Favorite hikes- Michigan

Quote  |  Reply

Another of my favorite hikes is west of Traverse City, Michigan. It is the Sleeping Bear sand dunes. The hike is titled simply "The dune walk."

To find trailhead, get directions at the visitor center or follow road signs. The walk goes to Lake Michigan crossing seven hills if my memory is correct.

This hike starts with an average looking hill of sand. As you approach the top, however, you'll notice this hill is much higher than it at first appears. This should be a warning that this is not an easy hike. Be prepared for very loose sand while attempting to climb these hills. I recommend bringing water. Keep an eye open for painted signposts showing the way.

If someone could make this short but difficult hike daily for a month, the calories are sure to burn off enough to notice a pleasing weight loss.
