Favorite Between Meal Snacks?

Quote  |  Reply

I was just wondering if anyone knew of a good, low calorie snack to tide me over between meals?  A lot of times I find that I'm super hungry about an hour before I'm planning on eating, so I don't want something too big, just something to munch on.  Anyone have a favorite snack that you have to tide you over between meals?

Sorry if this is repetitive - I tried to search the forums and didn't find much. :)

I LOVE rice cakes.  I know a lot of people don't, but the lightly salted ones are only 35 cals/cake and I find they just give me something to munch on between meals.  Baby carrots are also a fav of mine.

sugar snap peas or apple slices are great.

I am a major gum addict as well..

Salad, fruits, small sandwich. A small ball of lentis soup.

grapes and strawberries is my usual....or an orange, banana, usually some sort of fruit for my afternoon snack.

I like half- to three quarters of a serving of beef jerky and some fruit. The jerky has lots of protien and typically keeps me fuller than a carb-y snack, just make sure to drink lots of water since there's soo much salt in it. :p

fav snacks:

-frozen grapes
-frozen mangos
-frozen blueberries
-crystallized ginger (candied ginger)
-bananas
-yogurt with GOLEAN kashi or fruit
-hummus and whole grain crackers or veggies
-dijon lettuce wraps
-feta cheese with cucumber and tomato
-dried apricots/blueberries (make sure you get the kind without too many sulphites and additives) with seeds and nuts (i like almonds)
-walnuts with green apple
-apple and almond butter
-melba toast and pb
-i love wasabi peas (they're really hot so you might not like them and they're more of a treat b/c i think they're pretty high in sodium)
-1% cottage cheese with fresh or frozen fruit

Water and fruit normally get me through to my meal times.

Being hungry at a meal time is good though it shows your metabolism is working hard and wants more fuel.

I know it sounds weird, but I have spinach soup as a snack. If I'm not home during snack time, I just take the soup with me in a travel mug. It's very low cal (60 cal per bowl) and fills your stomach.

When I don't have the soup, I just have a carrot or apple. And a lot of water.

Good luck!

I like a piece of toast (low cal, like 35) with a mashed half banana - it's really filling and yummy, tastes better than a cookie :-)

fruits and veggies, mini rice cakes, low fat rasberry yogurt, 100 calorie granola bars, handful of almonds, 100 calorie popcorn bags and lotsa water!

i am a gum addict. gives my mouth something to do besides eat! lol.

i also drink coffee to surpress my appetite, apples, yogurt, pretzel nugget

Sugar free jello and yogurt!

I don't typically snack but if there is about 1/2 hour until my dinner is ready, I will munch on some cherry tomatoes, cabbage with mustard/or olive tapenade, bell pepper slices, nori sheets, yam or kelp noodles or canned green beans - This usually helps until it's DINNER TIME! :)

diet jelly is very low in calories

I love frozen grapes or pineapple between meals.

When I NEED something savoury, I go for snack a jacks salted popcorn which is 48 cal per bag.

Sometimes I chop up a load of salad veggies and dip them in french mustard or ketchup.

Some snacks I eat are dried guava/mango slices, fruit leathers, almonds, walnuts, kelloggs bars, popcorn ... I also eat raw veggies with low fat hummus..

Fiber one bars are great and it's just like eating a candy bar.  Popcorn (fresh popped, no microwave bags for me) is my FAVORITE with a little kosher salt.  Half an apple sliced really thin with some fabulous cheese, like a hunter sharp cheddar sliced equally thin feels like you're having a snack at a spa..... and makes you take the time to enjoy the food as opposed to just satisfying your hunger.

fiber one bars

peanut butter

bagels

and jerky sticks :)

Rice cakes with peanut butter

Kashi cereal bars

A container of yogurt with a small sprinkling of cereal

Hummus with raw veggies

Apple with peanut butter

A rice cake or crisp bread with some cheese

Popcorn

Banana dipped in peanut butter

A mug of cheerios and milk

Pretzels dipped in a little jam (sweet and salty!)

Cottage cheese and crackers

Cottage cheese with fruit

A piece of toast with either butter, peanut butter or jam on it

Try looking into frozen fruits blended with other foods of your taste. You can use a blender as a smoothie machine to make a healthy snack from a fruity shake!
