Fear Foods... which one did you conquer today?

Quote  |  Reply

I thought this might give some good motivation and support for all of us in recovery from eating disorder who are still struggling with our "fear foods", whatever they may be. When you tackle one, post about it here, or just post about another ED challenge that you have mastered.

Tuesday: Turned off my alarm clock and slept in and had a completely DIFFERENT and new breakfast when I woke up.

Wednesday: Made a "pan-fried" food for the first time and had mashed potatoes on the side at dinner.

Thursday: Ate my first whole egg with the yolk since having an ED (probobly a few years at least)

Friday: Had a double-dose of chocolate at breakfast and made a new recipe (involving salmon - FF) for lunch.

This was quite the week!

Yay good work! I am going to try pastry today too :)

 go for it xxx

This morning, while I was home alone, I challanged myself to a little spin on my usual breakfast. Instead of putting peanut butter on my english muffin, I had some earth balance buttery spread (I HATE buttered bread, toast, etc.). Even though I did not care for it much, I ate it, and I ate it with some vanilla yogurt and a fruit salad, because I WANTED to.

Great work tessa!  I am the same with pastry - I have a terrbile fear of it at the moment, and have never eaten it for as long as I can remember.

For example, this evening I'm planning on doing a mozzerella, tomato and pesto quiche for dinner for my family but me?  Well, I'll be having the rest of some chicken in home-made roasted tomato sauce that I made last night.  Far safer for me.

I wish I could conquer this fear because I'm sure the quiche will be delicious, but - well - perhaps another day ......

Dairy Queen. 'nuff said.

I just got back from Washington DC and challenged myself in several ways other than just the foods I was eating, but on the trip I also...

  • Ate WHITE pasta for the first time in a long while. I can't say I liked it at all though. It was flavorless and limp - I much rather prefer the nutty bite of whole wheat. Ah well.
  • Ate dinner after 8:00. Our family group was HUGE (12) and our days were jam-packed. There were a lot of long waits at restaurants so we usually ended up actually getting our food at about 8:30 or 9:00.

way to go thats brillant xxx

Thanks. I was the only one at Cheesecake Factory to win the clean plate award that night. Hahah. Not to mention I didn't even request any "special order" specifications AND I still had my night snack afterwards cause I wanted to.

It's good to be home though. I am not really a fan of eating out for every meal since I love cooking so much! At least I got to bring some snacks and essentials (still had my favorite oats for breakkie).

i had on thursday a strawberry shortcake good himor pop! spontaneously!

that was a ahuge challenge and the first time in years i had real ice cream that wasnt organic and had an ingredient list i couldnt pronounce things on lol...BUT i loved it and felt so so so proud :)

every day i try to have atleast 60 cals of dark chcolate but my goal is to have ben and jerry's ice craem soon (hell with the freeeeeeezing weather :) ) and i am aiming in a few weeks or a month to go out to a meal.

zebulancherry- that is soo great of an accomplishment! :)

Nicely done!  We don't have any around here, but even I've heard that Cheesecake Factory is famous for it's monster portions...haha I'd be impressed even if you weren't recovering from an ed.

For me, I had some of my mom's home made apple crisp tonight with my dinner, as well as one of the brown bread rolls.  They were just as good as they looked :)

ps, I TOTALLY forgot how much better dinner is if you eat bread with it.  I think there should be a bread basket with every meal (at least untill I've made up for all the bread I've been missing out on :P)

This morning I woke up and had TWO WHOLE eggs and TWO slices of Ezekiel toast spread with 2 t of earth balance with my mom (who never eats breakfast), and sister. It was a nice change of breakfast than my usual cereal, oatmeal, etc.

Also, this afternoon I went to a jewelry type of party, and even though I had just finished lunch, I ate TWO desserts there; one was a coconut type dessert with some chocolate on top, and the other was chocolate banana bread! About an hour later, after arriving home, I suddenly became strangely hungry again so I had my Key Lime Pie Larabar that I had brought with me.

I am happy with the positive change in eats for the day. It was fun (and delicious)!

fightoc petite wel done petite i love the picture

well done maya , i know i want icecream to but its cold

for me i ate sunday dinner with two other family members

Today I am really proud of the fact that I went to a reception with A LOT of good, and I tried ALL the types of dessert...some pumpkin pie, apple pie, banana bread, pumpkin bread...and cookies! Plus I ate cheese and bean dip and some other food. So basically I ate a lot of high calorie food around lots of people and I felt absolutely no guilt! I know i consumed lots of dessert and therefore sugar and butter but I enjoyed it!!!

this week i challenged myself to a raw coconut macaroon(last night) so good, but the saturated fat was high, but i am a huge coconut fan ;) and i didnt let that stop me, but i try to eat lots of healthy fats daily and challenge my fear of saturated fats as well, just with coconut products, chocolate and whole milk goats milk yogurts etc...

also same as Maya had a straw. stortcake good humor pop! :) just because no food should be labeled "bad" and i love those bars :)!

xx

For me it has been hard to have certain things at restaurants. If I made it at home it would not scare me. It is the unknown of what they put in there. So a big one for me I have had a few times is a DQ blizzard. Mixed dishes at a restaurant like a pasta dish with a creamy sauce, chinese, etc. Also a buffet and picking many different things that are not low cal. During the weight gain time I reminded myself the goal is to gain so if it has extra it is ok. People who don't need to gain have these foods all the time and there weight does not change that much. That it does not make a person good or bad/strong or weak to only have certain foods.

Good job all

that was such a big step abbie ;) thanks for that advice i found it very helpful

today i aded 2 pieces od toast to my plan

I bought bagels at the store today! I also got some sourdough bread, which I love. I'm thinking that tomorrow for breakfast I will make a egg-on-a-bagel sandwich. :)

Even though it was 97% lean meat I cant remember the last time I ate real beef instead of turkey or chicken substitute =)

Im worried thought cause I know I only ate 600 cals today, but thats still alot for me considering I only started trying to recover on friday.
