Most of you have seen the Muppet Show, in it's various incarnations.

So... who's your favorite? A perenial favorite like Gonzo or Beaker? Or perhaps a newer muppet like Bobo the Bear or Pepe?

EDIT: And, yes, Sesame Street Counts.

Wait, what?  Granted he's been over marketed but only one parital mention so far.

ELMO!

I don't think Elmo even existed back when I watched Sesame Street.  I'm not overly fond of him.

[slight nerdity]

When it comes to Elmo, I think he is the defining point between "Old Sesame" and "New Sesame."  He's a great character, and Kevin Clash (his creator/voice/puppeteer) is brilliant.  However, being 35 years old, my Sesame Street days were pre-Elmo, and therefore, I harbor a bit of a grudge against Elmo because he sorta stole all the thunder from the wonderful Grover.

Props to Kevin Clash, though, for he was also the dude behind the puppets in The Great Space Coaster (now who here remembers that lovely bit of early-80's heaven???)

(okay, and I also wanted to bump this thread.)  ;)

I harbor a little bit of a grudge too (also from age and memories of 70's Sesame Street), but I always thought he stole the thunder from Big Bird.  The show where he and the cast were dealing with the loss of Mr. Looper Hooper was just freakin' brilliant.

He's no Carroll Spinney, but I agree Kevin Clash does a great job with Elmo - my kids love him.

My favourite from the muppet show would either have to be Janice or Animal from Dr. Teeth the Electric Mayhem band.

Can I count the muppets from Fraggle rock? Oh, I love all muppets though :) :) :) Just thinking about them make me happy.

That's what I was thinking, a toss up between the Electric Mayhem Band and the Fraggles, particularly Red.
Re: #43: Ohhhh I remember that, when Mr. Hooper died!  I was a little older than the average Sesame Street fan at the time but I tuned in because I heard they were going to deal with it on that day's show.   I cried.

I also remember watching the day that Big Bird proved to everybody that Snuffy was real and not imaginary!

one night i was at a local pub for a pre-regatta wine-and-cheese, and i said to the brother of my dad's first mate, "I can't figure out which muppet jim looks like," and the brother, without missing a beat, said, "Fred the Eagle."

Muppet Show:  Kermit

Sesame Street:  Ernie

Fraggle Rock:  Red

Fozzie Bear makes me hot

Beaker and Animal

The swedish chef because he made making a salad fun

FYI - For the Muppet Fans:

"The Muppets' Wizard of Oz" is going to be on the Disney Channel Wednesday (10/08/08) a t 8:00pm eastern.  It is repeated again on Thursday (10/09/08) at 12:00pm eastern.

It has Ashanti, Queen Latifah, Quentin Tarantino and others with the muppets doing their take on the classic movie.

I love "The Muppets!" "Labyrinth," is actually my favorite and most watched movie of all time. I also grew up and loved "The Dark Crystal." I always watched Sesame Street sometime still do if I catch it on..LMAO. The Muppets are classics...I use to watch the movies all of the time and I loved "Muppet Babies," when I was a baby into a toddler. (I was born in 1986.)

Ok to break it down:

The Muppets: Gonzo...he was the weirdo and outcast so I could always relate to that. Animal use to scare the crap out of me as a kid! He totally freaked me out, him and that big giant monster muppet with the long orange nose. Hahah.

Sesame Street: Elmo!..by far...I still have a huge doll of him today. The Count has always been pretty cool. Remember those little furry guys too with the yellow like horns of their heads where if they bopped their nose you would hear a beeeep? Ernie and Bert were always pretty funny too..and who could not love Cookie Monster?

Labyrinth: Oh man..I love them all no way I could choose...Hoggle, Sir Didymus, Ludo, the Fireys..ah all of them.

The Dark Crystal: Fizzgig! That little dude is awesome. Hahaha. I laugh so hard in the part where Jen and Kira are about to go off and fizzgig has a fit and opens his mouth really wide hollering because he wants to go. Haha. Kira was a pretty awesome and strong female character as well. :)

Fraggle Rock was awesome!

Man, am I a dork....Hey, I never said I wanted to grow up! :P ;)

Is it "The Muppet Show" revived?

I just came across a show on the Disney Channel called "Studio DC: Almost Live."  It has the characters of the Muppet Show, even the old balcony dudes.  I caught it towards the end, so I don't know if it is following the same premise as the Muppet Show.
