I like a big green salad with grilled chicken in it.  Steamed or roasted veggies are pretty good, and also vegetable beef soup.

The fat free is pretty much blahh! When you take the fat out of food...it takes out the taste. I just go ahead and use the reg stuff. But I'm careful to use the serving size or just under. If you're careful about the rest of your intake and watch those calories...I wouldn't be picky about fat free dressings. By using the reg. dressing on my salads...they don't quickly become boring to me and I tend to not stray off the diet.

I feel the same way - fat free is usually pretty awful.  Measure out a portion of regular dressing, or lite dressing and cut it with some flavored vinegar or some raspberry vinagrette so it goes farther.  Another tip I read that I'm going to try is to cut the regular dressing with some salsa to stretch it.

And If I grill chicken and veggies to go on top of the salad, it will tend to make its own dressing as I mix it all together, because of the small amount of olive oil I use in the grilling.

The whole key is measured portions and knowing how many calories you are eating, no matter what you eat!

I can highly recommend Galeos dressing.  You must look for it on the internet and mailorder it as they do not have very wide distribution.  Pricey that way but worth it.  I learned about this dressing from reading something from one of the Biggest Loser's web posts.   The calorie count ranges from 25 to 40 for 2 Tb.  Tastes great!

What other foods have you all encountered?

Will definitely look for Galeos!

Usually I just do a homemade mix of a little olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic and ground black pepper. Sometimes a dash of lemon juice. At least olive oil is a good fat.

3 Favorite low cal foods -

1. balsamic vinegar/garlic marinated portobello mushrooms grilled with the steak for fajitas. I leave most of the steak for everyone else and use mostly the portobello and one piece of steak, no cheese, and a load of salsa to make the fajita. The only not so good thing is the tortilla, but the other stuff should cancel out those calories pretty quick. Even my husband has started cutting his steak in half and adding the portobello.

2. nuked sweet potato - nuke the little guy til super soft and the juices start to form, no additives nec, but a tiny bit of butter or pecans is tasty. Great for a work lunch as you can nuke the thing there.

3. nuked baking potato covered with a huge pile of salsa and a pinch of sharp cheddar

ok, I'm hungry now, gotta go make dinner...

Hello,

I also don't eat diet foods. I snack often on popcorn because I can eat an entire big bowl of it. I was just thinking how good it would be if I sprinkled it with Parmesan cheese.

You all are making me hungry...suppose I should go cook dinner now!

Anyway, my 3 favorite "healthy" foods are:

1.  Red bell pepper (I could eat these like an apple & use them in everything!)

2.  Cantelope

3.  Skinny Cow (vanilla-no sugar added) ice cream sandwiches

Grandmabx3,

My faves are:

1.  Baked potato

2.  Blue bunny low fat frozen treats

3.  Cauliflower.

Now some of you were talking about low cal dressings.  I have been surprised how good Walden's zero calorie dressings are.  They are not as good as the real thing, but for zero calories, they are pretty good.

And you could use them to cut the calories of your full cal dressings in half.  So far I've only tried Bacon Ranch, but I was very impressed.  Next on my list is Dijon Mustard.  They are pricer than Kraft, but worth it.

They have a website where you can buy other zero cal and low cal products.  I'm thinking about trying their zero cal peanut butter spread or zero caloried chocolate syrup.

I have found that olive antipasto is great on salads.  35 calories for 5 I believe!

the antipasto has garlic, chile, olives, red bell pepper, makes a good salad taste great!
