Favorite Lara Bar?
Sorry if I seem really obsessive about these things, but they are just amazing and are pretty much the perfect calorie-dense snack - you could easilly eat two if you needed to do so. I've tried nearly every flavor (see my list below) and I can't pick just one as being "the best".
So what flavor is your favorite? Are there any that you've tried that you don't like? My least favorite is probobly the Cherry Pie, but that's probobly just because I'm not a huge fan of dried cherries. Has anyone tried the Jocolats (chocolate LaraBars)?
Flavors I've had so far...
- Cherry Pie
- Apple Pie
- Cinnamon Roll
- Peanut Butter Cookie
- Banana Bread
- Pistachio
- Ginger Snap
- Pecan Pie
- Lemon Bar
- Chocolate Jocolat (the plain one)
- Cocoa Mole' (LOVE IT!)
The only one I'm NOT planning on trying is the coconut cream pie - seven grams of saturated fat is just too much for one little bar. It's like eating a steak for pete's sake!
Reason: Moved from Weight Gain to Foods.
ooh, that's a toughie. i think i've tried apple pie, cinnamon roll, pecan pie, cashew cookie, lemon bar, chocolate coconut, and cocoa mole. my favorite of these is probably either coca mole or chocolate coconut. my least is lemon bar, but i'm not really a fan of real lemon bars anyway.
i first tried these bars in 10th grade during AIDS Walk LA, where they give out free food and samples along the walk. they had bars that were half the size of the originals and i grabbed a whole bunch. they were SO good. i still love 'em, but i haven't had one in ages.
They sound good, I've never had one nor do I know where to get them.
As for the coconut one, I think you should challenge yourself to eat one.
To put things into perspective, a glass of whole milk (one cup), has 5 grams of saturated fat. And if the saturated fat in the coconut bar comes from, well, coconuts and isn't animal fat, then you'll be fine.
The only reason we hear so much about saturated fat being "bad" is because so many people overdo it. We all need a certain amount of saturated fat to function and grow properly. The few rare plant saturated fats (coconut, palm and cocoa) are actually very healthful.
Another thing to put things in perspective is that a 6 oz. ribeye steak contains about 19 grams of saturated fat. So, in reality, eating a coconut bar would not be anywhere near eating even a small steak.
I don't like the cherry one either, it's too sweet. My favorites are Cashew Cookie and Cocoa Coconut (tastes exactly like a brownie!). I like Apple Pie and Pecan Pie ones too, Cinnamon Roll's okay, and I really want to try the peanut butter and banana bread ones but I haven't found them yet:( But i'm pretty much obsessed too, I have atleast one everyday!
Actually, the saturated fat found in coconut is considered to be quite good for you, especially when compared to the saturated found from other sources (like animals). Some saturated fat is necessary in a healthy diet, and recovering anorexics in particular need both saturated and unsaturated fats to rebuild and repair what has been lost.
I've never had a Larabar, though I've seen everyone and their mother posting about the things. I used to get these whole-food bars from the health food store that I really liked. But having to buy bars individually = super expensive. So! No bars for me. Plus bars and me don't have the greatest track record (too much temptation to pick and pull apart- I'm one of those people who plays with food) I imagine I'll need to conquer that soon. maybe I'll be feeling so ballsy for getting a new decadently-flavored food, I'll just bite right into the sucker.
What's the reccomendation for a first-time consumer?
peanut butter cookie is my fav!
I just ate the coconut cream pie and lemon bar one yesterday. (umm i went a little crazy and binged on about everything)
they were both really good! i think the coconut cream pie is worth a try for sure.
hmm i really like cherry pie and pistachio....
I had a chocolate coconut one and it was quite tasty.
Hey, I’m In Australia and I am just wondering…
What are the exact ingredients in those Lara bars?
I am asking because you can get similar bars here, that are only made from natural ingredients, as in, literally only dried fruits, nuts, honey and a carbohydrate like brown rice
Do Lara bars only contain fruit, whole grains, and nuts? Or are there any “ not so natural” ingredients? I am curious weather they are like the natural ones I find here in Aus
omg i wanna try these soo bad but im in ireland and we dont have them over here :( i also wanna try cliff bars....so jealous of the us and the awsome health food shops u have ( i wish we had wholefoods here)
I like the Coconut Chocolate Chew and the Cashew Cookie larabar. (:
Coconut is supposed to have alot of fat, right?
Ichigo - ALL Lara Bars have a lot of fats, hahah. But don't worry, it's the "good" kind. Coconut has saturated fats, but unless you're eating TONS of it I wouldn't worry. There's not even a whole tablespoon worth in a Lara Bar.
I just had the Coconut Chocolate one for the first time yesterday. It was pretty good - not too coconutty, which I liked. I still think I like Cocoa Mole a little better though.

They only contain natural ingredients like the ones you have, with just fruit & nuts. Like the Cashew Cookie just has: dates, cashews. on the ingredient list
i've sadly never eaten a lara bar that i actually liked. :(
Quoted from this page:
"Coconut improves the utilization of essential fatty acids and protects them from oxidation...
Once mistakenly believed to be unhealthy because of its high saturated fat content, it is now known that the fat in coconut oil is a unique and different from most all other fats and possesses many health giving properties. It is now gaining long overdue recognition as a nutritious health food."
:P Anyways, my favorite flavor thus far was probably Apple Pie.
I've tried pecan pie, cherry pie, ginger snap and banana bread. Pecan pie was my favorite, cherry pie my least since it's overly sweet. I do want to try the coconut flavors, though, since I love coconut =]
I've tried cherry pie, apple pie, cashew cookie, banana bread, and pistachio. I can't decide which one I like best...they're all so good! but cherry pie is probably my least favorite; it's a little too sweet for me.
Seems like Cherry Pie is the least loved. Shame really - I wish it weren't so overly sweet and sour because typically I enjoy "cherry" bars.
Today's bar was Banana Bread. Delicious as always. Mmmm... It was really cold though - it was sitting out in the car in 20 degree weather and snow. =(
i actually like the cherry pie larabar :]
my fav larabars would have to beee --- cashew cookie and pecan pie
<333
There are places where I live in Australia that sell date and almond rolls, and date and coconut rolls.
The date and almond rolls are just made from dates and almonds, and the dates and coconut roll is just dates and coconut.
There are also things called cashew bliss balls, they are made from cashews, dates, sultana’s, and rolled in coconut.
If LARA bars are just mixed up dried fruit and nuts and stuff, would it be cheaper to buy your own fruit and nuts and make your own bars?
Still, Lara bars would have to be one of the healthiest portable snack options for people who need to just grab something, it is great that you can get something on the run that is ONLY natural ingredients!
I like the idea of putting your making your own because you can add all your favorite ingredients
