I'm aiming to lose at least another 50bls but there's one thing I'm scared of happening.  I am going to have a big ugly flap of skin hanging on my stomach once I've lost the weight.  I'm losing on average about 2bs a week which I'm hopeing will stop that from happening, but I'm still scared that it will.  Is this a possability or am I just being silly?

OK, i NO NOTHING about weight loss, so no doubt i will get slated for saying this lol, but surely you only get a flap if you dont exercise?

I would hazard a guess that if you are throwing in weights and toning exercises, surely your skin would be tightening and holding it all together?! *shrugs*

I climb at least once a week which is really good for toneing the stomach muscles aswell as arms, legs and back.  I also walk everywhere in newcastle which is usally about a mile to where I have to be from the Haymarket, but that fear is still there.

Well think about pregnant women...they lose the bellies but don't end up with flaps, do I don't think it's a major worry.

that's a good point and it's made me feel loads better aleady. :)

Your young, you probably wont have that. The pregnant woman analogy hit it pretty hard on the head.

And do you rock climb? I started in June but now I'm a hugely avid climber, so I love meeting other people who do too!

while having a big flap of skin there is not exactly attractive, would you prefer a flap of skin or a bulge of fat? I think the flap of skin sounds better (and healthier).  Plus, if its that awful, you can get the skin removed surgically (obviously its not ideal, but its not the end of the world).  Continue with your weight loss, congratulations on what you have accomplished, and good luck in the future!

I've been climbing for nearly 2 years grateful_deadhead13.  My boyfriend got me into it.  Slowly getting better and over the last few weeks I've noticed that I've pulling off harder moves and getting farther up climbs as I'm getting lighter.

I lost about 150 lbs. with just diet and exercise. The constant exercise does keep you from having a flap, like everyone is saying. I do have extra skin though, it mostly is just kind of a little saggy and wrinkly- all those extra skin cells have to go somewhere and tightening and toning only does so much when you lose that much weight.  It is not a flap at all and certainly no worse that all those horrible celeb on the beach photos in star mag.

Although 150lbs is different than 50 lbs, I will say it is worth it, you will still like your stomach better once you have lost the weight.

I still exercise and am trying to lose the last 20, so yeah, it's totally worth it.

Nice! I absolutely love it. Its like, one of the best workouts ever.  What ratings do you usually climb at?

ravanola, that's amazing, well done.  I hope I can manage to do as well as you.  I guess I'll defo be happier with less weight on me.  I want some of those overhang routes by the end of the summer and with less weight pulling on my arms that'll defo be easier.

grateful_deadhead13, I tend to warm up on F4s and often knacker myself on them at the end of a day but I tend to challenge myself mostly on F5s for the rest of the time.  I'm not doing any leading yet, not sure I ever will though.  If I ever do though it'll be on the Sunderland Climbing Wall, the idea of trusting my life to gear out on the crags scares the crap out of me.  I know that one of the tiny nuts could easily suspend a mini cooper, but for some reason I still can't imagin them holding me.  Can bairly watch when the lads are doing them.  I'm defo up for seconding some of the routs when I'm able to pull myself up them.

Congratulations on the weight loss so far.  One thing I've noticed no one has yet mentioned is using lotions.  Lotion containing vitamin E can also help the elasticity of your skin (and thus shrinking as you exercise and lose the weight).  Make sure and drink plenty of water too, which also helps your skin.

Lots of pregnant women use vitamin E oil or lotions containing Vit E, or even just any lotion can help moisturize your skin.  It could help calm your fears, but really the flabs of skin are from losing much larger amounts of weight than 50lbs or losing it very rapidly so your skin doesn't have time to adjust.

Good luck in your journey and good riddance to the weight!  :)

Cheers,

  Arden
