & shouldn't have been made to feel like she was being overly sensitive. Binging is a SERIOUS thing. It's a horrible horrible thing & I don't see how this is any different than talking about how to avoid eating with anorexia.

wow, I'm actually really offended by this post.

Favorite food for Bingin'? Seriously? In case you didn't realize, bingeing is an eating disorder, or a symptom of one. You can not have a 'favorite food' for one. It is not something you plan and do for fun. You're recovering anorexic, how would you like it if I started a post saying, what's your favorite way to eat as little as possible all day? Bad example, but whatever, you get my point.

Also, pickles? Really? I hope your joking. Do you know what a binge is? Call it over eating, loss of control, whatever those are all fine and appropriate but a binge is an incredibly self destructive stuffing of your face that is virtually unstoppable. And I got to tell you, it does not take place on zero calorie pickles alone. That sounds like an anorexic trick to me. Your body's hungry and you are feeding it a freaking jar of pickles. Jesus.

This really pissed me off. I'm a recovering BED/Bulimia sufferer and I just do not want to see a post about a girl who at some freaking pickles and whats to know what is enjoyable for other people to binge on.

Be more sensitive to people around you, especially when you yourself has an ED.

As a matter of fact, I'm a recovering anorexic.  :D

Binge is a verb; not a syndrome.

Get over it.  Everyone binges sometimes.  That doesn't make everyone disorderly.

To explain this post a little more:

I ate a jar of pickles.  I've always loved them a lot and ALWAYS have overeaten them.

I giggled at myself last night when I did that because a few months ago, high-sodium pickles would've been a no-no for me because they'd give me water weight.

I ate them and enjoyed them last night.

I wanted to tell people about my fun little adventure with the pickles, but I thought it would've been weird to just randomly tell everyone that I ate a bunch of pickles.

So I guess I tried to "incorporate" the rest of the CC people by asking what quirky things they can't get enough of.  For my mom, it's brie cheese.  She loves it.

For my sister, it's this peanut dip I make a lot.  For my brother, it's BBQ sauce.  For me, it's pickles.

I originally titled the thread, "Pickles?!" but again, thought it was rude to just talk about myself.

I understand that some people have binging eating disorders, but this wasn't a call to them.  It was a call to the average joe with an affinity for certain foods.

Anyway, I apologize but don't pardon myself for this thread.  I think a lot of people should stop getting defensive about their EDs, and be a little more like, "Yeah, I had one.  It consumed me but I beat it.  Let's find something more fun to talk about," otherwise you're still pretty obsessed with the fact that you had one.

I put myself in the position of my ED and I'm not going to push it onto anyone else.

So there.

Hey, no one should feel they need to apologize,

laren99

you have no reason to need to defend your opinion, we are all here to contribute in any way we like!

Binge eating ruined my life and caused me to lose my job recently, so it IS annoying when people use the term “ binge” without taking what the actual disorder is into consideration.

A more appropriate title would have been better, and I hope the poster has learnt from this experience and will not use the term binge inappropriately again. People make mistakes, we can only learn and move forward from them by acknowledging that we can handle things better in the future.

Bringing up the authors past can be embarrassing for them, I know every one means well, but I am just saying how it comes across to me, when people’s personal details are brought up in front of every one, it can be very embarrassing. I would tell this person privately if I wanted to mention her details.

I had a feeling that that is when you wanted this thread to be about, all the different foods we are funny with!

For my mum it is chips; smiths chips. She will not eat any other brand.

My dad also has to have a bratwursts sausage EVERY time he goes to the local market.

The INTENTION of the thread was fine, a good topic even, and from now on the author will know that using the word binge too freely may get her in to trouble

ED sufferers can have VERY strong feelings about things which is very understandable considering the utter hell we go through, but I think that eventually we cannot go around and get offended every time, we have better things to do with our energy and time!

We need to tolerate people who come across in a way that offends us because of what we went through, a simple explanation to people that will make them learn for next time is enough without personally becoming very offended

So there.

 "So there"?

Goodness. She had a right to be offended, and your response just seems rude.

celery sticks, carrots, and canned corn

Those are my favorite binge foods because they rarely appear in the house. So when there is celery/carrots/corn I go nuts :S

Shrimp, shrimp and more shrimp........I love peel and eat shrimp, I could eat them all day I swear! (well maybe not) But I think it is the only food I have really made myself ill on and still gone back for more.......num num num num. I live in a shrimping town now........look out!!
