I have arachnophobia.  Don't remember when it started.  The more colorful the spider, the more it freaks me out.  I can't even touch common house spiders unless its with something at least a foot long.  If a spider or a spider web gets on me I freak out and usually rip off the clothing they are on, throw it on the ground, and stomp on it.  If it touches bare skin I scream like a baby.  :P

I get all jittery if I realize I was holding something that had a spider crawling around on it, or come close to touching one.  I usually won't put my hand in something that I saw a spider in, or think there is one inside.  ;p

o god i hear ya.......i cant even touch a dead spider,  cant even pick it up with some tissue....makes me shiver....!

i think its the way they move isnt it...thats what freaks me out.....because ya know earwigs...or centipedes dnt freak me out....

Yeah, no other bug freaks me out.  My mother told me I used to play with all sorts of bugs, including spiders, when I was little.  I don't remember that, but perhaps I was bit by some point by a particularly painful spider and that instilled a fear of them in me?  Either way, I just know I have the fear.

Their movement might play a part, but the more bizarre or colorful they are, the more freaked out I get.  Like a tarantula kinda creeps me out, but a spider the size of a penny with yellows, reds, or oranges on it could possibly make me lose control of my bodily functions of it got on me.

I am a man who walks alone
And when Im walking a dark road
At night or strolling through the park

When the light begins to change
I sometimes feel a little strange
A little anxious when its dark

Fear of the Dark....

Im extremely claustrophobic. Of course this is something more common.. but still. I remember when bulking into a small car.. around 12 of us all squished in a tiny vehicle. I would rather walk 10 miles in the cold rather than suffer 2 minutes of that feeling. Plus with these infrequent yet still occurring drive by kidnappings in which your placed in the trunk. I would rather be shot.

When I was younger I used to be extremely afraid of aliens and being possesed by the devil (happened after I saw The Exorcist). Of course the alien fear subsided soon after and my fear of the devil went away after I realized that god didnt exist and therefore neither did the devil. (Of course thats just me... god may indeed exist and I will be handed over to the devil in a silver platter for such a comment; but oh well. cest la vie).

So many, I'm incredibly paranoid. To list a few:

Afraid of spiders*

Afraid of men*

Afraid of people (in general)*

Afraid of social situations*

Afraid of being judged negatively*

Afraid of being disliked*

Afraid of closed spaces

Afraid of sharks

Afraid of alligators/crocodiles (adults only though)

Afraid of eels *shiver*

Afraid of the dark because I'm...

Afraid of getting burglarized

Afraid of cancer (who isn't?)

Afraid of raw potatoes*

Afraid of heights*

Afraid of tornadoes (never experienced one)

Afraid of ghosts

Afraid of scary movies/horror films (AHHH!)

Afraid of getting a job (long story - linked to a few fears already listed)*

Afraid to go anywhere alone (including back yard/front yard)*

I got more but uhh... yeah

I never claimed to be normal. Embarassed

Edit: Added a few more that I thought were odd fears. And I added a * to the ones that are really bad, like life-controlling bad (I can't make french fries, someone has to cut the potatoes for me and lay it out on the pan, can't even touch em with gloves!! How sad is that! LOL).

Blindness, dependance, rejection, infidelity

Used to have no phobias at all. Then, one day while sitting at a red light while driving a Mazda 323, I got plowed into from behind by a tiny asian dude driving a Buick LeSabre. Watched the rear view mirror as he came up on me without slowing down at all... up until the moment where my world dissolved into a blur of motion, noise and pain.

Now, I get an occasional panic response when sitting at a red if I see someone coming up on me. I don't know if that qualifies as "phobic" (I believe a phobia is defined by something that negatively affects how you live your life) but it's definitely a fear.

Ha well at least your fears are based on what's real. Whenever I have to sleep in the country, every single scary movie I've ever watched comes to my mind.

I can't sleep when its quiet, I actually feel better when I hear a car go by.

I imagine things from, Critters, Zombies, Blair Witch, Pyschos & Aliens. Altho the last two could really be out there, haha.

Getting Fat

Rejection

Sharks

 OMG ME TOO!

but its the fuzzier ones that get me, not necessarily colors. *shudder*

and the bigger they are, the harder it is to kill them because the juicy squish freaks me out. *gag*

I'm VERY afraid if they are on the ceiling.. just sitting there.. waiting for me to walk underneath so they can DROP ON MY HEAD EEEEEEEEEEK!

The only other one that is really bad is heights.

Hubby is afraid of snakes so I have to save them before he kills them.

Mom is afraid of green tree frogs. DEATHLY AFRAID!!!

 *shudder*

she's what nightmares are MADE of!!

*creeped out* I forgot about clowns!!! EEEK!

I'm deathly afraid of NEEDLES! I will faint if I even see one, but if I get one it is a huge dramatic deal and so embarassing. It's strange because logically I know it's just a pinch, but I just can't handle it.

If I start thinking about needles, my arm actually starts throbbing. Strange thing is that needles from the dentist are totally fine as long as I don't see it, even though it hurts so much more!

Home invasions. I have never had this happen to me and we live in a pretty safe area but it is my biggest fear. I can't watch movies where that happens (I think there was one called The Strangers, and another one called Funny Games, both terrified me and I barely slept that night for fear someone was going to come into our house and terrorize us).

I can recognize that I'm being irrational about it...I've woken my husband up several times because I hear "suspicious noises" and it turns out to be our cats playing. If someone were really in our house and I woke him up, I'm fairly sure he wouldn't believe me. I've actually gotten up and locked the door to our bedroom, so convinced was I that someone was in our house.  I have nightmares about someone entering our bedroom with a gun and I wake up all freaked out. Every morning (I wake up alone - my husband leaves really early for work) I get this creepy feeling that someone has broken in and I check every room.

Sometimes I think I need to learn self defense and maybe that would help me get over it.  I also think I would feel safer if we had some sort of weapon - not a gun, maybe a tazer so I could at least incapacitate the person. Of course if I was ever in that situation, I'm sure I would probably pass out from fear and be completely useless.

Yes, sharks.  I never used to feel that way until that fateful summer when the movie Jaws came out.  Ever since, even in swimming pools I have to check.  And I have the worst shark dreams sometimes.

Also afraid of heights (but not of flying which probably makes no sense).  I can't even get up on a medium sized rock while hiking without a little hitch in my breath.

I always screech if I see a big bug unexpectedly, and then I'm not scared anymore because I think they're interesting, if a little on the disgusting side in terms of looks.

Fear of the Dark....

YAY!!  The first Maiden reference I've come across on CC!!

frokushblakah:....o no for me the bigger they are the more scared i get.

akgal: totally forgot about fire.....i used to wake up in the middle of the night to check the cooker. think i got this from my mam though because she used to do that.

but nothing scares me as much as sharks....they are at the top by a mile.

i remember i was reading a magazine and i turned the page and it was a pic of a shark with its jaws open.....automatic response threw the mag across the room.....silly silly silly
