I feel like a commercial...

Quote  |  Reply

I know you have all seen the commercial...  We give up soda, he loses inches, my legs get skinnier.

Now I will admit, that he started in significantly better shape than me.  We started working out January 1.  I have dropped about 15 lbs and have plateaued on the scale for the last month or so.  I have been building muscle and reducing fat according to one of those fancy scales at the gym, but it's frustrating.

He is now falling out of his 32x34 pants while I am still trying to fit into the next lower pants size!  I do realize that I am losing weight, I am doing it in a healthy way and I am coming along.  But does anyone else feel frustrated like I do?  He forgets to eat.  I have never in my life forgotten to eat.

I know how you feel.  I run on a regular basis, my husband sits on the sofa on a regular basis.  But, he can join me on a 5k run, and do just as well as me!  How?  Without any consistent working out???  It drives me crazy!  I am a little on the competitive side, so that makes it worse.  (Ok, a lot...)

We are having a little friendly weight loss semi-competition, and he is kicking my butt! I guess for him 1 lb is a smaller percentage of his overall body weight, so it makes sense that it would be easier for him to lose 1 lb... but still...!

GRR I feel you on this one, we have mother nature to thank. It really does make sense when you think how men and woman were created in the beginning, women are made to bear children thus store extra fat. Men on the other hand are designed to be in better shape to kill the antelope lol.

I wanna kill the antelope though! :::stomps feet and huffs off:::

ahaha. Yea I know your pain. I bust my but strength training and cardio training for months at a time I get 10 lbs off. Give my b'f 2-3 non consecutive days of Tree cutting and climbing and he becomes super buff and his belly is dissappearing quicker than mine (which is pretty much gone on me but still!)

Make your competition % of weight lost vs just the weight.  Even out the playing field a little bit.

People who "forget" to eat seem VERY ODD to me! ha ha ha!! When I am hungry, FOOD IS ON THE BRAIN for sure! What you should do is try really hard NOT to compare yourself with him. Focus solely on all your hard work and your new arm definition! Think about your health! I know your annoyed but as you know men & women are COMPLETELY different... and men like curves!

the percentage thing might work if he was really overweight. A size 32 isn't that big for a guy- I don't think?.... I believe that is what my bf wears; and hes lean- and by the way he eats WHATEVER HE WANTS!

i know exactly how you feel.  you are not alone.  how do they "forget to eat"?  that just never makes sense to me, but i just try not to hate.  haha.

Ugh I feel your pain! I'm the super competitive one in the relationship, so last year, when we first started dating, I posed a "6-pack challenge" to get us both off our butts and working out. 4 weeks later, his beer belly was gone, and he had a healthy 4-pack going. Took me 4 months to get the 4 pack, even though I never HAD a belly to begin with. Nowadays, he can skip the gym for weeks while partying and eating like a madman, go back to the gym for a few days and look ripped. He also is falling out of his pants, and I've been stuck at a Size 4/5 for months. The thing that annoys me the most is when he comments on it- "Ohhh, look who has the 6 pack- wait- where are yours again? Oh- you've got 2 cute little ones!"Seriously? Are you trying to give me an exercise disorder? Haha- I need to work on the competitiveness thing, I think!

Honey, you just can't compare the two.  My fella has always been way more fit than I.  I start cooking healthier meals, and he loses 12 lbs without even trying or exercising!  But you know what, that's ok with me.  We aren't in a race, after all.  And I know that my healthy choices are making him healthier too.  So hopefully we will have a long healthy life together.  One where I always have to make more effort than him, but that's just the way life is.

I know that I have to try harder than some other folks in order to lose weight and be healthy, and I'm fine with that.  So what I have to work harder?  I'll end up being healthier and happier than most folks when all is said and done.  So I win either way.  Here's some statistics that might make you feel less like a commercial.  I pulled them from a variety of sources, for a post on another group.

Here’s something else I like to remind myself every once in a while.  There are days when all of us feel sorry for ourselves.  Change is difficult, do-able but difficult.  Changing to a healthier life style and losing weight can be a long journey, filled with changes that we have to continue for the rest of our lives.  Some days it seems too much.  Some days it seems unfair.  Some days you’ll find yourself thinking, “why do I have to put so much work into this while “normal” people can just do what they want?”

Now, there are some magical people in the world who really can be lazy, eat whatever crap they want, and not gain weight.  But those people are rare, very rare indeed.

Let’s take a look at all those “normal” people that we find ourselves envying when we are having a rough day.

65% of Americans are overweight.  That’s a 2005 statistic.  Several sources suggested that this number might rise as high as 73% by 2008.  That’s nearly 3 in 4 people overweight in America.

Almost 30% of Americans are clinically obese.

24 million Americans have type 2 diabetes.  An avoidable condition.

1 out of ever 2.8 deaths in America is from a form of heart disease, despite the many methods known to radically reduce one’s risk with healthy diet and daily exercise.

Only 32% of Americans exercise daily.  Only 24% eat at least 5 servings of vegetables and fruit a day.  Only 14% of Americans do both.

86% of Americans do not get enough fiber in their diet.

75% of Americans do not drink enough water.

The average American eats the equivalent of 30-40 teaspoons of sugar a day.

The average American eats up to 55% of their meals from fast food.

The average American gets 45% of their daily calories from fat.

Most Americans don’t get a healthy amount of sleep, and 25% of Americans are taking some sort of sleeping aid.

So take a good look at those “normal” people that we all sometimes envy.  That normal person is overweight, tired, unhealthy, and has a really good chance of getting type 2 diabetes and of dying of a heart problem.  There’s nothing to envy about that.  So feel proud of yourselves!  Yes, a lot of work and will goes into getting healthy, but you are doing something that most Americans are not, and they should be!  I don’t know about you guys, but I read those statistics and I have no desire to be “normal” anymore!

Oh I feel this one too!  My husband got a gym membership for his birthday so watching him get that body back drives me nuts since I can't compete.  Trying to find inexpensive home equipment or just save for my own membership since it's a real bore hitting the elliptical when the weather is this awful.

Those statistics are pretty interesting and scary at the same time.  I'm kinda happy I'm not "normal" in most regard looking at them.
