fear of working out

Quote  |  Reply
ok i think i work out too much and my body is usualy tiered and out of energy because of it. i run 30-45min everyday and lift weights every other day, ie tues, thurs, sat, mon, wed, sat, tues and so on... My days are constantly plauged with me worrying about working out, i dont enjoy it and sometimes i feel like i rather die than go work out. and i loose my mind if i go a day without running for more than 20min. I do about 100 jumping jacks, 20 crunches, hold the crab walk position for about 1min then do other abs b4 breakfeast. In my dreams i dream about food and fearing workingout and every morning when i wake up i already think ive eaten breakfeast in the middle of the night cuz my head is that crazy. I work out because i want to build more muscle (i have very little fat, but am not terible muscular) and even moreso just to remain the way i am. I think that if i dont run 30min EVERYDAY and liftwieghts that i will have lost all i have worked for and start to gain flab on my stomach... am i overdoing it?? or should i continue with what i am doing and will eventualy get results? (not seeing much muscle building atm)

thank you

You should talk to your doctor about this. Here's a website you may want to check out:

I agree with MWZ.  Sounds like you are addicted to exercising.  You may also be overdoing it to the point that your body is burning muscle just to keep it running!
yes thank you for that link...i think i do have that i feel super depressed on day i dont get a good excersise in, i cant imagine (other than the days before i run at events) how i would feel on days i did nothing at all... is there any cure? my biggest fear is that if i dont stop i will get flabby.
you really need to cut back on evreything! if you don't your body will eventually shut down and you will get sick and then you won;t be able to do anything! cut back to cardio every other day and weights just twice a week, you will see better results and get the body you want. You have to remember that your body changes and improves when you are resting and replenishing it with nutrients; not when you are working out. Take a week off to let your nervous and immune systems recover and then start doing tyhe workout I stated above.

You are really doing a lot of damage to your body.

ive known this all along but just needed to hear it more i guess. im seriously considering cutting back and getting my life back. I mean its just my friends who are in great shape, excersise all the time. my one freind practices tennis for 4hrs a day for like 5 fays a week, my other freind dose gymnastics for 3hrs 5 days a week and my other freind (not sure about this 1) claims to spend 3 hrs in the gym every day! now i kno this a bit extreme but they are all perfectly helthy (more than me) and its just kinda weird...can i get some of u guys to tell me that i can build muscle, not be flabby and ne happy if i workout less?
60 minutes a day on most days of the week is the government's current recommendation for exercise. I can't tell from your post how much more than this you are doing...

what concerns me most is how compulsive your behavior seems to be

Here's another good site -

If you recognize two or more warning signs of compulsive exercise in your child, call your child's doctor to discuss your concerns. After evaluating your child, the doctor may recommend medical treatment and/or other therapy. Because compulsive exercise is so often linked to an eating disorder, a community agency that focuses on treating these disorders might be able to offer advice or referrals. Extreme cases may require hospitalization to get the child's weight back up to a safe range.

I hope'll you talk to your doctor about this right away.
i also went through this at the beginign..

i was addicted to working out and eating right and you just have to learn to calm down!  your body needs rest and the right nutrients and with out those 2 things i feel as though working out loses a lot of benefits!!

keep going but know that if you miss a day you'll be okay!!!
i was there.... try doing different activities where you can burn the same amount of calories but having fun and in less time than running....for example spinning classes...time flys in those... kickboxing... cardio aerobic.... they are soo fun and you burn ridiculous amount of calories... plus your body needs variety... it'll be good for you and you notice different parts of your body will be getting toned
