Do you still feel flabby/fat even though people call you skinny?
OK so I think I would definitely fit into this category. I know I'm not fat but I feel like I have a lot of fat on my body and that I'm not very fit. A lot of times people are always like you're so skinny, but, I know that they don't seem my stomach or my thighs so I want to fix that. I've always hated my abs and I feel that they've never been anything but flabby. So if you only need to lose 5-15lbs and you want to tone up so that you think you're skinny too then post your stats and we'll start a weekly group with weigh-ins and support. I'll start:
Age: 18
Height:5.5 1/2
Starting Weight: 128
Goal Weight: 115
Part you want to tone up:
abs & thighs
Favorite part: My booty! haha

Wow. Youth is totally wasted on the young. I believe when I was 18ish I was 5'3" and about 100-105. Never even cared what I ate or how much I exercised. Now at 32 I have to pay a little more attention. If all of you skinny fat girls want to look fit start lifting weights, and try to avoid junk food. At 18ish your metabolism is still probably great and you can eat whenever you are hungry, just don't go crazy. being skinny but feeling flabby is just a lack of muscle, so add heavy weights (you can not lift more than 12 reps in a set). Relax and enjoy your great bodies, this should be the time of your life not a time to weigh every portion of food and obsess about a number on a scale. Throw away the scale, buy clothes that flatter no matter what your size and love yourself for who you are on the inside and quit looking and the tiny amount of flab. Or go see a doctor about your body image problems.
I ate whatever I wanted when I was 18 too... It contributed to me being 185 pounds. At 22 Im now slimmer than I was in high school and by not eating whatever I want, whenever I want (and by ditching my coca-cola habit) Im still losing weight. Not everyone had the fortune of being a skinny-mini in school.
I'm Kiki, and I want in on this, even if i am a little bit more than flabby, people always try and tell me that i don't need to lose weight. it's so annoying, haha:)
Height: 5'10

I know you tried to aim this toward younger people but I get this all the time. "You are getting too thin, eat a sammache!" Whatever, I eat every two hours.

okay
so i'm 17, 5 ft 2.5 , and currently around 120 lbs :( i'm eating about 1200 cals with 1 hr walking dailyyyyy :D
i want to get down to 108 lbs as a start but no less than 105 lbs ''wold never reach that weight the healthy way''.. i'm currently size 2-4
i want to add another hour to my daily exercise but afraid it's too much and would get muscles :S i'm med framed so i really hate muscles..
does anyone know any exercises that can burn cals and fat without gaining much muscles? also, is 1 hr of walking a day enough?
Well all exercise will build muscle but if you do pilates or intervals it cleaves the muscle closer to your bones so it doesn't add as much bulk. Most floor exercise w/o weights will do this for you. I also have a medium build and worry about bulk. My quads can get completely out of control. LOL
If you hit the dreaded plateau, try mixing up your exercise by adding new types. I threw in jogging intervals, they burn a lot of cals, continue to burn for around 4 hours after and don't add bulk.

Hope that helps!

So now one believes me, when I say I need to tone up and get fit.. Skinny does NOT equal fit.. and i*m not skinny... 5'9, 21yrs old, female, and 62kgs

Unfortunately you're clincally underweight and your target would make you even moreso. CC does not support people with those ambitions

- Promotion of starvation diets or habits that exhibit signs of an eating disorder ("pro-ana", "pro-mia", etc.) is prohibited.
Firstly, I think you might misunderstand my intention. Secondly,
I am not pro ana or pro mia. I look no where close to underweight!
People on those websites weigh 45 kilos or less they have bmi's of 16 and less, and yes i think that they look DISGUSTING .
It is not my ambition to look skeletal.
Plus i am not on a starvation diet, i just eat extremely healthy non fat food and plus I'm a vegetarian.
Everyone has different bodies! Some people have more muscle than others some people have heavier bones not everyone looks the same at the same weight and height. My mum weighs 68 and her sister weighs the same but she looks way bigger than my mum!
There are other factors that need to be taken into consideration. I don't believe in BMI..according to BMI calculations world famous athletes are considered 'obese'.

Non-fat is not healthy all the time. Fat is essential.
68 as in pounds? Unless they're four feet tall that is insane and completely unhealthy.
68 kilos sorry obviously not 68 pounds. what i meant to say is that BMI is not a good determining factor because my mum and her sister are exactly the same height and weight yet one looks larger than the other :)
Depends what you mean by fat, I obviously use cooking oil, Just no regular savories or junk food. Except for cinema popcorn :)
Wanting to weigh 108 when you are 114 is a totally stupid goal.
BMI is not 100% accurate - you are right! The limit is 18.5 - 25, but there are many healthy people who are 18.3 , or 26.1 or etc…..
But your current BMI looks like about 18 - cos I am about 5 ‘ 5 and about 114 lbs and my BMI is only about 18.5 - 19ish……..
So BMI does not necessarily mean that people JUST ABOVE or JUST BELOW the “ healthy” range are “ unhealthy”…
However, what you are saying is totally different; you are already a tad below the 18.5 limit……
There IS something wrong with wanting to lose MORE weight, when you are already at or just below the healthy range.
If your BMI was 21 or preferably more, then losing 1 - 3 pounds could be fine for SOME people (even than, a lot of women are naturally BMI 21 or higher, and therefore it is unhealthy for their body types to lose anything, even a pound!)
But at BMI 18 or less, which is what you are, you have literally NO WEIGHT to spare, in case you get ill.
The BMI guidelines is also to do with health - for MOST women, it is unhealthy to have a BMI of 19 or less.
You can change the shape of your body by resistance training ( Pilate’s, machine weights if you go to a gym) or other weight bearing exercises, such as walking up hills, jogging, swimming, and etc.
And plenty of ab work
Toning the weight that you do have is what YOU need to do.Just imagine! At 108 lbs, if you fell ill, you could lose to 105 or even to 100 lbs! that is SEVERLEY underweight, so much so, that it would be very dangerous and unhealthy.
I am not a jaded fat person who is trying to discourage you from looking “ thin”, I am thin myself, but from a lot of experience (with my own body and other people’s), I know for a FACT that you need to educate yourself on how toning your body and increasing your muscle/lean mass compared to fat, is the way for a person as slim as yourself to reach their goals.
Hey, yeah i totally agree with you on that. My first goal was in fact to stop exercising, I'm half African and unfortunately i take after my dad so i have a naturally muscley build, i used to be a dancer for about 10 years however i noticed myself gaining a lot of muscle and was gaining it fast around my thighs. So i quit a few years ago however i think pilates might be a good idea because its not an intense form of training and i think it would be great for my body type. I know 108lbs is ridiculous and i am quite young --only 20 but i would never think of being that underweight when i get older or as you said if i fall sick. I'm quite happy with where i am at with my weight and wouldn't worry if i gained a kilo or 2.
Although I have been struggling these last few weeks with food, sleep because i suffer from quite severe anxiety and I'm in the middle of my exams, so i wouldn't be surprised if my weight had dropped, but once exams are over I'm going to rethink my diet and look for some pilates classes.
Thanks for the advice.
I am impressed by how well you took what I said!
Calling your goal “ totally stupid” may have sounded harsh - but there are certain people who are already underweight, who have unhealthy goals to lose more weight, who just do not listen to people who tell them that it is unhealthy to lose more weight, when a person is ALREADY underweight.
Fortunately, you were not one of those people who needed blunt, harsh advice - I am glad you actually took what I said into account, rather then ignore my advice and continue to want to lose to 108!
I am 52 kilo’s at about 5 ‘ 5, and I am toned with muscle and look really healthy, and I do not think that most body types would naturally be much less than what I am - which is almost the same as where you are.
I also gain muscle on my legs easily - so I do not do spin classes (cycle), and I do diff types of aerobics classes that have many diff moves - therefore none of my muscles are worked hard enough to increase the size of their appearance.
So, I do a lot of exercise than I did in the past, however, I do the right type, and right variety, so that I do not “ bulk up” as some like to call it.
I tried Pilate’s too for a few months and loved it too - it is great for core strength
Do you have an idea how many calories you eat? It is not good to count obsessively when your only a teen (or even at all, long term), however, I hope you are getting in a good amount - at least 2000.
I say this, because I am about your height/weight, and I used to eat about 1600 - 1800 for a long time. I did not feel starved or realize it was not a lot, but now that I am eating 2000 - 2400 each day, I have much more energy
Lastly, have you ever had any thoughts that you would consider “ disordered” in regards to food? I ask, because the title of this thread made you want to look at it - but at your low weight it can be bad, responding to the title of this thread is a bit of a worry
I did responded too lol - and I do have a history of disordered eating. And I do not feel thin even though I am compared to the norm. But, it is under control, and I know I am slim and like my body -although at times I just let the thin images out there make me feel gross that I am not like that. Not enough to impact my day though lol.
I am hope you do not feel too bad about your body, or feel too “ flabby” to the point where it upsets you too much!
I can relate to this thread. Only one year ago I used to weigh 110. now I am up to nearly 120. Everyone still call me skinny. I have a huge roll of flab in my middle and I hate it! I want to get back down to 110 at least. I really need my clothes to be fitting right again.
