Feel guilty when I eat

Quote  |  Reply

It's probably bad for me to say but for breakfast i'll have a banana or a yogurt(80calories) and then I won't really eat again until dinner when I have a light supper, usually rice and very little meat and no sauce or anything. I know it's not the best way to lose weight and for a few days my stomach was growling a lot but once i just got over it i was okay. i will have some little treats in between like a little piece of chocolate or something. I know it's really bad to say but I just feel guilty if my stomach is full and that never has happened to me before. My highest weight was 170 last summer and just over this school year I got down to 145 just by eating three meals a day and nothing past 9 but then i was stuck at 145 for about 4 months. Since i started not really eating that much i've lost 5 pounds and I want to get down to 130 by September. I was a size 16 now i'm a 8-9(depending on the store). Is there anyone else in the same situation as me?

No.  You really need to eat.  Why should you feel guilty about doing something that's necessary to stay alive?  You don't feel guilty about breathing, do you?

Of course there are other people in this situation. And you and those other people are doing horrible, unnecessary damage to your bodies. Food is not just for pleasure, it is a source of energy and nutrition, absolutely essential for good health, good mood, oh, and living, too. Therefore, if you intend to stay alive, input your stats and up your calories pronto! I say this from experience, you will just end up gaining it all back (and perhaps more) when you resume normal eating habits. That, or you will end up dead or in rehab. Take your pick! Or, instead, stop this insanity now and either start eating properly on your own, or seek professional help if you encounter trouble. There is no sense in suffering for nothing!

I agree with the first person that posted. You do need to eat. I however completely understand the guilty feeling when it comes to eating. When you stay on this site long enough you can learn some great tips for losing and maintaining your goal weight.  But this site can also make you feel like you are a bad person for over doing it. But since you are clearly underdoing it. I encourage you to find a balance and try not to beat yourself up about anything.

what are you looking for in posting this? advice? EAT!! you are consuming probably 500 cals a day based on what you've posted and this is starvation!! you're killing yourself and setting yourself up to store tons of fat once you realize that this is not sustainable or healthy. it is best to go about this in a reasonable fashion, slow and steady. you don't say how tall you are but if you're at least 5'5 you're not even considered overweight so to take such extreme measures is absurd and incredibly unhealthy. it would be unhealthy for anyone, but being that 5'5 and over would make 145 a healthy weight, these attempts would be incredibly unfounded since the need to lose would be virtually nonexistent while the damage is substantial. please eat and try to overcome these irrational thoughts, you won't regret it!!

i understand feeling guilty after eating, i almost always used to but i'm getting better about it. the thing is the less you eat, the less your body can eat if that makes any sense. not only do you start feeling less hungry like you described, but your body is learning to slow down the metabolism and hold on to every last calorie, which will be bad when you eventually up your calories again because you might gain weight on what a normal person who has not starved their body can eat to maintain or even lose. it took me a long time to actually be ok with this concept too so you are not alone! but honestly, its much better to feed yourself and do it the healthy way for long lasting, healthy results. you will also lose more muscle doing it your way, leaving you flabby and untoned, which is not overly desirable. i used to only eat breakfast and dinner too when i wanted to lose, although i did eat more than you at dinner and sometimes breakfast, and although i would lose the weight quickly, i usually gained in back in a month or two. now that i do things hte right way, it is much easier to maintain my goal weight, i eat all the time! which is so much more fun than not eating! good luck, maybe just try to eat healthier throughout the day if you want to lose, that is always my goal!

I am so sorry to hear that you are hurting. It seems to me like you are making things really hard for yourself. You need to eat more healthy food. Look for things that are healthy for you, like fruits and vegetables. You can keep your calories down and eat a lot of food. You need to give yourself a break! It is ok to mess up with food every now and then. It happens to everyone.

On another note, as a follower of Jesus Christ, I try to focus on Romans 5:8, "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." I don't mean this to say that eating food is a sin. No way but that Jesus loves me and you unconditionally! Praise God for that. I mess up in a lot of ways but as a believer I kow that Jesus loves me and forgives me. There is hope in Him. I don't know if you know Jesus as your savior but if you have a few minutes you can pray and talk to him or you can check out the Bible online. Sometimes we need our hearts chaged first.

I wish you all the best and I will say a prayer for you.

I don't think this helpful at all.  Reading this I get the feeling you want the OP to pray for forgiveness.  She's not guilty of anything and doesn't need to be forgiven for eating, she needs to eat more and not be unhappy about it.

Sorry for my mini rant OP.  Best wishes to you.
