I feel like I don't exercise enough?

How long should I exercise for daily?

I just finished Leslie Sansone's 3-mile walk which took about 40 minutes. I have been doing the 4-mile one but I got really annoyed with it because it became to predictable. I really liked the 3-mile one though...the moves were different and she really motivated me. Are these enough exercise?I can't go to a gym and I find it too embarrassing to run outside. :( I've lost about 25 pounds over the summer just by walking but I started doing Leslie Sansone DVDS because they are harder.

too lose weight. apparently i  gained six pounds over the long weekend.

I doubt you consumed 21,000 extra calories more than you burned in one weekend - it's most likely water weight, esp. if you had some salty foods or alcohol.

Losing weight is a function of how much you eat vs burn. If you eat more, you have to burn more to keep losing weight.

You don't need to do any exercise to lose weight, so any exercise you do is more than enough.

I'm going to go ahead and make the obvious response to floggingsully's comment: Exercise is an absolutely essential part of any healthy lifestyle, and is especially important for those trying to lose weight. It's true that you can lose weight without it, but "any is more than enough" isn't really true.

As for what you're doing: it's plenty and if you enjoy it, right on! If you feel like you need to do more, go ahead and throw in some strength training. I know that I'm totally digging the ridiculous burn in my quads right now from the squats I was doing earlier. There are plenty of moves that you can do right at home without any extra equipment. Push-ups, squats, lunges. And strength training really does wonders for burning fat.

If you have the time, try exercising multiple times a day. If you do your walk in the morning for example, do your walk again at lunch or early evening. Or mix it up, do your walk in the morning, and maybe do some calisthenics in the evening at home like free standing squats, push ups, crunches, jumping jacks, step ups, lunges, etc.

I agree 100%. If one has a desk job and only gets active for an hour or so of exercising once a day, it just seems weird/bad to me. I like having squadron PT in the AM, then hit the gym in the PM. Additionally, I do(and sometimes w/ others) 20-25 pushups every hour during the workday.

Sitting for nearly 8hrs and then doing vigorous exercise, IMO, is asking for injury.

That is the thing, I dont have much time. I wake up at 4 to leave the house at 5. I get home around 2 and and i get hours of homework plus studying a night . i can barley make the the time to do the DVD. sometimes i have to choose that over studying.

Recovery is just as important as exercise. Personally, I like using the 2 days on and 1 day off formula. Example - Mon (Lift/HIIT) Tues (Cardio) Wed (off) Thurs (Lift/HIIT) Fri (Cardio) Sat (Off), etc.. By taking multiple days off per week, I am able to have more energy available and more enthusiasm as well. Sometimes I have the urge to workout every single day. I am always doing research online to find new ways of training myself and when I find a routine that interests me I wanted to try it out right away. However, I make sure that I take the days off because in the end it is about the quality of workouts more than the quantity of workouts.
