Favorite Type Of Protein...
What is your favorite protein & how do you cook it?
*This is a tough question for me but I think I am going to have to say a nice slab of fatty salmon, grilled to perfection!*
(With Clam Sauce on top!!!)
In order of preference (highest to lowest):
1) STEAK! usually top blade (pan-broiled on a cast iron grill pan)
2) Lamb chops (cooked same as steak)
3) Chicken (cooked same as 1 and 2)
4) Eggs (usually mixed in oatmeal, otherwise fried over hard or scrambled)
5) Whey protein powder (mixed in water or milk)
6) Yogurt (no cooking lol)
7) Ricotta cheese (also no cooking)
8) Peanuts and/or PB
tofu (baked)
eggs (scrambled)
beans (boiled or soaked)
tilapia (baked or pan fried with PAM)
ANY really expensive cheese (absolutely plain)
that's all i can really think of right now. but i'm sure there are more.
Milk (YUMMM)
Peanut Butter!!!!!
Chicken
Cheese (mozzarella or cheddar, or colby, or Monterrey)
chicken (grilled or baked)
shrimp (grilled)
Peanut butter and cashew nuts (spread on pretty much anything!)
egg whites (cooked with olive oil over a pan)
cottage cheese (with a ton of cinnamon and a sprinkle of Splenda)
sprouts (i love them!!)
Mine; no order of preference.
- Baked Tomato-Basil Tofu
- Soy Milk (plain, organic)
- Tempeh
- Scrambled Tofu
- Seitan
- Soy Yogurt
- Broccoli
- Beans
- Lentils
- Spinach
- Almonds
- Nut Butters
- Flaxseed
- Amy's Organic Vegan Burgers (no soy isolate!)
-Nuts! Eaten plain by themselves as a snack. I love salted mixed nuts the best.
-Peanut butter, spread on whole wheat bread, toast, pita bread, crackers, apples, bananas, anything!
-Eggs, cooked sunny side up with the yolk still runny. Then I dip whole wheat bread into the yolk. That's how my dad used to fix it for me when I was little and I have always loved it that way.
-Fish and shellfish: grilled salmon, sushi, pan-seared scallops, grilled or pan-seared shrimp, oysters on the half shell.
-Steak, cooked rare, dripping with juices. YUM.
-Lentils - I like them best in a nice curry-spiced lentil soup.
-Cheese, melted, on anything, period. Especially grilled cheese sandwiches and feta cheese on salads and in pasta
-Boca burgers on a whole wheat bun with ketchup, mustard, mayo, onion, and pickle.
-Milk served ice cold over cereal.
Wow, there are way too many delicious sources of protein.
So many choices!
- eggs, especially hard boiled
- milk and yoghurt
- steak, rare and tender
- chicken breast grilled to perfection
- peanut butter
- whey powder mixed in milk
- beans and chick peas
I can't choose just one either:
- Nuts and seeds (not the best source of protein, but definitely my favourite! I eat them on their own or in muesli/porridge or salads)
- Beans (usually in my main evening meal - sooooooooooooooooo many options here that I couldn't possibly list them, but chick peas in houmous, lentil and vegetable dal and butter beans added to salad are a few favourites)
- Tofu (in sandwiches, in stir-fries) and other soya products (milk in drinks, yoghurt as a snack, TVP in pasta sauce)
- Grains (bread, oats, rice, pasta etc. - not perceived as a protein source by a lot of people, but provide a significant amount of protein [and pleasure] in my diet)
eggs, over easy; beans; chicken, especially smoked chicken mmmmmmm; steak; nuts, any kind will do; lentils are tasty; turkey sausage, the sweet italian flavor is very nice....
boneless, skinless chicken breast grilled and seasoned with Mrs. Dash
For a non-meat vote I'd say fat-free cottage cheese topped with pepper, onion flake, red pepper flakes, and salsa.
tvp! very cheap, takes on the flavor or anything. very diverse and easier to cook than tofu. but usually i pan fry them. which can not be so healthy because of all the oil. i've never tried baking it. i don't know what that would be like. they come in granules for stuff like tacos or chunks.
tofu! of course this has to be one. i love tofu. get a good marinade and bake it up and you can slice it for sandwiches or dice it for other dishes.
lentils! i usually put them in soup or i just eat them with rice and veggies.
almonds and walnuts! although they are more of a fat than a protein. i eat them raw or bake them in something. or put i put them in my oatmeal.
alive vitamin/protein powder! for days when you need protein but don't have any time! but it is pricey!
1) Veggies - mushrooms in particular.
2) Goji berries
3) Whole grains
4) Beans
2) Beans - any kind, I love 'em all
3) Fat Free Cottage Cheese - with plenty of Hot Sauce on it!

- protein bars
- yogurt
