Should I feel guilty I ate a Krispy Kreme donut !!!!

Quote  |  Reply
I just had a Krispy Kreme donut the original and I kind of feel guilty I have lost around 14 lbs in 5 weeks. Should I put it in as a treat for loosing weight or would that be bad.

Id avoid eating them often, but its ok to have a treat sometimes. Don't sweat it! Just dont eat them everyday.
I'd say if you've gone without a treat for 5 weeks then you're a stronger person than me! Just try not to dwell on it, it could have been a hell of a lot worse, and I'm pretty certain that if you carry on eating well and excercising it wont have any effect on you.

This reminded me of something I read a while back. I dont' know who said it, or I'd credit it. :

'There are times in life when it's worthwhile being ashamed. When I've lost my temper at a child, betrayed a secret, insulted a friend behind his back, I've committed an actual error worthy of actual guilt. But eating pizza is fairly low on the scale of moral lapses. No one on her deathbed looks back and says, "I'm filled with regret that I ate too much ice cream and not enough kale."
In all honesty, I do not view a treat as being an excuse for eating something and to cut my guilt afterwards.

My treats are usually planned, so I know they are coming.

If you wanted to treat yourself to it, then fine.  But don't use the "its a treat" excuse after the fact.

Either way, you ate it, log it, and move on.
Glad to see that your weight is coming off and a donut is okay.  Plus i'm sure that soon you will find out that they just might be a little to sweet for your taste.  Which will also be a good thing.

Be proud of all that you have done with your weight  and move on.  Your doing great!!!
veeny you don't feel guilty, it's just the vain in the guilt part of your brain hardening. But a treat is a treat, one won't kill ya (or make you you gain 14 pounds).
veeny, I suspect that disappointment might be a better word than guilt -- disappointment that you've fallen off the wagon after doing so well.

disappointment can be a positive thing if it leads us to a recognition (and admission) of why we fell off the wagon (what were the precipitators?), and resolve to modify our behavior so it doesn't happen again.

congraluations on your success so far . . . and best wishes for continued success.
Never reward yourself with food for losing weight.  Associating food with emotion isn't a good way of learning how to eat in a psychologically healthy way.

Consider the doughnut as part of your normal way of eating, a regular person not on a diet would have a doughnut every once and a while.
yea just let it go. dont feel bad. enjoy what you ate while you ate it :)  They make whole wheat KK donuts now too. Did you see that? with less calories! Yay lol.  I still stay away from donuts :)
Don't feel bad! It's just one donut. Now, if you ate half a dozen, maybe we could talk.

Besides, I just ate a cup of chocolate ice cream and I've only begun trying to lose weight last week! I lost 4 lbs though, have 14 more to go, and just really wanted some ice cream! Which is okay, not great, but never feel guilty for eating a single serving (or even two) of a delicious treat on occasion. One could even argue that such foods are good for you when you only eat them on occasion and don't go on a binge.

You're not going to get fat after eating a single donut. Think about it like wine. A single glass of red wine is good for you, but a bottle a day? Hmm, not so much. Enjoy your treats and remember, if you're eating treats everyday, it's no longer a treat now is it? :)
I totally agree with ravenlark. Don't view the donut as a reward. That's the type of thinking that made you eat too much junk and got you to calorie-count in the first place. Eating is not a reward. It's a means of nourishing your body with what it needs to live a long, heathly life.

Sure, it's nice to eat something that tastes THAT good once in a while, but try not to do it as a reward. Break that way of thinking. You're doing so well. Don't sabotage yourself by falling into bad habits.

I try to view these types of meals as CHEAT meals, as weight-lifters call them. I have one cheat meal per week where I eat anything I want (in moderation) and it actually gives my metabolism a boost. I try to think of a donut, pizza, or cheeseburger as cheating - not a reward.
Don't feel bad. I ate a whole peice of chocolate cake today and I don't feel bad. However, I also biked 5 miles. I'm happy because I am in control of what I eat and creating good habits for my whole life. One donught/cake means nothing. Looks like you are making progress, so don't sweat it. When I eat more than I planned to in a day, I just work it off later. Log it and do an extra half hour of excersise tomorrow. there is a balance and you can have health and an occasional donught.

hi veeny85,

You had ONE and stopped at that. Many other people (myself included!) would have had another five (or ten)!! I really admire your willpower, and you should be proud of yourself. 14 lbs in 5 weeks is no mean feat either!
YES, you should!!! :P All "kidding" aside, weight loss treats should not be food. I heard that somewhere and I totally agree.
Don't let the one donut throw you off. Just keep doing what you were doing before. Everyone slips up every now and then. Just keep pushing yourself. One donut won't hurt you...so congrats on not eating a whole box. (Something I probably would've done) and congrats on being 14 lbs lighter.
don't sweat it...factor it in to your daily calorie allowance, you still don't need to go over for the day. everyone needs to eat something like that once in a while. if you love something, it should never be completely off limits, or you'll snap and eat a dozen instead of just one. it's totally fine.

and also, i'm against those 'whole wheat' donuts from krispy kreme. it's still a donut, and saying 'but its whole wheat!' is just an excuse to eat a donut...its not as bad as regular donuts, but its still not a healthy choice.

The important thing for a long-term diet is being able to get right back to it after yielding to temptation. There are parties, holidays and all kinds of temptations, and the successful dieter is the one who succeeds over and over in getting right back in the game after a tumble.
First of all congratulation on losing those pounds.

We all "slip" when on diet...I think it is just part of the whole deal.

I know I should try to make you feel better, but I think you should treat this incident as something very bad and that it should be avoided in the future. I have noticed this with me that when I slip, it becomes really hard for me to go back to my Fiber and vegetables(!!). That is why I try to make such mistakes maybe once in two months or so.

Dont kill yourself by over exercising or doing other god-forbidden thing, just promise yourself not to do it again...At lease untill you reach you goal.

Goodluck
No you should not feel guilty. Today I had a sausage mcmuffin and hash browns for breakfast. I added it to the log, had a REALLY healthy lunch, did my exercise for today and have 900 calories to go for dinner.

You just work it in.
no way.
if you like it...eat it.

theres less calories in that than a muffin.

eating realistically while letting yourself have what you want prevents the yo yo diet thing.

its something i wish i learned earlier.

eat like you want to live and a diet is effortless.
