I feel crazy
Ok, so I've read a lot about how good Naturally More Peanut Butter is for you and stuff, because it has egg whites, flax seed, etc. yeah well, I never saw anyone say it has cane sugar and honey in it and I didn't check the label before I bought 4 jars!!!!
Now, don't get me wrong, this stuff is DELICIOUS! However, I have worked so hard to remove all added sugars and artificial sweeteners from my diet..and now just the thought of eating those jars is nagging me. I'm thinking about going and returning them and using that money to buy some all natural, one-ingredient peanut butter. Most people would say just eat them and know that for the future, and don't buy it again, and that amount of sugar won't make much of a difference. But it's like I can't keep eating them..I've worked so hard to get rid of that stuff!
I have also returned some bagels when I got home and realized they were made with wheat flour and not 100% WHOLE wheat flour!
Anyone else done this/do this? Or am I seriously crazy haha
I just don't think the benefits from the egg whites, flax seed, etc. is worth taking in the added sugars.
You're not crazy. I have returned yoghurt and cheese that I realised wasn't reduced fat. I have also spat out a mouthful of porridge because I realised I wasn't hungry anymore! Maybe we are both crazy...
Try Smucker's Natural Peanut Butter - not the "organic" kind.
It has peanuts and salt under "ingredients" on the back.
And it tastes SOOOOO good - I'm damn near addicted to it!
You're not crazy. If we did not pay attention to what we are putting in our bodies that would be crazy. I personally love Naturally More Peanut Butter. Sugar and Honey are not bad for you. You do want to limit your amounts because of the calories but far better for you than artificial sweeteners. Naturally More has fewer calories than other peanut butters so don't worry about it. It is good for you.
I think our food industry is the crazy party here, not you. It's really only in the last sixty years or so that highly processed "mystery-ingredient" foods have become readily available, and only in the past three decades or so that they've come to represent the majority of most Americans' diets. (I'm assuming you're American...) When you think about it, it's really very strange to have to ask yourself what is in your food. I realize, of course, how helpful the food science industry has been in feeding more people more cheaply, but all the same, it has brought us to a point where it actually costs MORE to buy foods that are less processed and have fewer chemicals in them, and the struggle to know what's in your food can make you feel a little crazy! It seems as though it should be so obvious, but it's not at all.
Peanut butter doesn't "need" sugar. It's great with just peanuts, or peanuts and salt. It's not crazy to return a product that is different than you thought it was. Stores have return policies for this purpose. Don't feel weird about trading it in for the product you really wanted.
I keep going back and forth between, "Well the good stuff/lower cals balances out the sugar and honey!" and "Peanut butter doesn't NEED sugar or honey so I should go as natural and whole as possible..plus I worked so hard to get that out of every other food item"
I bought some Maranatha organic PB but have to return it cause I grabbed crunchy and not creamy =\ I'm gonna be good friends with the customer service people haha I also have to return some grapefruits because my mom didn't look them over and they were MOLDY! ACK! Thank goodness these are all from different stores =P (NM from Roth's, Maranatha from Fred Meyers, Grapefruits from WinCo)
But yes, I'm still debating on whether I want to keep the NM PB or not..
There's just something about eating cane sugar and honey every day that gets to me.
mmmm crunchy... I'll take it off your hands ;-)

generally if you believe in something(a faith, or not eating processed foods or added sugars, or whatever) then stick to it and NO you're not crazy
"stand for something or you'll fall for anything"
