Your favorite mock meat

Quote  |  Reply
Even though all of us here have pushed aside those burgers and drum sticks, what are your favorite fake meats and fake meat brands? Are you a Morning Star person, or a Boca lover? Do you have a favorite burger flavor? Do you like to mix dishes or add them to recipes of your own?

Fake meat thread, I suppose. List your favorites! Mine is the Spicy Black Bean burger from Morning Star, slid on a slice of toasted whole wheat bread and topped with tomato, lettuce, and ketchup. :D

mmm i love yves mexican ground beef!  SOO GOOD!  you can by the way buy low carb, low sug ketchup.  Its a Presidents choice blue  menu brand, i dont knwo if thats a canadian thing or not....
my favourite is the soy burgers available from Precident's Choice. I think it may only be a Canadian brand though.
Morning star! Yay! I love their breakfast "meats" and have recently gotten into the meal thingys, like the "ground beef" and the "chicken" strips... yum :)
I love Gardenburger's BBQ riblets.  So tasty ... they're ridiculously high in sodium but I still indulge on occasion.  Otherwise I mostly eat Morningstar products, especially the sausage patties and the vegan grillers.
Seitan and tempeh!  I prefer to make my own, but store bought versions from White Wave and LightLife are good, too.
I love Morningstar Farms with an unholy passion, LOL! the crumbles are the bomb, i love the classic style soy burgers, Chik patties (although they're higher in calories than I would like, so not so much anymore).
They even have sausage style crumbles, too. Check it out! Amy's stuff is good, too. The mexican tamale pie is only 150 calories and oh-so-good. Also, eta: Seitan. I love to make my own "cheesesteaks" with that stuff, with follow your heart vegan cheese.
I have to second lysistrata on the Gardenburger's BBQ riblets, they are my favorite, but as she mentioned something to be enjoyed only occasionally. I also like the Gardenburger meal starter chicken strips in stir fries. SO good!
Personally, I'm a big fan of the Boca line of "meats". Their Chik'n patties and flame-broiled burgers are pretty good, IMHO :)
I tend to avoid soy due to my hypo-thyroidism.  I do love the Quorn products though.  Although my favorite is that I can do a really great vegetarian stroganoff with seitan.
I haven't tried many but my favorite type is tempeh, I think. I've had seitan twice - once was awesome and the other was really gross. I also love Soysage, and the Gardenburger BBQ riblets are nice from time to time (and they actually have a sandwich with them on campus).
Morning Star's Tomato & Basil Pizza Burger patties with brown rice and steamed veggies =D
I really like Morningstar, but I often get Boca because it is less expensive and you can just cook it in the package.  My absolute favorite is the fake sausage patties...yum...
I'll eat Boca burgers, but I find that some mock meats taste too much like something I don't want to eat in the first place...
Smart Dogs!! and Morningstar Breakfast Patties and Corn Dogs and Buffalo Wings; Boca Burgers and Boca Chili.
Hey - I just found this company and like that they offer a lot of low calorie and low fat soy products - Yves.

I'm really new to this. Are these products more expensive (per serving) than real meat? I am beginning to enjoy tofu in stir fry, and really never thought i would. I was diagnosed type 2 diabetic in August 06, so i am really working hard on eating healthy now. I love tacos, but don't think the beef is any too good for me...is there a good subtitute for that...and for the cheddar?
There's a huge vietnamese supermarket where I buy most of my fake meat products. The packaging doesn't always have decent translations, but the array of products available is staggering! Think vegetarian chinese restaurant supply. My very favorite, and I partly love it because it seems like it should be so gross, is canned mock abalone. I don't even know what abalone is, but the mock stuff is great! It's just wheat gluten but it's so yummy.
The Fantastic Brand has an excellent vege taco filling. I love to use their sloppy joe mix in spaghetti sauce too. Morningstar has good fake chicken strips for stir fries ets. I'm not a huge fan of the beef ones though. Some good old fashioned tempeh is always great too!
I don't like most mock meats... :-/

What can I say my taste buds are really picky and.. most taste like rubber!
i absolutly love boca burgers and sausage links. I've tried nature's promise too, but after one bite, i couldn't stand going back for another
