favorite low calorie SIMPLE foods!

Quote  |  Reply

Hi! So, I'm a college student always on the run and I've been looking for some low calorie and filling foods than I can grab and go. I've fallen in love with instant fat free pudding (about 50 calories), activia fat free (70 calories), and oatmeal (120). They fill me up, don't take much prep time at all and aren't expensive. Any other recomendations? I've tried cereal bars and things of that nature but I can't find any that really fill me to any extent. Any other ideas or low calorie foods (other than the obvios fruits and veggies of course!) you love? Thanks!!

hummus with crackers...yum

hard boiled eggs with salt and pepper

I like to fill a baggie with baby carrots and chopped celery.  Sometimes I'll add a little salt & pepper or soy sauce for extra flavor.  Apples really feel me up too, and they're very portable.  I also  like filling a baggie with 1/2 cup fiber one cereal (60 calories) with 10 whole almonds (~75 calories) for a total of 135 calories, 13+ grams of fiber, some protein and other important vitamins/nutrients.

Mini-Rice Cakes (chocolate or caramel) (7 for 60 calories) and then a thin layer of either regular peanut butter or "Better Than Peanut Butter", which is 1/2 calories of PB!!  Mmm!!!

oooohh better than peanut butter? I've never seen that but i adoooree PB so that sounds fantastic.. do you buy it in regular stores like stop and shop?

I'm a college student too :) what works for me is baggies of cereal. special K blueberry is my favorite right now, but I also really like banana nut cherrios I measure out a cup put it in a bag and take it with me it's a little over 100 kcals. Hummus and veggies is also a great option I love cut up zuchinni sticks they are really low cal and hummus is about 30 kcals a tablespoon, but if you make your own you can make it without oil and it lowers the calories.  I also love cottage cheese and popcorn! I pop my own it's really low cal like 30 kcals a cup sprinkle it with garlic salt  and put it in quart size bags yum yum

hope that helps.

Whole wheat bread with peanut butter and a banana chopped on top of it. It tastes better if the bread is toasted, but not strictly necessary. Its even yummier with a teaspoon of honey, a dash of pepper and a squeeze of lime!

Mmmmmmmm......

Better 'n Peanut Butter does not taste like peanut butter in my opinion! Yuck.

- BELL PEPPERS, CHERRY TOMATOES, NORI SHEETS, CABBAGE SLICES (WITH MUSTARD), HARD BOILED EGGS, TOMATO PASTE, TURKEY OR SALMON JERKY SIMPLY MADE WITH NO SUGAR, OLIVES & ARTICHOKE HEARTS

Pears fill me up, Quaker Corn Bran Squares (60 cal), All Bran Chocolate Chip cereal bars.

Hey I am a college student as well but also work full time for an AFB.
I sit at my desk all day lol.  I went out and bought a lunchbox/cooler type that can easily fit in a backpack.  For breakfast I measure out my cereal and fill a water bottle with my low cal milk, and  then 8 oz of grapes... Lasts me all the way till lunch.  Boiled eggs works really well also peanut butter on wheat bread with a banana sliced on it is great.  Will keep you full for hours and great protein.

Better N' Peanut Butter is delicious! I recently tried eating Jiff again because we have some in the pantry, and I gagged on a smidgen taste of it. (and to think I grew up with that stuff lmao) Better N' Peanut Butter is definitely the way to go if you love PB and wanna cut the fat and calories out drastically.

You can buy it at Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, or online. Sometimes it's also called Peanut Wonder. (but for some reason Peanut Wonder tastes a lil' different and is not as good) I'm also a major fan of PB 2. I keep both brands around as staples.
