This morning I wake up and it's my weigh in day and I have not lost anything and I been eating and excersing and I don't understand why I am not losing weight this week. I am 182 and the week before I was the same. I wish I could figure out what I am doing wrong. I'm I not working out each day long enough? I'm I eating to many calories that I am not burning any of it off? Ugh I have never felt so discourged in my entire life. I am a pretty determined person I just don't know why I can't lose the weight. Is there any suggestions that you all could give me to help me find my twick in this weight losing goal? I want to be able to lose weight I mean I've gone to 191 to 182 and now I am stumped what can I do to help myself along? Thanks!
I had the same thing happen to me... firstly:
how many calories are you eating every day? and how much exercise do you do?
The reason i ask this is that i found out about the hormone leptin. Leptin controls your metabolism, the more leptin you have in your body the higher your metabolism and the way to keep your leptin levels high is to consume plenty of calories. Someone suggested doing cyclical dieting, where you maybe have a limit of 1400kcal per day and rather than sticking to this every day, you have 1200 one day, 1600 the next and vary it each day so that you have an overall average of 1400kcal per day over the week. The reason it's helpful to do this, is that your body can become used to living on a certain amount of calories and then once it's used to it, you will stop losing weight; it will just maintain. If, however, you shake it up a bit, it keeps your body guessing at how many calories it's going to get. If you have a couple of days where you have more calories your body will produce more leptin, increasing your metabolism. Then after that you can enjoy a few lower calorie days with your metabolism still being high! I hit a plateau at about 4 weeks in and it was frustrating, then i tried this method and it helped! the next week the scale moved again. Now, i do cyclical dieting every week! It means i can have one or two days where i can enjoy a few extra treats and i can still lose weight!
I hope this has made some kind of sense!
Oh I'm I glad someone replied lol! I see what your saying about cyling my calories and it makes sense. Right now I am eating at least 1400 calories a day sometimes less and I excersie mon-fri for an hour and I take the weekend off. I heard that your only suppose to workout every other day, but I am trying to stay active as much as possible and even on the weekends I try to at least get out and walk. My problem is I don't get hungry very much and so when I do get hungry I tend to eat to much. I been doing good though I have been eating 5 meals at least a day and eating smaller portions to the serving size that is only needed for how ever many calories. I drink 8 cups of water maybe more each day as well. I will try cycling my calories to see if maybe it will get me out of this plateu. I also was told that you need to consume more calories on the days that you do workout and less on those days that you don't. I am not sure if this is true, but supposely its also suppose to help lose weight quicker. My problem is I don't eat enough carlories in one day. I really appericate the advice you gave me and I will try and see if it works! Thank you!
Very interesting, actually never heard this before. Heard about leptin but only really about some pills that are supposed to fix it. Anyhow, seems plausible. I say give it a try, not the pills, but the whole cycling thing. Good luck!
